It's probably becuase i've only run into horrible mages to date
I see a lot of power in the class, but most of the ones i've seen are retards that can only play 1 way

they can only AE
or they can only nuke
or they can only poly

the more I think about it, I tend to just prefer people who play well, regardless of class, as opposed to perfect group makeup with poor players

unlike EQ (to a certain extent) you can get by with almost any 5 classes in a group and be successful if you play to your strengths

My usual group is as follows

1 Mage

I would love to compare different types of groups, but you see my set nightly WOW group consists of.... me.

Until then my favorite group will continue to consist of one mage.

But you realized last night that even an overly inebriated me results in ownage. I still don't remember logging off after SM.

Ahhh, the everpresent idiot factor. My friends list is populated more by people I won't group with than by people I associate with. The name test is in full effect at all times (particularly for taurens whose name is any sort of play on bovinity). I rarely wind up grouped with mages other than Melgoth (Glic), so I don't have to worry too much about them... you want to swap stupid fucking hunter stories, I've got a few though. I'm sure it's due largely to the overwhelming popularity of the class, especially since the Horde doesn't have night elf bimbos or fuckingannoyadins to draw off the skim of the crop, but it seems like a ridiculous portion of the hunters I group with are absolutely inept. Right behind them are the shamans. Ever hear "oh, I don't heal, I'm a melee shaman"? Grats you on being a groupless shaman.

there are a ton of clueless players out

more than I've ever seen in any other game, except maybe early in UO

but back then, EVERYONE was clueless, so it wasn't a big deal

Personally, I think no group is ideal but one that seems to work really well is

Warrior
Priest
hunter/sham/rouge combo -hunter assist on a rogue can drop anything very quickly
Mage/Lock (Banish, Sheep, and fear are almost essential, as well as soulstones)

druids are nice for backup rez and healing as well as mid-fight rezzing and sleep

i like our group that me and my buddies get most nights
Warrior (Full defensive spec so 6k+ defense with good agro/icy chill proc)
Priest (full holy spec + like 60 in healing focus)
Mage <-- me ( 31 Fire / 20 Arcane AE/Mana Regen Spec)
Warlock (Full hp,Hellfire, etc spec)
Shaman/Druid (Both full healing spec)

We can roll through Strath, LBRS, Scholo np with our AE power and one healer each spamming myself and the warlock. I've hit 16,800 DPS in Stratholme np.

Postby chanteez » Tue Feb 08, 2005 6:58 pm

basically.... i can level up to 28 just as quick in alliance vrs horde zones... i have done both np... level 28 both share sv zones (where i go in alliance) then after that tanaris which is shared by both, then ungaro's which is shared by both, etc etc... basically after 28 most zones are quested by both horde and alliance, which i exp in.

i dont play humans myself, so i'm comparing night elf/gnome with my undead/tauren experience.

readboss ... i said up to level 28 is easy in both

after that both factions share the main area's just the same, so one cant be said to be easier than other.

i've played to 40 in horde as priest.. undead in beta
and 60 in alliance

far from newb... been playing since nov 2003

Im a shaman, But I dont fucking heal, Unless its a very close knit group I would rather laugh at you as you die then heal you.
That's my outlook on life. and Im so far very successful with getting a group.
I more so drop totems to help crowd control, help boost dps to the overall group, maximize mana return, and do small amounts of ae damage then heal.

If you want to bitch because you think the Shaman class is to heal only then go fuck yourself. Its versitile and more complex then being the bitch boy who backup heals.

Maybe if your group shaman only heals he is selling himself short. Who knows, who cares. I have more useful abilities then to stand around hit F1-f5 and press the X key over and over.

Anyway im done.
Peace

Being backup healer doesn't mean you're healing every 2 seconds. If you're invited into groups in high level instances as a backup healer and you don't heal during the fight, you will never win.

Nobody said a shaman should only heal. But a shaman who does not heal is generally wasted space in a group. Everything else they bring to a group is done significantly better by other classes. The value of shaman lies in the combination of their abilities: if they ignore a subset of their functionality, their overall performance suffers significantly.

So you're saying you're a useless tard then. IF you're one of the shamans that ONLY melee and nuke then please just delete now because you're a waste of a group space and a waste of a queue slot. Shamans are mediocre dps, zero crowd control, buffs that usually only help other mediocre dps classes (warriors, hunters, and themselves) the only redeeming quality for me to ever have a shaman in a group was the fact they "can" heal when need be. Any group that relies on a shaman for dps is just going to either crawl at a 8 hour instance pace or just die np.

And any group with 2 warriors and a hunter is just meh to me as well... Hunters and warriors are subpar dps classes and what's the point of having 2 warriors if you have a druid sometimes as well when a druid gains agro with growl faster then a 2nd warrior ever would.

well, some people actually play just to have fun, and hang with friends =P

That being said, While i normally like to specialize, rogue, mage, or priest, i ended up choosing to play a hunter just because i could be relatively effective playing with just 1 hand (other holding the baby)

You need to fire whoever your mage is, then. (Pun intended~)

I have absolutely no problem keeping something sheeped while nuking. Blizzard and flamestrike are a different story... but I can easily cast arcane explosion, frost nova, and cone of cold around my sheep with little to no worry.
