Mini Vacation

Postby The Kizzy » Wed Jun 01, 2005 9:03 pm

I live in Cleveland, and I want to take my sons somewhere this summer that is within driving distance that they can both enjoy. Like a beach or something that we can do every summer and that they will enjoy, but isn't outrageously expensive. Any ideas? I've never really been on a vacation. Thanks.

oh and an amusement park is kind of out of the question. My 9 yr old probably won't enjoy riding the kiddie rides, and I dont think he is old enough to go off by himself or with a friend.

I go to those all the time. The point here is to take them away somewhere.

When you say driving distance, how far are you talking? How long do you plan to go for?

How about this, Kizz? It's more a water park than an amusement park.

6-7 hours would be the most I would drive. Geauga Lake is an amusement park, we used to go every year.

The Dells are insanely expensive. Might as well fly to Orlando and spend the weekend at Disney.

There has to be a place around there that has mini-golf and putt-putt cars and stuff like that around there.

Or are you talking about going camping, fishing, etc.

What kind of mini-vacation are you looking for? :)

I want to take 3-5 days pent up in a hotel room with a pool that I can take the kids somewhere interesting every day. A good zoo, a museum, putt putt. Something they will remember.

Something in New York.

Niagra Falls, Adirondak Mountains, Catskill Mountains, Jone's Beach.

Maybe something in Conneticut like Mystic Seaport and that big aquarium near there?

Maybe Chicago, even though I have no clue what I would do if I went there... probably nothing.

I'd look into finding a little house to rent for like $500 for the week, little more expensive than a hotel room, but it ends up being cheaper when you can cook in the kitchen and just buy groceries.

Cleveland Zoo (3000 animals)
Cleveland Children's Museum (fantastic place full of hands on activities for kids)
Cleveland Museum of Natural History (dinosaurs! wonder if they still have the butterflies....)
Rock n Roll Hall of Fame (:))
Great Lakes Science Center (OMNIIMAX)
Hale Farm & Village (1880's town)
Plus there are waterparks and putt putt all over. :)

Mystic Aquarium, lol. Went there when I was a kid every summer. Real nice aquarium, too.

They ruined the town by filming Mystic Pizza there, though...

Cape Cod has some nice whale watching trips. I'm sure your kids would love to have a whale blow shit out of that nasty smelling blowhole at them.

Cape Cod is also home to a large number of transexuals and cross dressers for some reason. Also lots of 6 toed cats...

Don't remember if they run the boats during the summer, though.

However, it has some great fucking seafood.

Also, I will say getting a couple bikes and riding around Nantucket was probably one of my favorite vacations ever.

or was it that other island over near there? I forget =\

I just remember a lighthouse around there and then driving up to MIT for a weekend stay at a frat house as part of my college visits.

Bring em to Canada, Kizzy. We need to teach them some proper socialist values.

Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard can both be fun for kids at that age.

If you like seafood, mini golf, go karts, arcades, parks, whale watches, fishing etc.

There is a water park near cape cod too, Water Wizz (or whiz or wiz...I forget) Your kids would love it I'd guess. (all old shit to me since I live here and within 30-1hr of it all for the most part my entire life)

Martha's Vineyard can be a lot of fun too, a pretty large arcade or two with nice restaurants. Beaches with some nice swimming. The people are all rich snobs, but F them you don't need to interact.

Kind of irrelevent since I think the coast is out of "driving range".
