Targeting and Assisting-

EQ2 targeting is still a bit confusing to me, especially playing a rogue...

I have been told there is an implied assist...

Assisting the puller is a pretty big deal so I can land my various backstab combat abilities in order to deliver the maximum damage...

Actually assisting during large pulls is tough... Here's why:

If I click on the puller's name in the upper left hand corner, I will change targets, and my character will shift in the direction of the puller's target. The problem is that all the mobs will be highlighted with their targeting circles.

Currently I have to actually watch the animation to see which of the mobs I should be attacking... If I am not PERFECTLY positioned I can't execute the backstab.

What makes this even more difficult is the weird circular movement present when I am engaged in combat.

1. Anyone got any ideas how to more easily assist on the pulls and actually pick out the correct target?

2. If I create an /assist macro do you find this to still be useful?


Combat Abilities and Heroic Opportunities-


1. Can someone explain the difference in the apprentice/adept/master upgrades? do you find them to be worth the money?

I do not understand Heroic Opportunities. Currently I execute "Lucky Strike" or whatever the initial move is called and I have about 4 options to execute the second portion of the HO... When I finally execute the 3rd portion I have two options to use.

Here are the questions: Does the combination or the different combinations determine the final outcome of the HO? So far I get two HO's off, one is called Ringing Blow, and the other is Swindler's Luck, which sucks. Is there a way to get Ringing Blow to go off every time?

The biggest thing I don't understand is the ability for any scout class to shift HO's to other group members...

Why would I want to do this? Can you give any practical examples of why I should shift HO's, and how should I coordinate with other scouts the shifting of HO's to them or me?

I really don't understand HO's.

If you target the MA you will automatically hit the mob they are hitting. I turned on see NPC health at all times instead of mouseover so I can see which one is getting the damage done to it and face it appropriately. Also, I turned off autoface mob and that stopped the circular effect you're having problems with.

Upgrade, upgrage, upgrade your skills/spells. The higher the level you have on them the more damage you do/take.

Scouts have the ability to cycle thru the available HO's. http://www.gnorrath.com/scoutHO.htm has some of the various HO's available listed. Didn't really look but maybe they explain things a little better.

The Prima book has some really good info if you feel like picking up a copy. It explains app/adept/master, HO's, racial traits, and every other confusing thing pretty clearly.

Yeah, turn the floating arrows for your target and you target's target up to max opacity. Then target the tank/ma/whatever and pretend you are playing COH. Don't assist them, any offensive move you make with them targetted will auto attack their target and you will stay locked on the tank. That way you will never be attacking the wrong thing and have a big glowing arrow showing you where it is.

Or you can open up the macros box and make an /assist macro just like in EQ1. But wityh group pulls if the tank switches targets and you gain aggro because you didn't notice because you don't have the tank targetted, you may get whined at.

Also, turn off auto face enemy. It is annoying and useless if you are not completely retarded. Then you will never walk funny and spin while in combat.

For HOs, you may want to shift them to trigger the group heal for example, or keep them on your ringing blow for more damage, or swindlers luck for the def bonus, or a nuke bonus for the wizard.

Just click that every now and then during the fight.

rock on good infoz... I will now be l337. That should clear up a lot of the confusion... that auto face enemy is ultra gay... I will be turning that off first thing.

There is an option to highlight the targeted mob. Look through the targeting options. I don't remember what it's called but in my case the mob (his model) lights up bright red when I target him. Sometimes it's still hard to determine which mob if there is a huge cluster. Maybe someone has a better idea though. ;)
