I liked it when it came out but white people have ruined it for me.

My friend showed it to me in July and I thought it was funny but didn't really get it. Now it's starting to catch on in Nebraska and they even play it on the radio and it makes me want to die a little. People want me to play it at the wedding reception, no thanks!!!

It was hilarious at first.

Now it's a lot less so, but still tickles me now and then.

I still don't really know what it is. Is it supposed to be ironic bad, or is it supposed to be so bad its good or is it supposed to be catchy and good? I'm with Lyion. It's terrible and all parodies I've seen are equally terrible.

apparently it's social commentary on a lavish/extravagant lifestyle in korea? or something. i don't remember exactly, but it's bad on purpose, not unintentionally.

From what I've read, Gangnam is an area analogous to Beverly Hills. The video is intending to mock those being pretentious about being from there, by showing the main character, also ostensibly from there, going around behaving like a complete moron in easily recognizable locations from that area. The guy in the bright yellow outfit and the guy doing hip thrusts in the elevator are apparently well-known TV personalities in South Korea as well.

I dunno, it's pretty inoffensive, and it hasn't reached annoyance levels for me of "MUST KILL!" like some other songs have. I will certainly agree it's pretty bad, though. Of course, it doesn't come close to dethroning the all time King and Champions of bad songs.

This now, is that song. I give you: Gunther, with his butt-dimple chin in all its glory.

So get a satellite radio receiver, and never have to listen to crappy local radio again. $50-250 for a receiver, depending on how fancy you want to get, and $15 a month after that. Or get an internet subscription, listen on any PC hooked to the web for $15/month. I haven't listened to non-news local radio in probably a decade.

Speaking of records, a local institution in vinyl is closing soon.

I agree with Drem. I've stopped piling up a massive MP3 collection for some time now because of Spotify.

I pay the $9.99 a month to get it on my phone, too. Great for running.

What? Paying for music? Inconceivable! I thought just buying a t-shirt or going to a show now and then was all the compensation the music industry deserved?

i pay for spotify premium, too, but have yet to use it on my phone. what's the data usage like? i'd love to plug it into my auxiliary jack in my car and listen to my playlists but when i signed my new verizon contract this month i got booted off my unlimited data plan (ARGH) so now i have to budget carefully...

I do it for my convenience, not theirs.

Fuck the music industry.

Leah, I manage the cell devices at work here and FWIW, people "think" they need unlimited but the truth is, nearly no one goes over 2GB and I've yet to see someone breach 5GB. You've got one of those two plans I assume.

I even had one guy, who was getting his living room redone, used his iPhone to stream media to his TV for almost 2 weeks. He DID go over 2GB but only about .5GB. At ~$10 per GB over, I wouldn't think you'd have to worry much.

Just sayin . . .

OK, thanks, that's super helpful. :boots:

it's not that i thought i needed unlimited, per se. it's just that it was nice to not ever have to worry about it. plus, it was still cheaper than the 2GB plan i'm on now. needless to say, i was really sad about not having my unlimited plan anymore, ha. it sucks to go from unlimited data for X dollars to the smallest amount for more money, you know? paying more for less is balls.

quit being a dumbass. spotify is like the proving grounds for whether or not i buy the LP. i'm not gonna drop $20 on something if i don't even know if it's worth it or not. i wouldn't know about half the music i listen to if it weren't for blogs, pandora, and spotify. and so i've purchased a lot of new LPs recently that i otherwise would've just went right past. i don't see how it hurts the "industry" in any way. they're getting people to think about bands they forgot about and to check out all sorts of great new music

and considering bands have to tour nonstop to make it anyway these days, and rely on ticket and merch sales to be able to put out new records, i don't really care how well their albums sell or if they get platinum as long as i get a copy of the ones i want :)
