Well in 9 years anyway.
Not impressed by TC's website... Every single UFC ever televised proves that karate is an outdated form of combat... I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a brown in Karate... both of them useless on the street. Luckily I have also grappled and boxed and the combination of the two proves to be effective.Welcome to Tommy Carruthers.com!
Tommy Carruthers is dedicated to developing scientific street fighting principles using original Jeet Kune Do, as developed by Bruce Lee.
At Tommy Carruthers International Martial Arts Organisation, we believe in keeping things simple, direct and realistic.
Our goal is to teach the martial art the way it was intended to be taught- for self defence. We are only interested in practical self defence techniques that work in real life situations. We know that Bruce Lee's martial art should have no shape or form. But we also believe that students need a starting point and we see no better starting point than using techniques from Bruce Lee's modified Wing Chun, boxing and fencing.
Later on, our students are encouraged to strip away the unessentials and really train the essentials, without any telegraphic motions. We actively avoid using complex techniques that can hinder or slow you down. We see no point in using two moves when you can use just one.
We are convinced that the mechanical principles of Bruce Lee's fighting method are as valid today as they were when Bruce was alive. For example, the shortest distance between two points is STILL a straight line!
Here at Tommy Carruthers.com, we are committed to daily decrease.
"Walk on" -Bruce Lee
I trained in a very similar street fighting martial art before learning to box and grapple, much of which was based upon arts like Jeet Kune Do.

Sorry charlie... JKD is nothing more than oversimplified Kung Fu or karate. They have taken away the fancy kicks and ornate bullshit but it is still ineffective against the modern day fighter.
Fights start fast and in your face and most of the time end up on the ground. You can train JKD all you want and look pretty nifty with your fast moves just like Bruce Leeroy but that shit isn't going to work.
I really do love using the UFC as a basis for all these "effective" martial arts. Anyone seen someone win a match in the last 10 years with anything based off of kung fu, Karate or these so called street fighting arts? Hasn't happened. The fights are ugly, lack finesse but completely effective.
