No, I dont have it backwards. The cliche is 'there are no atheists in a foxhole.' That cliche is bullshit. I just provided one example.

What you said is that this guy was trapped and instead of praying and giving himself up to 'God' that he fixed his situation himself. You were implying that any believer would basically lie down and wait for help and I took exception to that.

Now, if you had said:

Trapped in a chasm, his leg shattered, no way out, no food, no water, Joe Simpson came to the conclusion that there was no God and he only had himself to rely upon.

I wouldn't have cared. It was the way you characterized people that believed in God and not the foxhole thing I was referring to.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

Sorry, its the way 'he' characterized it. BTW, its not an actor. Watch the movie. Its Joe Simpson himself. He was an atheist before this event. He didnt become one in the crevasse.

And he didnt all of a sudden start praying for a miracle because he was in a bad situation.

For the 3 people that voted for "Purgatory" I would like to ask why they believe in a Purgatory. Where in the Bible does it talk about it?

I think it's comments that state your opinion so matter-of-fact is why you're immediately thrown into the category of thinking you *know* so quickly.

Maybe they believe in that and not the Bible? Or aren't taking the Bible literally and that option sounds the closest to what they think?

Quick summary of collective soul thing, it is not an overmind. We all part of it but persona that you are is more part of physical body that a soul.

Anyway here it is:

God = Light

When you see a person basicaly it is reflection of that light, a part of it. The world with all people it it is just a giant disco ball with millions of mirrors reflecting the light. When one mirror breaks, the light it was reflecting is not gone, just the mirror.

To touch on what Lyion mentioned as heaven and hell:
Realising what you are means going to rejoin God as part of collective soul/light = Heaven
Seing yourself for what you were in your life, and being shamed by it might make you hang around, because looking up at the light makes your own bad deeds in life seem worse. So you hang around looking away from the light, into darkness, punishing yourself as no one else can, untill you can forgive yourself and rejoin the light = Hell
גם זה יעבור

I put will in bold because I believe it to be a key factor in your wording that leads people to believe that you talk about God as fact and not faith.

As far as after death, I have no idea. I'd like to believe in a heaven and hell, I'd also like to believe Zeus really existed and that Aphrodite was born out of a severed penis that spewed into the sea.. but just like the Greek gods (which is known to be mythology) there's simply no way to prove that the 2 exist. I doubt most of those who believe in purgatory relate it to the bible at all.. if they were to base their after death beliefs on the bible, it would seem more sensible to go the heaven and hell route.

Ahh..see, the review I read said he had struggled until that point with did he believe or not and it took 2 seconds in that crevasse to realize he didn't.

Well, you your belief in my "key factor" is incorrect. Maybe from now on I should insert a "Imo" in front of every sentence I type about Christianity and/or religion in general to eliminate the confusion on your part. Better yet, just imagine that there's an "IMO" in front every post I make about Christianity and/or Religion.... mkay?

I didn't say it was your key factor, I said it was *a* key factor. I was simply pointing out why people tend to classify you as someone who tries to portray all of their opinion as fact.

Because words are echoes and not actions. Because those who are last will be first.

People are judged on their actions and their life. Some who proclaim holiness are as far from the divine as possible, and merely exist in their bubble of superficial beliefs. The truth will be known.

Judgement is based on life. Not on the utterance of misquoted words in a 'personal' act that is based around an individual.

When one understands it isn't about 'me', then one has a chance at redemption.

I've never proclaimed myself as being "holy." I leave that kind of arrogance up to the Pope.

You know nothing about my life Lyion. You only know what I want you to know. You judge people just as much as anybody else here.

I go to church every weekend and worship my Lord, Jesus Christ. I am very friendly and helpful to everybody I run into. I follow the life of Christ as best I know how. Yes, I do falter... I'm human. But I get right back up again and keep trying to do the right thing. Yes, I'm very opinionated, and yes, I have very strong religious and political beliefs... but the difference between me and a whole lot of other people is that I actually did research, and have formulated my opinions and thoughts based on that research... not just because of some kind of philosophy or dogma that I was raised with. I was able to step out and look from the outside in. Now I'm in, and I have strong beliefs.

I think other people should take a deep look at their practices and belief systems and ask themselves, "Why do I engage in these activities?" and "Why do I think this way about these things?" Too many people are arrogant and egotistical about their beliefs and they would never engage in objective thinking because of it. They listen to news programs or news analysis talk shows with their favorite hosts because those hosts merely echo and reinforce what their thought processes are, and that's what they want to hear.

Step outside of the box. Be objective. Learn. Research. Learn. Then formulate your opinion.

If you want to learn about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit... read the Bible, not dogma or doctrine associated with your particular faith. And read a Bible that hasn't been added-to by a particular faith who has an agenda, i.e. the books of the Apocyrypha, etc. I suggest reading the NIV or NKJV.

Research and false words are no substitute for true faith. For someone who strives for divinity, your representation here makes me curious what exactly have you accomplished?

The way you represent yourself here speaks in volumes. For your supposed 'strong beliefs' you have anger and do damage to religion with the way you present yourself. I'd wager that anger exists in your real life as well.

Again you always point the finger away from yourself. I imagine that's the story of your life. Someday you'll look in the mirror and 'get it'. Or not.

Anyways, I'm sure your 'knowledge' in your small church with its dissected bible and badly translated words equates you to knowing more than Franciscans or Jesuits.. But I seriously doubt it

Learn some Latin. Try and understand deeper things than the simplistic wrong interpretation of your English King James Bible, with many books removed because the Protestant forebears didn't 'like' them.

I suggest you look into the fallacy of 'Born Again', and realise it is not what was written. But you would know that if you had researched. I doubt you have. I'll wager you were just another fundamentalist who stares at the sun because it obviously shines on you. Unfortunately that bright light has blinded you from the truth and probably will cost you your soul.

LOL I expected that kind of reaction from someone raised in Catholicism. Martin Luther removed those books from the Bible not because he didn't like them (I actually think "Bel and the Dragon" was quite amusing) but simply because they didn't belong there. They were added into the original books.

You can be rest-assured that upon the second coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ, these words will be spoken to me by our Heavenly Father, "Well done, my good and faithful servant... enter into the house and glory of the Lord."

I place my faith in the Bible, not doctrine. You should do the same. There is a greater chance of you costing yourself your soul, than me. You might want to stop squeezing your eyes shut, and slapping your ears while yelling "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA" ignoring truth because of your egotistical attitude.
