I'm broke like a mofo. I spend a lot of money everywhere. Me myself though, make Heavy and Thick armor kits, put them in AH, Heavy for 9s 80c or whatever, buyout at 20, (24 hours ofcourse), and Thick at 20/40 (24 hours).

I wake up to a crapload of Auction Successfulls everyday. It's a good feeling. :)

29 gold?

wtf?

That's poor?

Holy fucking shit... I HAVE to be doing something wrong here. Am I the only person that has ZERO downtime because I drink juice like it was going out of style? I don't roll on every fucking item that drops like some people... tailoring is expensive, but good lord... I'm 39 and I have 10g. My 40 spells are going to cost more than that. There is no way in hell I'll have a horse before I'm 50, at this rate.

My potential problems:

I buy shit at the AH. I BURN through consumables... stat-foods, potions, scrolls...

I constantly buy stacks of juice. In beta, I used the highest juice I could use... which was admittedly pretty stupid. Now, I have a stack of the 'high' juice (2k mana) the medium juice (1200 mana) and the light juice (800 mana) ... rounded numbers. If I just need a quick fix, I drink the small juice. This is an expensive habit, but I basically have no downtime and it's a pattern I can't break!

I had 11g yesterday and then I played fashion consultant to Dangerpaul and made him every color of shirt available. Now I have 7g 8(. But! I have a full closet of brightly colored textiles!

I had no idea that 29g was considered poor. Maybe I should start whoring the loot a little more. The few times I *have* rolled on things I don't need - I have made a little cash, but by 'little' I mean - 2g extra padding. But then the next level rolls around and I'm sitting on 23s again.

I'm uber poor.

29g isn't bad, actually.

Tailoring isn't that expensive if you aren't buying the materials in the AH. If you are - well of course you're going to be poor. Farm your own t/s materials - you get exp, cash, and the ingredients... saving yourself a lot of heartache later.

True Story:

I was in Orgrimmar checking some auctions and whatever... I hopped a wyvern to go to Tanaris... and due to the bug in channels I was still in all of the Ogr channels despite being in South Barrens and entering Thousand Needles when I saw this in the Trade Channel:

"Paying 50g for Dark Leather Gloves!!! C'mon - SOMEONE has to have this pattern!"

I think to myself... "boy, now that's a typo...". But curiousity got the better of me... and I sent him a tell: "seriously? 50 GOLD?" "YUP!" was the response. Naturally, I told him I'd have a pair for him in a few minutes.

I have to finish my ride to Tanaris and then I gate back to Orgrimmar (love shaman gate, btw...). There's no way I carry around light or mediums hides/leathers any more - so I go to the AH and buyout a couple of lowbie auctions and make the gloves for him.

Bam.

Investment: about 30silver
Return: 50 GOLD

I was shocked. The guy was a level 37 rogue... he wanted the gloves because he had a few boxes he couldn't open and he expected the +3 lockpicking bonus on the gloves to make the difference.

I then had no excuse to NOT buy my kodo. I had 160 gold then and I couldn't keep telling myself "You won't have money for spells...". So now I own a brown kodo (I was level 43 at the time)... and some shmuck has a pair of n00b gloves.

I made a run to Gnomeragon everytime I went to Stranglethorn. Everytime I was bored I'd clear SFK. Also soloed Doan a few times at 40 for cash. It's not that hard if you actively try to get money. If you never roll on anything and you only get stuff you need and don't keep anything else, then yeah, you're going to be poor.

Vonk and poor folks, don't worry about it too much. I have solo'ed the majority of my 48 levels and used hundreds of stacks of mana regen pots, and I got my alchemy to 275 (this was not cheap to do). It took me a while but I got my mount at lvl 47. I never sold anything in tha AH. Unless your name is Quolyte and you are a ninjaing loot whore don't expect to get your mount before lvl 45. Focus on leveling which is the most important thing, the mount will come with time.

It's not THAT hard to have the 90g at or around level 40... really it's not. I'm no loot whore and my name is definitely not Quolyte... but I had the money to buy a mount at level 40. If you don't use the AH to sell things you come across, then you won't have it. If you don't use the AH, you're a fool and throwing your money away.

