spring break at wal-mart

Postby leah » Mon Mar 27, 2006 1:58 pm

so my friend skyler decided to try to live at wal-mart for the duration of his spring break. he made it about 41 hours before they caught on to him.

he is now a media sensation!

not only the des moines paper, but he has also been contacted by letterman, has an interview scheduled with msnbc, and good morning america wants him sometime this week.

i'm so proud :)

If he had given birth to a baby there, Natalie Portman would have portray him in a movie.

That's pretty interesting... however they made it sound in the article like he was in there for weeks on end.

When he wanted to get his hair washed, he made an appointment at the Wal-Mart hair salon.

He found it strange the way the same two guys kept showing up in the middle of the night to buy movies.

You said 41 hours, which is a little less than 2 full days.. the article said 3 days, but statements like those made it sound like a lot longer.

Still neat though :) I hope he gets all those interviews.

i hope so too... i'm really excited for him.

he wants to use the experience to write a book. no political agenda--just doing it for the experience.

i'll let y'all know if/when he'll be on good morning america.

also ginz thank you for being a douche.

Haha, that WalMart is 2 miles away from me.

Congrats to your friend, and condolences on his Spring Break.

I guess there is nothing better to do in Nebraska than camp out at Wal-Mart for multiple days. I'm sure the book will be a best seller.

ginz can be elitist because he makes shitty internet movies

back to the subject at hand, the whole bartels family is pretty remarkable imho

the med-student brother mentioned at the tail end of the article was in my band back in the day, he can shred like vai... his dad is head RN at the hastings hospital and drives a huge minivan with license plates that say SLVR SFR (silver surfer) and plays in a local big band

really though, if you'd ever met the brothers bartels (or their dad, for that matter) you'd love 'em.

one thing that makes me giggle about them is that at one point, all three boys have had reeeally long hair... pete cut his a couple years ago, skyler cut his last year a few days (weeks?) before we started dating, and zak's is still super-long. i think the haircut is a coming-of-age thing for them hehe

they had a sister, too, but she died suddenly while she was away at college. that family has been through a lot... they're one of the most closely-knit families i've ever had the pleasure of encountering. they're WoW nerds, musicians, and great minds. peter will soon be a doctor, skyler is a very talented writer, and zak has amazing acting abilities. i admire all of them, and would've been happy to be part of that family had things worked out for skyler and i.

<3 bartels family ^_^

That sounds very familiar to me for some reason. Was that in a movie too or something?

i believe in the nickelodeon cartoon "doug," skeeter's comic book character (complementary to quail-man) was named the silver surfer... i could be wrong.
