Freon's Priest Build

Postby Freon » Tue Jan 18, 2005 1:56 pm

For all those that have been asking here is what I would like to consider my final talent tree build (I hope). WARNING: This build might not be for you nor do I consider it the best for you (just the best for me), all talents are useful when used correctly and when used in conjunction with your skills.

For the lazy ones that don't want to read the detailed talents below here is a synopsis:

Discipline Talents (10 points):
These 10 points are essential no matter what build you want, if you don't invest 10 points to get improved shield and fortitude go play pac man because you are a suck priest and need to die

Holy Talents (21 points):
The 21 points allow you to be a better more efficient healer, get more crit heals, reduce agro from heals. For a true healer these are the bare minimum requirements.

Shadow Talents (20 points):
After going full Shadow and full holy spec as a level 60 priest I felt totally gimp as a healer when shadow spec'ed or as damage dealer/group helper when holy spec'ed(mind flay, silence..etc). I was also virtually inept as a pvp'er with full holy so I decide to get the best of the both worlds and it worked out perfect. All the talents I got in Shadow are USEFULL in almost every situation and have become second nature to me.

I truly feel this is the best build for a priest who wants to be able to solo, do high end instances, pvp, dual and do it all. Not having any of the top abilities does not concern me at all at this time. Only thing I might regret is missing out on some goodies in the middle of the talent tree in discipline, but the other stuff I have is more important. Hope this helps you young priests. BTW I recommend fat shadow skeelz from 40-60 then switch to a versatile healer at 60.

Interesting builds, but I still think going heavy holy spec is going to be necessary when you're L60 and planning on hitting Molten Core, Onyxia, etc. Dunno, hard to say given that no one's beaten even Onyxia yet, but hey...

Arlos: I am 60, and I haven't done Molten Core and/or Onyxia... However I have done single group Scholomance and Lower BRS.

I think it would be safe to say that you either haven’t looked at or tried the lower part of the holy talent tree. I can definitely say there isn't much there. Let me list the bottom 5 talents for your convenience:

-Divine Fury: reduces casting of smite and holy fire (5 points) USELESS
-Improved Prayer Healing: Lowers mana cost for group heal(2 points) semi useful
-Spirit of Redemption: GAY GAY GAY
-Master Healer: Reduces casting time of heals MAX 0.5secs (5 points) OMG GAY
-Holy Nova: AE dmg, reduces agro temporarily for 5 secs. Fun for killing noob mobs, but sucks in raids unless you like waking up CC’ed mobs, and agro reduction is VERY LOW and unnoticeable.

So you say you would rather go heavy Holy rather then getting:

Shadow Talents (18 points)

# Spirit Tap - 5/5 points (Oops i don't have 5 points in this, I put in Blackout, spirit tap is useless at 60)
Gives you a 100% chance to gain a 100% bonus to your Spirit after killing a target. For the duration, your Mana may regenerate at a 50% rate while casting. Lasts 15 seconds.

# Improved Shadow Word: Pain - 2/2 points
Increases the duration of your Shadow Word: Pain spell by 6 seconds.

# Shadow Affinity - 3/5 points
Reduces the threat generated by your Shadow spells by 15%.

# Improved Mind Blast - 5/5 points
Reduces the cooldown of your Mind Blast spell by 2.5 seconds.

# Mind Flay - 1/1 point
Assault the target's mind with Shadow energy, causing 75 damage over 3 seconds and slowing the target to 50% of their movement speed.

# Improved Fade - 2/2 points
Increases the duration of your Fade ability by 10 seconds.

Hmm, agro reduction is handled much better by Improved fade, Mind flay often saves groups and raids with its ability to snare running mobs. And the others allow me to help with a little extra dmg in groups or in solo.

If you noticed I have pretty much max healing abilities in my build, I don’t know how the other crap in holy will help other then the reduction of mana cost for group heal.
