There will soon be a "not a classic server" server. This server will begin with only the original game unlocked at first. As groups or guilds defeat certain triggered encounters, new expansions will become unlocked. It will be a no-transfer server so everyone is starting off at the beginning of the game. All the new non-expansion features will be there like chat channels, LFG, and new UIs, but features such as Plane of Knowledge won't be active until that expansion is unlocked. All of those who have screamed on the forums for months about a "classic server" will now get their chance to put their money where their mouth is. It sounds pretty interesting and SOE is expecting it to be popular. With some core features removed that we take for granted these days like the Guild Lobby, Nexus, Knowledge, Bazaar, and LDON Magi, it will be interesting to see how much old-world people are willing to take.
That's a good idea. I'd like to know more about it.
Yep I saw that on eqstratics as well. I'm definitely going to try that, hopefully it will come out soon. WoW is boring me to tears, mostly due to their server stability.
I don't think they will open as quickly as you think. Im going to give it a try, I will be expecting it to open up to velious/luclin pretty fast then slowing way down due to needing to gear up.
I think I saw the original post on castersrealm, and the poster said no eta so it will probably never happen knowing sony
Unfortunately, what people going into this server are looking for is that "old feeling" of newbishness. Traveling through kithikor at night, 3 hour CR's at level 7, etc. But in reality everyones been through the game and it will become a race just like every other new server. I'm hoping it proves me wrong, it would be very interesting to see Camp checks in East Commonlands and SolB again. Along with the Baz in EC tunnel. It sounds like a good idea but obviously the mentality won't be there.
I dunno, getting to 50 in all old world zones without a pocket druid and 8/24 weapons will take longer than you'd think. No monster missions or jacked up XP zones like RSS.
I loved the idea when I first heard it, but after thinking about it, its just the same ole thing. You'll dick around and have fun for the first 15 levels or so, then the xp will start slowing down and be a grind, especially when your only choices for xp are sol a, unrest, sol b and guk.
...then you'll want to start getting ahead and killing naggy and vox and have to join raid guilds, then you're back doing what you just quit doing on your old server where you have a level 70 assbeater with 15000 hp. Yay.
Fin It took us like 4 months to key everyone for emp, and another 4-5 months to key everyone for VT. Keying one person for VT is easy, sure, but you still have to take months to key everyone for emp to get the piece off of him and such.

Sorry if you were several expansions behind the rest and you didn't have to deal with people competing for the mobs that drop the shards... no competition makes it not hard at all.
Great idea, but leveling up yet another toon just isn't worth the time.
I'd doubt that it will progress as fast as you'd all think though - most powergamers would probably shy away from the server past a certain point. I'd guess raid progression would be pretty similar to FV and RZ servers: not nearly as fast as the normal ones.
