Please be nice.. I just wanted to get everything off my chest and let a few people know where I've been.

A few weeks ago, we learned that fees for immigration were going up on the 30th.. this was when the hustle started - we had to get Jono's medical done and gather all required documentation for his immigration. We also had to hire a lawyer to ensure everything was filed properly. The deadline hustle is very stressful; any immigration is stressful, but getting it together quickly was that much more painful.

Once we had everything together, we had an appointment with the lawyer last monday. On the way to the lawyer.. my sister calls me. My grandma, who we were all very close to, passed away monday morning. I almost crashed the car - had I known that was the phone call I was getting, I probably wouldn't have answered the phone at all while driving, speaker phone or not. Some of you on my myspace might have already read about this stuff - for those who aren't, my grandma has had alzheimers for 10 or so years; while she's been mentally gone for a while, officially losing her is killer. My gramma was something else.

Once we get to the lawyer, we find out that it's going to be $3500 in lawyer fees to file. We're young and definitely not rich, not the type of thing you want to hear when your day is already going a little rough.

For the next couple days, I get a horrendous head cold and stomach problems out the wazoo.. meanwhile, I'm trying to assist my mom with funeral preparation the best I can do from 700 miles away. At this point I just don't know what else can happen..

as some of you know, we adopted a kitty from the shelter a while ago who we grew very attached to very quickly - he's our baby in every sense of the word, wears a little bow tie and is always with us - he even plays poker a bit, guards his hand pretty well. Anyway.. on Thursday, Jonathan contacts me at work to let me know that he's acting funny, his eyes are glazed over and his heart is beating kind of fast. I ask him to look around the house and make sure he hasnt' gotten into anything that could've hurt him, nothing - with me taking off for gramma's funeral I can't afford to take off more time to run home and check on my cat. I was off in an hour anyway, so I just asked him to sit tight til I could get home and take him to the vet. I get home, and he's almost immobile.. sitting in the corner in a little kitty loaf and acting very strange, his head pointed directly upward and when I decide yes, it's definitely time to take him to the vet and pick him up he wheezes and can't catch his breath. We get him to the cat hospital and he's put on oxygen to catch his breath - we ask the vet if he's in any pain, she says he has no idea what's going on and she's not seen anything like this before and that she's going to do some tests - tests which will cost 1300. Now, a lot of you who don't have pets can't understand why we would even consider spending this sort of money when we don't have it; we got this cat from the shelter to save his life, not just abandon him at the first sign of illness. We make sure that he's not in any pain whatsoever because that's not what we want and we ask if he has a chance - she said if he can get out of oxygen we can pinpoint what's going on neurologically, and she goes ahead with the tests.

The next morning we have to go check on him and see where we want to go from there- good news, he's out of oxygen and breathing fine on his own, neurologically he just isn't there still, and they aren't sure what it is, but he's showing physical signs of improvement and thats the minimum that we wanted. He's still not in any pain.. he tried to walk to me and stumbled in my arms, but his eyes are still glazed over and we're just praying that they're going to see some improvement - we can't stay because we have a funeral to get to 10 hours away and we need to start the drive - we leave him in the vets care and give the number and ask them to call at any sign of change. I guess about midnight I got a phone call but I was asleep because I had to be up in the morning to be at the funeral home - I got the message in the morning and call the doctor back, and he told me that Blue suddenly went into respiratory arrest and died after all the improvement he made.

There was nothing he could've gotten into in the house, we looked over and over.. he wasn't sick before, never has he been sick.. just all the sudden he's fine one day and a day later he's gone. Again, for those of you who can't understand the closeness people get to their pets, kindly keep out of the thread with your snide comments.

We went to the funeral after that.. and you can imagine how that went. We got home and the lawyer when asking for funds disclosed a detail that was confidential which is bound to cause a huge uproar here soon

Anyway.. that's where I've been.

they say trouble comes in waves of 3. SO the bright side is that should be the end of any bad news.
I hope all turns out ok with the immigration. Keep your chin up.

ah, that's what my boss said ziek.. but it was my gramma, then the lawyer, then sick, then my female visitor, then my boss said it comes in waves of 3, then Jono called about the kitty, then yesterday is when we found out about the lawyer telling family stuff they weren't supposed to know (we expect it to be a bit of a bomb.)

man, I hate to be on some woe is me kick because I can't stand when people do that and make mountains out of molehills.. I'm just trying to stay positive as I can and pray it's over soon.

