shrug

at 48 i was grinding the nethergarde miners and what not in blasted lands, they're 47-48

i can go non-stop (i'm conservative on mana) with no down-time for 10+ minutes, unless i get 3 on me, then i usually gotta drink

i also am like the only person that likes spirit, seeing as how i usually only end up casting spells at the beginning of the fight, and sometimes near the end, if they're a runner, i have enough time to regen mana to full by the end of the fight

i really didn't know that mages had a hard time soloing, i usually see them right next to me grinding the same stuff i am, at my same level (not as fast as i am, though)

I've been focusing primarily on Agi, and Sta secondary. I think my tough scorp shoulders and Ghaz bp are about the only +Spi items I really have. The rest is all -of the Monkey, or +crit (Berserker Helm).

What's the conversion rate like on Spi to +points of regen?

Normally when I fight, I just Mark, sicc pet, Concussive (slows mob down while pet establishes agro), Sting, then Arcane a couple of times until dead (concussing once more if they're a runner, unless I run in to Clip them, or they are already on me at the end of the fight).

I have Aimed Shot, but since it costs like 10% of my mana to cast, I don't use it all that often. I would use it more often if my crit % were better, but as it stands it's pretty underwhelming. My regular shots do more damage on a crit (costing me no mana), than a non-crit Aimed shot.

I tend to not use traps either, unless I want to space out a multi-pull a little with Freeze, or put down a little extra damage on big fights early on (usually just in groups).

We don't. I just have hunter and paladin envy as they seem to grind two to three times faster than me.

hehe you can come solo next to me, apparently I am a slackboss hunter :P

Granted, he's only lvl 14, but it seems like when I play my mage alt. I have to go full burn on every mob I'm up against or I get pasted.

Normal fight breakdown: Pull with frost bolt, land 2 fire nukes as the frozen mobs slowly makes its way toward me (mob is on me around the time the second fireball is finishing), "I cast Magic Missile" (gogo uninterruptible spell talents), and melee until the mob a) dies b) turns to run, then instant fire nuke one last time (if it's refreshed yet). If the runner will cause nasty adds, and I can't stop it in time elsewise, I'll burn frost nova.

Good thing I can pick food and drink out of the ether, because I have to stop and recover after every other mob doing it like this, and if I couldn't summon them I would have to carry those around like a hunter carries ammunition.

I kill, drink, kill, drink, etc. He seems to mow nonstop. Is there some strategy I'm missing. He kills like Saddam, whereis I'm more like a Kennedy.

Is there a trick to soloing or are some classes just that much better at it?

I hear you on this.. .My damage spells have about as much punch as a parapalegic... The melee classes especially rogue pwn me on damage.

The only way for me to put out any real pain is to shift into cat form and then back out to heal... rinse repeat. This isn't very effective compared to the melee classes but it gets me by.

So far I think DPS is king in this game and casters could use some upgrades in this area. With regen as fast as it is, a group with serious DPS damn near doesn't even need a healer, which makes druids kinda 2nd rate... much like rangers in EQ (except for Aatrex.).

I have no problems finding spots to grind, my issue is how much SLOWER the mage is than other classes.

the way i do it is:

mark
set immo trap
pull with lvl 1 arcane shot (spell w/ least agro)
send pet
sting
autoshot them down

i find arcane shot to be not enough dmg for how much mana it is, at 51 my immo trap does 510 dmg for 190 mana, while arcane shot does 115 dmg for 135 mana, so it's much more efficient to use immo

i find arcane shot to be most useful for when i need extra bursts of dmg when a mob adds, if a mob runs, or if i gotta reposition myself and i fill it in the gap where my autoshot should be

i'm not entirely positive of how much mana regen you get from spirit, all i know is that i take advantage of it as much as possible because i'm not casting after my initial shots, thus giving me that 5 seconds after casting for it to take effect

My typical strategy is to:

(before fights, long before usually)

Lightning Shield
Rockbiter (if there are no runners)
Frostbrand (if they are runners)

Flame shock
Stoneskin
Healing Stream depending if the mob is tough or not (usually not)
Frost Shock if it's a runner...

That's about it, I mow through mobs equal in level to me or 1-2 higher.

3 higher and I might need to rest up a tiny bit.

4 higher is a guaranteed rest.

5 higher is an ordeal.

Never done 6 higher yet.

Typically I mark, send pet, hit Aimed shot

pet's always had time to growl once before aim'd lands, then it's just sting, arcane till it drops

Blow thru a lot of mana, but I think it's retarded to not use all the tools you have

if i get the chance, I'll duo with another hunter

this way we can lay down frost and explosion traps, and AE shiznat

finally ding'd 40, so can test out Volley now~

I tend to Mark then send my pet. Aimer Shot. Cuncussive shot to slow it down if it comes after me and have a chance at a 3 sec stun. Sting and autoshot. Have Cuncussive shot erady for healers when they are about to heal or for runners when they are about to run.

