Well, it's been decided! We're going to DC, and anywhere else along the way or nearby. I could use suggestions for highways/landmarks along the way or nearby if you guys know any. I'd like to take the scenic routes wherever possible.

Awesome. There is plenty of stuff to do for you are your son. Keep in mind, if you feel like going out at night to drink and dance (which you probably aren't considering you are going with your son) you have to go to Georgetown or Adams Morgan.

Naaa man. There is so much to do in Vegas, that does not cost all that much money. You just have to know where to look.

Ill be leaving for Vegas in 2 weeks!

Have fun in DC Araby. Ive always wanted to go there, but i have never had the opportunity yet. Im jealous.

Key West is a bit different. :)

Give me a day or something and where you all want to go. Not sure how far away Gaazy is, I'd like to meet him too. I think Liquidstayce is still in Baltimore (only a 15 min drive for her) if you wanna get in touch with her also. Other than that, not many people around here, maybe Evermore in Philly not sure.

I guess you're idea of "so much to do" and my idea of "so much to do" are different.

Sure you can watch the pirates show and the Bellagio water show for free. There are some cheap buffets that are awesome. There are some pool areas to sit at and drink margaritas...but the best clubs have lines that are a block long. You can pay $100 to get to the front of the line, then another $100 to get into the club, then spend 15-20 per drink when you are inside. And if it sucks, you leave and go through the $200 to get in to another place all over again.

And if you want to gamble, it can get pretty expensive (if you're losing). A good meal between multiple people costs 300+ with a bottle of wine and a decent hotel on the weekend can charge at least 300+ per night. I'm not talking about the Riviera, I'm talking about a decent hotel.

So that's why my formula is $1,000 a day. As a young person, If you're going to cheap out, you're not getting the full experience. Why even bother when there less expensive locations to go to where you can GET the full experience on a smaller budget.

PS: Make sure you do some research before you start driving through DC. You don't want to go through the ghettos especially with your kid.

I'm going to have to save the partying at night for my trip to the West Coast (sans the little guy) and stick to the family-oriented fun this time.

taxx all of that sounds good-smithsonian and the imax Tyler has been to, but of course I haven't and he says "it's awesome" so let's do it. I say we meet up with anybody that wants to (stacy, gaazy, evermore..whomever!) I don't know what your schedule is like that week, or if it is possible for you to get away unless it is the weekend...so you let me know what your flexibility is and we'll work around that.

okay..no more Vegas talk...give me some DC ideas! (restaurants, bed and breakfast, sites to see, etc)

some places I may be visiting

Pine Creek, Penn
Lancaster County
Baltimore
Gettysburg
DC
Philadelphia

thinking of seeing amish country and clothes lines...my roommate has family/friends in these places and we're going to work out some of this trip together-she is going up there at the same time and will be taking the train back down on the fourth. her parents own a cabin in Pine Creek that I can stay in also.

I know...this is definitely a trip I'll be taking this year, probably December. I need longer than a week to get to the West Coast and I have a longer vacation at the end of the year.

this may sound selfish but I would rather visit San Fran/San Diego by myself or with friends as opposed to with my son.

Itd be cool to work somethin out. I 'shouldnt' have to work much that week because its the coal industries 'miner's vacation', so there wont be too much to do. Would be kick ass to work something out!

Other than your friend in Lancaster I can assure you that you're not missing anything. If you want to see some fields I can show you fields and farm field. Gettysburg in the middle of summer might suck too unless you're really into the Civil War. If you're going to go there, hire a tour guide or you will get bored. Gettysburg is only a 20 min drive for me though so that would be a lot less driving (and probably for Gaazy too if he ever reads this).