For the record, though - I think everyone needs to have a baby at a funeral. My niece (11 months old) wouldn't stop talking her babytalk throughout the whole service - it was nice comic relief.

I'm so sorry for all your troubles Gyps. There is a very real reason for the saying "When it rains, it pours". It really sucks how everything seems to happen at once and just cascade.

As far as the vet goes, I don't know if you're still responsible for the bills, but if you are, ask your vet about a pet care credit card. When our elkhound tore her ACL we were told that the surgery would cost about $1,400. With the credit card it's interest free for a year, so we were able to make monthly payments to get it taken care of.

Take a deep breath and take everything one step at a time. It's rough, but you'll get through it :)

Well, that's the only way we were able to do it was through care credit. Otherwise he wouldn't have even gotten the diagnostics - the 1300 was just for those, and the oxygen and IV he was on for the time he was there on the first night. We have no idea how much it will be total.

As far as I know, we are still responsible for all the bills. The vet has never used care credit and has no idea how to use it, though.. so we're waiting for them to figure it all out. I've used care credit and know exactly how to figure it out (we provided it at the weight loss clinic i worked at) but right now with everything, I'm not going to be providing heaps of information on how to get more money out of me until I have to.

Have to take care of car registration by next week too (all new registration and license, I still have my WI tags).. so there's another 250 down the tubes ><

First off. sorry about all the shit. One thing I have learned is sometimes your the cat, and some times your the litterbox.

so did the quack tell you what was wrong with him? 1300.00 should tell you if he is the reincarnation of Elvis.

I would get the diagnosis from him regardless. For 1300 I want a paper even after the cat died. It could tell you what he got into, and whether or not it is something to be concerned about...water, small gas leak at low level, radon emissions etc etc

That's the thing - the vet couldn't figure out what was wrong at all. They had tons of years of experience between all of them and none of them had ever seen anything like it. He was completely fine Wednesday, there was nothing he could've gotten into; we looked all over the house, there was nothing... they said that their best guess is a blood clot or a tumor, but that a tumor wasn't likely because with tumors it usually shows up on one side of the body only, and he was completely even bodied. Their best guess is a clot.

Being as we adopted him we don't know his prior history. All we know is how he was when we got him, and that he appeared to be in perfect health.

Our house is pretty clean, and he was an inside cat.. he never went outside. the space he can get to is pretty limited; house isn't big at all. I really don't think it could've been anything he got into - we didn't keep any poison for bugs or anything in the house, there was nothing in the cabinets.. nothing out of the ordinary that he couldn't have gotten to the day before or any other day, really.

He was a bit of a fatty at 18 pounds almost - there's nowhere he could've gotten that the pomeranian wouldn't have gotten to first

At my grandpa's funeral I was 3 and I wouldn't stop laughing at my grandpa's face in the casket and not only that but I made my 4 year old cousin laugh with me and everyone in the room was sad and depressed and slowly losing their patience with us. The beginning of my inappropriate assholishness @@.

My stepfather in law just lost one of their dogs. They are spending tons of money and lots of time at the vets trying to figure out what happened. They should give me $50 and I can tell them what happened. He was 16 years old. It was his time. I hate my in laws, but I hate watching them throw away money even more. Especially since that's Matt's inheritance.
Either way, one dog down, 2 to go :asthanos:

On the bright side, things will always look better from this point out...

No matter what's happened to me since I got sick, I can always look back and say "At least I'm not dying anymore."

Hopefully life doesn't prove me wrong at your expense...

Yeah.. that's what I said right before I heard about my Blue.. then I decided to stop jinxing myself and started saying 'well it could always be worse' so I didn't think it was as bad as it could be, forcing it to get worse

Aside from the lawyer thing, it hasn't gotten too much worse. I thought it might for a little while yesterday when I started getting worried about my truck running too hot, then I realized it's been ages since I had an oil change and I was super low on coolant in the radiator.. and now I got those 2 done so it's not running hot anymore - I figure that situation could've been a lot worse, so maybe things are starting to look up.

Thanks for your support guys.. I appreciate it.
