I keep running into these warriors who insist they're "rage warriors" and that strength gear > stamina gear cause they do more dps

Is it just me, or does low hp tank = useless?

I was sta built, at level 50 I had around 3700 unbuffed. However, I sucked too much and needed 10k, but that is another story.

I have multiple weapons, but not sets of gear at 44... and a lot of it is outdated as I haven't really done a huge run of upgrades since my mid 30s aside from switching up to plate which pretty much meant whatever had the best mix of stats etc got purchased in the AH or made in the forge.

Using a shield and sword, my stats are significantly lower than my 2 handers. I usually run around 2500ish hp with shield and sword and 2800ish with axes, unbuffed. I typically also have +12 stam food & spirit scrolls & other shit like potions.

I am at the point of diminishing returns with armor as well. Equipping my shield gives me +8% damage reduction. Drinking one of those 1k armor potions gives me a whopping +5% more damage reduction.

I believe what you'll see more and more in the coming months are warriors with even fewer HPs than that as they focus on +Defense items however... as that is the best stat out there for a warrior.

I'm still waiting for someone to translate +Def into an Armor equivalant. If what your saying is true about the diminishing results on armor then why wouldn't flat-out HP be the way to go?

Honestly I haven't noticed anything from +def gear personally.

I prefer +sta FAR more than defense...

And I haven't met a warrior within 5 levels of me with more hp yet...

I'm at 1.7k now at 34.

I think there needs to be a nice balance in this game. I did a few SM runs with a "Sta Warrior" with massive HP and it was the two worst runs I've done. He couldn't generate any rage to save his life (or mine) and all of that HP made him useless because he was unable to hold hate. Best tanks I've been with are ones with moderate HP with moderate rage building ability.

Maybe it's different at the upper end, I don't know.

+def looks really interesting

If it's a big factor in how damage taken is calculated it could be a nice thing to collect~

Yeah it seems to me that def would help even out the DPS spikes and make healing a bit more predicable rather than being such a frenzy it is at the upper levels. I'd love to see some tests done on this and see what kind of effect it has on the spike DPS of mobs. If a tank can get the spike DPS of places like Strath down to a level where Priests can rely on the Heal line rather than the Flash Heal line it would really help the mana issues.

I will bring my supreme knowledge into this thread.

At lvl 60 my ac is 7.8k and My HP is 4.2k.

My HP is low and I don't care to bring it up. My job as a Tank is to make the best use of the priests heals and that isnt served by sacrificing Defense and AC for STAM.

At my current AC 280 = 1% of DR

1 point of Defense inscreases your Dodge Block and Parry by 0.04 %.

I used to have all Def. gear and low ac gear but I realized that wasnt that good.

Now I have a combination of the two, my ac is nearly 8k and my defense is 385 and I tank like a badass.

If you see warriors substituting STAM for STR they are retarded. If you see Warriors substituting STAM for Def AC gear, they are smart....like me.

If you want to tank, play a warrior.
If you want to do (melee) dps, play a rogue.

If you want to tank really well and do more dps than a rogue, wrong game.

Tikker i'm just curious, why do you do a sta build more than agility/spirit? Primarily Agility...

Is your build all in combat skills? Or Marks?

"If you want to tank, play a warrior.

Kind of a blunt statement mud, no offense... there are 3 dps classes in this game...Rogues..Mages..Hunters..

All 3 do some insane damage.

And on tanking, warriors are the best tanks....Although, i think shamans can tank almost as well.

It could be my opinion and experience is different than yours, but that's just from what i've observed..

Shaman (and druids) can NOT tank as well as a warrior. They don't have the armor class, they don't have the taunting skills, and most of all, they don't have the damage mitigation.

If you're just talking about groups doing mainstream quests/instances, they are adequate... if you're talking about higher level instances like BRS and such, then no.

They can - for a single battle if it's not very long. By chain shocking and getting some good Windfury hits in... but the shaman will be very OOM and you will have to wait for his mana for the next fight. However, if grouped with a warrior, the warrior could deliberately take the agro away if he wanted to...

So, what you really mean is "no"?

And druids can actually obtain high AC if they maintain a set of tank gear, which many don't bother to do. Quite frankly, I never noticed any mitigation problems as long as my AC was at warrior-equivalent levels, but that may well have changed. The biggest problem I had with tanking as a druid was maintaining aggro. Dire Bear DPS used to be so pathetically low that Growl was barely adequate to keep up with the aggro DPS classes generated. If someone went full burn, they frequently got pasted. Dire Bear's poor offensive rage generation exacerbated the problem by making it difficult to maintain rage and still recover aggro. I'm told Dire bear is significantly better than it used to be (much like cat form), but I quit playing my druid at 30 and started my mage, so I can't attest to its current state.

If someone goes full burn they deserve to get pasted.

Don't blame it on the tank when your group is a bunch of tards.

There's some instances in the game where you're required to go balls out if you want to win.
