Bush Backers Amass to Counter 'Peace Mom' By KATHLEEN HENNESSEY, Associated Press Writer
Mon Aug 22, 7:11 PM ET

VACAVILLE, Calif. - A caravan proclaiming support for U.S. troops began a tour through California on Monday and stopped in the hometown of Cindy Sheehan, the anti-war mother who gained national prominence during a vigil outside President Bush's Texas ranch.

Conservative activists and military families embarked on a tour they are calling "You don't speak for me, Cindy!" and are planning rallies in several California cities before heading to Crawford, Texas.

"It's time to lay down the anger. We need to continue to uphold those people over there, to uphold those men and women with their boots on the ground," said Debra Johns, head of the Northern California Marine Moms, who helped organize the caravan.

"That's not the message being made" by the mother of the fallen soldier, Johns said during a rally in Sheehan's hometown, where about 30 Bush supporters gathered outside the Vacaville Reporter newspaper.

Vacaville was among several stops for the caravan, which is being sponsored by Move America Forward, a Bay Area-based group. Other rallies Monday were scheduled in San Francisco, Sacramento and Fresno.

Several supporters said they have family members serving in the military, and some said they knew Sheehan and her son, Casey.

Toni Colip, 50, of Vacaville, said her son, David, went to high school with Casey Sheehan and is now in the Marines, although not in Iraq. She said her son opposes Sheehan's activities and has asked her to support his military service even if he is injured or killed.
"He said, 'Don't dishonor me, don't walk on my grave,'" Colip said.

Sheehan's 24-year-old son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, died last year in Iraq. She began a protest vigil Aug. 6 on the road leading to Bush's ranch, an act that has encouraged anti-war activists to join her and prompted peace vigils throughout the country.

She vowed to remain until Bush agreed to meet with her or until his monthlong vacation ended, but she flew to Los Angeles last week after her 74-year-old mother had a stroke.

The pro-Bush caravan plans to join fellow supporters who have set up their own camp in downtown Crawford as a reaction to the Sheehan-inspired vigil. Bush was in Salt Lake City on Monday, where he spoke to a national veterans group to rally support for the war.

Several of those in the caravan said they understood Sheehan's anger but disagreed with her protest.

"This is not the way to honor her son," said Lori Judy, 49, of Vacaville, whose son, Tim, served in Iraq.

Drivers waved flags as the caravan left Vacaville on its way to Sacramento, led by a recreational vehicle and a moving van covered with a sign reading, "Cindy Sheehan does not speak for me."

afterthought: If I didn't have to go to work I would join this group.

Does this extended media coverage prove anything more than the unrelenting spin of the media itself?

It proves that the media was fully engulfed with its bias by giving Sheehan so much attention to begin with.

Tuggan, you're letting your ignorance shine through again. Sheehan's primary purpose for camping out in Crawford, TX was so that she could personally talk to Bush. Do you even watch or listen to the news?

yeah, thats what the papers say. its also very clear you believe everysingle thing you read(hello seventh day), so its really not surprising youre not capable of seeing beyond the headlines.

you really are quite stupid if you thought even for a second this woman believed the president was really going to follow through on her request for a meeting.

Tuggan, your attitude shows that you're pretty much a worthless liberal punk. I knew you were going to start slinging the personal attacks around, so I'm not even going to comment on your stupidity and total ignorance any more.

Thats only because you dont have jack shit to say in response. Which at least proves to me you have some common sense and agree that Mrs Sheehan truly had no intention of speaking with the president directly, and moreso was after media attention to blow up her opinion and stance on the matter.

People are backing this woman all over the country. She even has people protesting her fuckin protest. She did exactly what she was hoping to do. To me these people are petty, but they have every right to ride around spreading their message. Dont be so fucking clueless all the time, posting this kinda crap followed up with RUBUKED AND OWNED!

You don't have shit to say. You don't even understand what's going on so all you can do is come in here and troll. She had every intention of speaking to Bush, and that was her primary motivating factor for camping out on the side of the road like a friggin psycho. The side-effect of her camping out was the liberal media loving this so they gave her the attention she wanted. You are the one who is clueless, but you've always been clueless... at least for the last 5 years you have been.

She absolutely got REBUKED and OWNED by military personnel and other people who want her to shut her pie-hole. Yes, she has the RIGHT to do what she's doing... nobody's debating that. She's just coming across as another liberal activist hag who has nothing relevant to say. Yes, she lost her son in the war, but that's the risk he took by joining the military.

You lose, moron.

Mindia, let me ask you one simple question.

Do you think the president is going to have a 1 on 1 meeting with you ever in your lifetime? No matter what you want to talk about, no matter how important it may be. Do you think the president is going to take the time to talk with you?

If you think "yes", then you really truly are a clueless fucking idiot.

If you think "no", then shut the fuck up.

It was so obviously an attention grab on her behalf, the woman had absolutely no intention of talking with the president directly. Get a fucking grasp on reality you fool. At first I thought she was a pain in the ass, but since shes got you conservatives frothing at the mouth I support her 100%.

