Alone in Heaven

Postby Diekan » Mon Apr 18, 2005 2:53 am

I just finished watching one of my all time favorite movies, "What Dreams May Come." Although I've seen it several times (never get tired of it), tonight was different. I started to think about marriage in the after life and whether or not it exists.

I am kindly asking those of you who do not believe in an after life to please not turn this into another fight between believers and non-believers. There are plenty of other threads for such.

So, what do YOU think... when you die are you reunited with your spouse (should have been married by the church / pastor / whatever)? Or, do you believe once dead you will not know each other - or - will know each other but will no longer harbor any romantic feelings for her/him?

I'd like to think that, in fact, if you're marriage was "legit" on Earth (that is married under the rules of your religion then in fact you will be united again.

Unfortunately, I haven't found any scriptures that clearly indicate either or.

Now what I did find was this:

At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven - (Matt 22:30).

Now some may read that as meaning you will not be married in Heaven... however, I read it as you can't GET married when in the after life. The scripture seems to be speaking in future tense, not past. Which, would exclude those who were married BEFORE death.

If I put enough faith in a woman to get married, it will last through the afterlife as well.

I really and truly believe that marriage doesn't matter in the afterlife. I think that the love you had for that person while you were living will transcend into heaven with you. But I also don't believe there are houses in Heaven, I don't believe you sleep together, I don't believe you sleep period

What about if the woman made you miserable? Sounds more like hell to me. Unless, when you die, you lose all your suckholeness and become a (near) perfect person? Then I could see that but if everyone is near perfect, then everyone would be about the same so the only difference between people would be looks. So if you had a hot spouse, then great, if you had an average looking mate with a great personality, would they look better in heaven or would you get the short end of the stick? At what age would we be in Heaven? Would you be in shape if you died fat or the same?

More often than not it is your fault if you are miserable.

ps there is no afterlife, you die then you sinkn into the earth and become part of a river in which in the future a guy named cloud falls into and he will learn the truth their and defeat a guy trying to take over the world.

Personally I believe that Alzheimers & various other forms of senior dementia are indicators of what heaven would be like.

In most cases, those individuals seem to revert back to their late 20s, early 30s and they believe it is summertime perpetually. My great grandfather for example is completely out of it and leaves his condo every morning to "milk the cows and tinker on his tractor". This has become a difficult situation for my family as we found him wandering in the snow several times this past winter early in the morning.

I talked with my Ex who specializes doing social work for seniors living with dementia on numerous occassions and she informed me that most with Alzheimers revert back to their summer age of late 20s, early 30s.

My gramma is the same way, and it's also similar to what I've always believed - not necessarily the physical appearance, but the state of mind. When my gramma is having her bad days (as in her mind is completely out the window) she's almost completely euphoric - her mind wanders back to her younger days talking about squirrel hunting and farming with her dad, etc.. when she's having a better day and has some grasp on what's going on, she gets cranky and upset that something is wrong and she doesn't know what.

It makes you wonder what really is a "better day" for her. In terms of her disease better days would be those that she is of a clear state of mind, but it sounds the other way around to me.

It's sad, but we're a lot happier to see her on her "bad" days, for sure.

Interesting topic!

I'd like to believe that in Heaven, you call the shots (or bare with me here I'm not sure if this will make sense.. gonna use Everquest terms lol) I think Heaven might be sort of "instanced" meaning it'll be what you want it to be. If you truly enjoy sleeping (I know I do) then you can sleep whenever you want to even though your celestial self won't ever get tired. I believe the food in Heaven will be fantastic and perfect , even though you'll never feel hungry OR full. You don't poop in heaven either heh. No upset stomachs, no urinary tract infections lol. Get what I'm sayin'?

As far as love goes, there is no way that dies when you do as a human. When you've given yourself completely to someone, marriage or not, part of your soul becomes forever attached to them. Anyone who's ever been in love sort of knows what I'm talking about. If I die before my husband does, hopefully he'll know the love we have hasn't died, and will only become "physically long distanced".

Sex in Heaven : Sure why not, if it's something you loved to do.. God knows we humans love sex, so if he loves us, surely he'd allow it within limits. I would think it'd be for pleasure only, nothing raunchy, no pregnancies, no cumstains on your favorite sheets.. etc.

And what age do you revert back to in Heaven? Hmmm I think it'd be up to you if you wish to take a form at all. You don't feel achey or sore joints or any pain at all, so if you were most happy being an old person, go for it.. I'm only 25 so I have no idea what I'll be like years from now but I'd say I was happiest between 17-19 so far.

I also think that if you want to, you can visit your loved ones in their dreams any time they need you or you miss them too. After my husbands 15 yr old brother comitted suicide, about 2 weeks later I dreamt about him and it was very sweet. He hugged me and told me that "he knew we cared for him" "because he heard it and read it". It totally rocked and even if it was just my dream, it felt good to hear him say that. OH and the age thing again, in my dream he was about 10-13 years old, even though when he died he was 15 and had changed alot. I think maybe he was happiest in that age range! Why else would I have dreamt him to be that age but still in the present?

Anyway, I got longwinded there. I like this topic alot.

What happens to the people who fall in love, marry, and then 1 person dies?

the other person mourns for 5 years, moves on, falls in love again and remarries

does that dude get 2 wives in heaven?

That's a tough question. If you fall in love with somebody and are married for 40 years and then they die... and then if you fall in love again with somebody else and get married again and are married for 20 years and then they die... which spouse will you be with in heaven?

I think Heaven is full of love (and not on a sexual level, Ralf) and you love all spouses and children, and grandchildren, and the rest of the family.

Heaven is described as "perfect" and without pain, sorrow, sadness, hunger...etc. You never need anything in heaven. So, in my opinion, if it's there, and I go, I won't know anything but happiness no matter what the circumstances.
