Same argument can be made for Japan too - the difference is we drive every where. 5 bucks a gallon to someone living in Japan is meaningless because their cities are so compact they can walk or use public transportation to get to where they need. This isn't so in most of the US. Yeah, in places like NY you could get away with not having a car, but try that in the mid-west and see how far you get.

Our country is far more spread out than Europe and Asia to use that "we'll we're lower than most of the world." It didn't work then and it doesn't work now.

Oh and did anyone else hear the news today that big oil is already showing record profits this year... haha let me go ahead and say it now.

Suddenly, something completely evolutionary and off tangent will completely break Big Oil and it'll disappear quicker than manufacturing jobs in the heartland.

Perhaps if we quit cowtowing to Iowa and their dink population who decide Presidents in an idiotic manner, and removed the large Ethanol Tariff and mass imported it cheaply from Brazil we could begin to have real competition in fuels.

Well even I don't pray for lower gas prices, and you know I'm not shy about praying. Thing of it is, you don't even know what high fuel costs are yet. Gasoline prolly shoulda been $3.00 a gallon 10 years ago. You're lucky you live in the US of A you've lived a sheltered life, til now.

I'm just a fragment of what went before you, but I know things you don't yet know. I don't pray for lower gas prices, I pray that people will be elightened to the truth about why they are suddenly higher. I pray that people will take it upon themselves to move this world forward for every human being, not just a privileged few. sorina I don't understand your post. maybe I do, but I feel a little lost-are you basically saying that the reason prices are higher is because we are running out of resources? (I'm asking for clarification)

In my state, this is going on http://www.charleston.net/stories/?newsID=82823&section=stateregion and because I don't really know what this will mean for us, (in SC) I just wonder if they're willing to drill anywhere, (because we're running out?) What it does to the environment is enough for it to not get my vote...but I suppose they make it look attractive enough to those who don't care about the environment (jobs, etc...)

again I could be way off course here, but I just realized it when I read it in the paper so I've been looking into it since. noone seems to be talking about it

No Araby I'm saying exactly what I said. Oil production on the planet has reachhed it's peak. There is no more oil that we can get to that can be produced. All the oil on the planet that can be produced is being produced right now. The producers of oil realise this and we're at a time where we need to make a change. I'm not talkin bout us tree huggin hippies. I'm talking bout the $1000 wearing italian suit boys from Exxon, Bechtel and Halliburton.

Look it up, do some research. The days of petrochemical products are numbered and they know what the numbers are. This is the new world. I know it's a shock to you, but if you were my age it would be no shock at all. Only a dissappointment that we didn't move on this 30 years ago. Never mind that, it's your world now. Oil companies will milk the cash cow til it runs dry, and then we'll be forced into some sort of alternative fuel. The people it will hurt most are the ones who can't afford to buy a new car that uses it. Of course, those are the same people who are always hurt the most by capitalism, so i'm sure they are used to it.
