Wal-Mart has 6 packs of CFL for $10. Think it's GE 13W(=40w) or so. They're a lot brighter than you might think. 13w is plenty to light a normal size room.

They take awhile to reach full brightness, which is slightly annoying at times.

Yeah, my bad... I forgot to add that each of us will be credited with reversing global warming. Oh wait, nm... global warming is cyclical.

a) while there may be a cyclical component, human activity is vastly impacting what's going on.

b) REGARDLESS of global warming, isn't creating less pollution and helping the environment a good thing? Better air to breathe, water to drink, etc. I fail to see how everyone contributing to making this world a better place to live is in any way a Bad Thing.
