EQ pwns WOW, huh? Funny, last I checked Blizzard hasn't been doing chain-rollbacks on people because of a Blizzard oversight. Seeing posts from people that all they did is bought a tradecraft item in the bazaar get rolled back on Wednesday out of the blue, then figured it was done, went out, got quests and zone flags done, only to find themselves RE-rolled back to an even earlier point than Wednesday. And all because SOE is too brainless to, you know, actually back up character files before patches, so they couldn't just reset everyone when they learned, 45 minutes after patch, that improper vendors were in game. Noooooo... they have to get people at random intervals, and multiple times, and sometimes they're getting all the characters on an entire account, even if they haven't even been played.

Oh yeah, EQ is Sooooo much better than WoW. Riiiiight. :umno:

Hey, have fun in EQ, enjoy your rollbacks! I am sure a weekend of double XP, which they managed to screw up TOO (isn't working for AAXP) more than makes up for people who did nothing wrong losing a week's worth of items and flags!

Face it, EQ was fun, once. But they have long since gone to the "8 monkeys on tyepewriters for 6 weeks" coding school for anything involving the game, and their management practices are by far and away the worst in the industry.

Well.. honestly, I enjoy WoW thoroughly - however, I've been rolled back due to server crashes 3 times already, and I've only been playing a month. Server instability has been terrible.

to be fair tho, there's been a lot of fucked up shit in wow too

WoW has a much bigger audience, but I still don't think it's half the game old EQ was, even though they attempted to copy everything in EQ

I logged on eq the other day and was floored. I could not believe how much EQ has changed in order to resemble wow. Numbered channels...toolbars..WTF?

EQ is dead, Warcraft is the current king and in 3-5 years some other game will replace it and so on and so forth. This thread resembles horseshit being thrown against a brick wall and smells about the same.

EQ had numbered channels before WoW was even in development, they just incorperated them slightly differently now.

Toolbars are hardly WoW specific.

WoW is still a game for kids and holds the same level of difficulty as Diablo 2 in a 3D environment.

I am a businessman and with 5.5 million subscribers you can safely call yourself king of the biz. You can split hairs all day about how RAD this game is or how awesome that game is but in the end it boils down to money and subscribers.

Keep jerking off over EQ's past, it is really the only fucking thing most of you have on your pathetic lifes resume.

EQ might have seemed better to ya'll (yes i said y'all) back in the day because that really was the first of its kind. your proverbal cherries were thusly broken.

had WoW been out the same time EQ was im sure it would have never made it past RoK.

having said that, WoW is 100000 times the game EQ ever was/will be.

and you can take that to the bank my Pedigree™ chums

WoW wouldn't have been out when EQ came out, so that's moot. If you think for half a second that WoW didn't take into account the mistakes made in EQ and/or the good things EQ did, you're sadly mistaken. That's the beauty of things being the second, third, fourth, fifth, whatever, of their kind - they learn from their predecessors.

As I said.. I thoroughly enjoy WoW; however, with the vast amounts of knowledge they had access to via past experiences with EQ, it has the potential to be a much better game than it is. EQ was a game that you always had something you could be doing.. WoW kind of holds your hand and guides you through everything - a monkey could play WoW. Granted, *now* a monkey could play EQ as well with all of the tutorials, but there's something to be said about the learning experience and levels of talent EQ granted back when you actually had to figure things out on your own.

Either way, I enjoy(ed) both games.. I think early EQ was better than WoW if you take into consideration the time periods, but if we're speaking about EQ now and WoW now, I think they're about even keel.

I'm not going to backpedal on this... The EQ rollbacks were a major MAJOR fuckup on their part...

That doesn't change the fact that Harri is dead on. WoW has tons of subscribers because it appeals to the hordes of children and teens out there. Kudos to them. None of that changes the fact that it is an oversimplified online RPG for kids.

As far as adult entertainment goes EQ is still king.

No. it is because these lifer motherfuckers can sit and play 20 hours a day with their guild butt-buddies and consider themselves an elite force in a virtual world. WoW does not afford them that luxury (at least to the extremes EQ did) so they hate it.

When something is made fun/obtainable to all, these folks like Taxx that jerk off to their magelos lose their magnificent virtual aura.

But...Taxx is a WOW guy, and EQ hater through and through... And tell me how obtainable PVP rewards are, please?

I've played a lot of WOW, but the community and simplicity of it that makes it so fun, also seems to appeal to the B.net crowd and antisocial kiddies. It has a lot of content but for me it was boring after a few months.

I'm not sure if EQ will be any better, but it has some neat gadgets right now and is fun. Grouping in EQ is fun again, and there's a lot of stuff to do.

Anyways, WOW is a different generational game. EQ is 6+ years old. It's better to compare it to EQ2, which is a somewhat new game, like WOW.

WOW is essentially the real EQ 2, since it was copied completely from EQ with some addendums and Warcraft Lore and streamlining. Saying WOW sucks or EQ sucks is a bit comical, because WOW is essentially EQ, simplified and with a lot of early things fixed that we hated, but many of us now look back and see were necessarily for keeping the world from becoming an Emo zone, like many WOW servers are.

The design document from WOW is 3/5 EQ, 1/5 DAOC and a dash of Diablo. It's nice, but trying to say its revolutionary or anything, like EQ, is a misnomer.

Unless one owns stock in Vivendi or Sony, I fail to grasp what's the big fucking deal with game dick waving. I don't, so I'll play whatever tickles my fancy for that day, be it WOW, EQ2, EQ, or Vanguard.