Your questions are completely stupid and irrelevant. I have no reason to talk to any president. I would love to shake Bush's hand and tell him that he has my support, but other than that I have nothing to say to him. I hate to break the news to you, but you're the only one frothing at the mouth.

Totally a stupid question because the answer is quite obvious, but hardly irrelevent to the discussion. So answer it. Then shut the fuck up. Cause when ya do, you will kill your own argument.

You make no sense, and you have furthermore just demonstrated to the entire NT community that you have very poor comprehension skills and a very low intelligence quotient. Put on your thinking cap. Try real hard to understand what Sheehan was trying to do by camping out in Crawford, TX while Bush was on vacation there at the same time. She looked right into the news camera and said, "I want to ask Bush in person why he invaded Iraq under false premises." But you can continue squeezing your eyes shut, and patting your ears screaming "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA" and pretending she never said that, because that's your right and is what you're good at. You might want to try having one of your daddy's post for you again like you did a couple years ago when you were getting your ass handed to you in a debate.

The woman is not stupid enough to think the president is actually going to allow some random person from the street to have a 1 on 1 conversation with him. She was after media coverage and she got it. The fact that this 1 woman was able to cause as much a fuss as she did that people are actually forming protests speaks volums for how successful her little demonstration was. In all, I would say she won her little stand off.

Fact of the matter is she did talk to him right after her son was killed. She interviewed amd had a complete different story:

http://www.thereporter.com/republished

From our archive: Bush, Sheehans share moments
By David Henson/Staff Writer

Since learning in April that their son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, had been killed in Iraq, life has been everything but normal for the Sheehan family of Vacaville.
Casey's parents, Cindy and Patrick, as well as their three children, have attended event after event honoring the soldier both locally and abroad, received countless letters of support and fielded questions from reporters across the country.

"That's the way our whole lives have been since April 4," Patrick said. "It's been surreal."

But none of that prepared the family for the message left on their answering machine last week, inviting them to have a face-to-face meeting with President George W. Bush at Fort Lewis near Seattle.

Surreal soon seemed like an understatement, as the Sheehans - one of 17 families who met Thursday with Bush - were whisked in a matter of days to the Army post and given the VIP treatment from the military. But as their meeting with the president approached, the family was faced with a dilemma as to what to say when faced with Casey's commander-in-chief.

"We haven't been happy with the way the war has been handled," Cindy said. "The president has changed his reasons for being over there every time a reason is proven false or an objective reached."

The 10 minutes of face time with the president could have given the family a chance to vent their frustrations or ask Bush some of the difficult questions they have been asking themselves, such as whether Casey's sacrifice would make the world a safer place.

But in the end, the family decided against such talk, deferring to how they believed Casey would have wanted them to act. In addition, Pat noted that Bush wasn't stumping for votes or trying to gain a political edge for the upcoming election.

"We have a lot of respect for the office of the president, and I have a new respect for him because he was sincere and he didn't have to take the time to meet with us," Pat said.

Sincerity was something Cindy had hoped to find in the meeting. Shortly after Casey died, Bush sent the family a form letter expressing his condolences, and Cindy said she felt it was an impersonal gesture.

"I now know he's sincere about wanting freedom for the Iraqis," Cindy said after their meeting. "I know he's sorry and feels some pain for our loss. And I know he's a man of faith."

The meeting didn't last long, but in their time with Bush, Cindy spoke about Casey and asked the president to make her son's sacrifice count for something. They also spoke of their faith.

While meeting with Bush, as well as Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, was an honor, it was almost a tangent benefit of the trip. The Sheehans said they enjoyed meeting the other families of fallen soldiers, sharing stories, contact information, grief and support.

For some, grief was still visceral and raw, while for others it had melted into the background of their lives, the pain as common as breathing. Cindy said she saw her reflection in the troubled eyes of each.

"It's hard to lose a son," she said. "But we (all) lost a son in the Iraqi war."

The trip had one benefit that none of the Sheehans expected.

For a moment, life returned to the way it was before Casey died. They laughed, joked and bickered playfully as they briefly toured Seattle.

For the first time in 11 weeks, they felt whole again.

"That was the gift the president gave us, the gift of happiness, of being together," Cindy said.

Sounds to me is if she is using Casey's Grave as a personal soapbox. Lets see other letters....

"The Sheehan Family lost our beloved Casey in the Iraq War and we have been silently, respectfully grieving. We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She now appears to be promoting her own personal agenda and notoriety at the the expense of her son's good name and reputation. The rest of the Sheehan Family supports the troops, our country, and our President, silently, with prayer and respect.

Sincerely,

Casey Sheehan's grandparents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins."

And of course her husband filed divorce under "unreconcilable(sp?) differences" Otherwise known as the bitch is a certified nutter.

:dunno: I was just pointing out Tuggan's ignorance and lack of understanding of something very, very basic. Yes, Sheehan actually thought she was going to convince Bush, through her media coverage, that he should speak with her. She said so on several occaisions. Stop being stupid Kizzy, and accept the fact that you, and Tuggan, are seriously wrong on this. If you want to keep going I will be happy to continue proving you wrong. Othewise, you need to shut up... seriously.
