There are two types of "lag" (as defined as something that causes your system to perform poorly):
- Network Lag
- Graphics Lag
Network lag for the game is negligible. It's no different than an average day of playing EQ in the Last Days of that game. There are a few servers which experience more problems than others (if you'd like to hear about this, ask Finawin about his... he'll whine *cough* inform you all about the problems they have).
Graphics Lag is determined by two *major* factors (there are many other smaller ones):
1) The hardware/settings of your computer
2) The number of people/NPCs in the area you are currently playing.
In light of this, if you have a suck computer or you have your settings above the capabilities of the hardware you DO run, then you will have problems. If you hang out in Orgrimmar, for example, you will also experience higher amounts of issues.
So, in other words, if you have the hardware, you have it configured correctly, and you don't make yourself miserable by living your in-game existence in the Auction House... then you should have no problems with lag, any more.