It's also pretty difficult on our server to sell higher level items on the Horde side. There's nobody who is high level. In the last week I've had 6 items run for 24 hours without selling...at the lowest starting bid.

Can't see where your server is that different from ours. We only yesterday had someone hit 60 on the horde side for our server. However, economies vary between servers, naturally... so maybe you guys just have a suck economy.

I wouldn't say fool... Throwing away money, yes. It's all about how you play the game. Money in this game has very little impact, levels have a VERY big impact. I focus on leveling and power gaming, when I am on I make the best of my time and that means, kill, kill, kill... I can't be bothered by things such as the AH and squeezing every penny out of my items. The way I see it is, I wont make much money off the items I loot but my levels will allow me to get more items, more drops and faster then those who spend hours at the auction house, so in the end the cash amount I have compared to someone else who plays the same amount of time is close to equal. The difference is I got a few levels on those people. So it's a game style difference, I can argue that those who play for gold are the ones who are foolish =) and are throwing away levels =)

How am I throwing away time? Spending 5 minutes each day to put up auctions for my drops ... yeah I could have gotten another 3 kills in! What am I thinking!!

As for making money, Tim aka Pacemaker or Bilge, and I both did it the same way. We took a night or two of farming the centaurs in Desolace then the trolls in Stranglethorn, both nights were easy 15-20 gold. I hit 40, trained plate geared up and picked up my mount. Plus I have easily dropped 60 or so gold into smithing, with all made items vendored, so a ton lost there.

I am sorry but your time perception is very much off. Traveling from certain zones to get to an auction house can take several minutes, even if you use your stone to port back to a town that has an AH, then it will take you a significant time to get back to the questing zones. Evaluating the costs, managing your items, droping them into the AH takes much more time then you assume it takes. For me when I turn in my quests, I sell my items and continue my leveling, while you are still figuring out what items to sell, for how much and then flying back to the questing zone.

My bags get filled every hour that I play, I have to unload often, when I unload it takes me 5-10 mins to get to a town and get back to leveling (usulay turn in some quests at the same time). I am sorry but don't come tell me you spend 5 mins in a day to auction off your stuff unless you only play only 30 mins per day.

Anyhow, if you figure that getting to an auction house and getting back to the questing zone every hour takes 10-20 mins. If you play 8 hours in a day you would have waisted anywhere between 80-160mins compared to my 40-80 mins. You figure the math from there. I'll take my levels over your gp any day.

Freon seems to play the closest to my own style.

I'm sitting on 8g atm... and 15 bubbles from 40. Think I can do it?

Like I said Vonkaar, don't worry about it too much. The horse is mostly for show. It is helpful for long runs but I only started to do long runs as of lvl 45. Quests become much more continental around there and beyond. Before that its all about STV and you don't really need a horse for that. You should start rolling for any junk that no one in your group needs. Also when you find a camp with casters around your level take advantage of them. I can kill 4 casters my level with a full mana bar when I can only kill 2 melee guys with the same mana. Thus I get twice the loot and twice the XP.

You suck at it then Freon... I have no issues with lost exp due to my AH practices. I'm not the highest level person on the server - but I'm high enough (44 atm) and I have my horse and play substantially less than 8 hours per day.

With what you're talking about, I seriously hope you're 60 or close to it - otherwise your "approach" is doing nothing but losing you money.

Young paduan learner (Ugzugz)... Clearly you wouldn't have issues with your in game strategies because it's the one you chose to use, and unless your a glutton for pain you will continue to do the things "you" think are best as will I.

I was only countering your strategies with the benifits of saving time, if you value this less then money then that is your perogative. However you cannot sell me on the idea that using the AH is faster than unloading gear and your nearest vendor, and that's a fact.

My argument is that pre level 60 XP is the most important thing

Your argument is that pinching every penny is the most important thing

I am sure we will both enjoy our strategies.

Oh and BTW I don't play 8 hours a day... I only used 8 hours as an example. I probably average 5 hours a day.

Freon playing 5 hours a day at level 50 will net more money than you playing 6 hours a day at level 44 AND auctioning items.