Starting around 24 I started doing this in 1K needlees and it works great. Rarely does my pet not have aggro from the start, and should my pet not be able to keep the mob away I just melee while my pet tanks. Few less DPS but not by a whole lot thoug I have a much beter wep then a gun atm.

i used to do it pretty much the same way. aimed shot, send pet while aiming, follow with a concussion to slow/stun, the pet usually intercepts.. the only time it failed was when i landed a crit on the aimed.

Lyion, once a hunter have his/her pet at level 10, soloing is getting so easy. i am 27 now and i can kill none stop regular mob(same level or +1-2). Only if i have more than 2 adds in same time or 1 add after another i need to drink a little. I need to feed my pet more often than i drink =p

Again same level elite mob, i was missing about 3-4% more dmg to be able to finish it (try 2 times elite harpy lev 26, i was 26 and pet to), i was using The Rake as pet, maybe i should have go with old bear for tank powa. Maybe later with more talents i will be able to solo elite same level. Only down side is getting bow same level as you, as WoW devs have make bow pretty rare or hard to get. If you have start getting gear for a futur Hunter you will see how much solo is easy.

Any class with great gear should make a difference, but not all will perform the same thou. But Hunter is a great soloer, i love it more than my Warlock for soloing.

p.s.: mage shine more in PvP, big dmg in short time = dead enemy =)

As a hunter. I am 47 atm (could be 60 but haven't played in 3 weeks). Depending on the pull situation, if i'm fighting a +3 elite. I'd do stat food first, buff up.

Do Mark on the enemy, set immo trap. Drink really quick so i hav efull mana again.
Pull with aimed shot
Concussive shot
Sting
Arcane
Multi Arrow (adds dmg)
By now the mob is about at me and around 1/3 of his hp is gone.
I use wing clip, back up (my pet is still attacking him)
Get back far enough for another concussive shot
Sting
Multi arrow

By this time he should be atleast 1/3 if not less

Wing clip and finish him.

+3 elites are hard. Have to bait them around a bit and hope to not get adds. My strat is pretty good i think. I dunno. There are a lot of different varieties.

I also have high stamina and high agility. roughly 240 a piece. I farm in Feralas making around 12-15g an hour and work hard to keep my gear par to my level. Which helps a lot when fighting higher end monstors.

Wow, that must be a hell of an economy you guys have. Our AH is a desolate wasteland. On the other hand, the Alliance on our server have an amazing AH, but then there are 4 times as many of them.

Those are amazing stats though. At 54 my agi is only 204, and my gear is heavily slanted toward Agi. Unbelievable.

i'm a 60 mage myself and i went through all the different Spec combos levelling up (i'm at 100 g to respec again) full arcane, full cold, full fire, arcane/cold , arcane/fire, etc and i think the best build for levelling is dependant on 2 things. Whether you group in instances more or if you solo more. If you are soloing and you went cold/arcane with getting the + crit chance + crit damage + freeze duration etc abilities as well as the Evocation, clearcasting, medidation lines you will be able to kill 6-7 mobs in arow before having to drink once. If you are grouping more often (like i was almost always 50 + ) i went with Fire/Arcane with fire getting up to combustion and flamewave and arcane being again evoc, clearc, and meditation ( pretty much a staple for ANY mage i think ) as well as of course the instant arcane explosion it was more then ample to AE in any instance of my level. The only other way i might have gone was in anticipation of Black rock (which has numerous fire immune mobs) is gone harder arcane and some cold back up with arcane going all the way to the 30 pt spec for 35% more damage to your instant AE nukes and some cold for the elementals, especially since after 60 you seldom have a reason to need to grind things.

Well, at 60, it's the same for Hunters. No surprise there, since I think we're on the same tables.

I believe it's ~24agi= 1% crit. (at 60)

Problem is, as a hunter, if you want to go all out for crits, you end up being a lot less well rounded since crit gear ranges from crappy stats to no stats at all.
A hunter will also be forced to downgrade to some leather pieces too, like devilsaur pants, etc if they're going all out for crit gear. Call it the "glass cannon" build.

The only stat that doesn't take a total nosedive is probably Sta (which is a small mercy), since that seems to found on a lot of gear with +crit.

Would love to know ?agi= 1% dodge, or how ?atk (derived from agi)= +1% to hit, etc.

Right now I'm splitting AGI/STA pretty evenly and it's working out great.

I doubt I'll keep it up as I level more but it's working just dandy now.
