What? Fighting for the people? Are you serious?

Denying Pell Grant increases, refusing to give schools more money, taking away Veteran's benefits, giving tax breaks to the rich, doing NOTHING as our jobs are sold off to the lowest bidder, doing nothing to stop illegal immigration.... that's all in the best interest of the American people? Shall I go on listing all the wonderful things this GOP dominated government has done for the people of this land?

Come on Mindia, I may have given you a lot of shit over the past couple of weeks - but I KNOW you're not that dumb.

If I still lived in CT, he would have my vote again without a 2nd thought. I have a lot of respect for him as a senator who actually puts what he things are right above party lines.

You're picking and choosing, and leaving out the pertinent points. You haven't given me any shit over the last couple of weeks. You tried, but I lol'd at the attempts.

Refusing to give schools more money? Schools around here just got a pile of money. Giving tax breaks to the rich? lol right. Doing nothing to stop illegal immigration? ROFL. Do you have a TV or radio? OMG.

Yes, the conservative party does more for the best interest of the nation and the people as a whole. Notice, I said as a "whole." That means of course that some people who view things differently will not be a part of that "whole." Boo freakin hoo. Here's some Kleenex...

What I said about the conservatives is true and accurate. What you said about them is exaggerated and some is even bullshit.

I think he'd argue that the ones doing that aren't real conservatives.

A good friend of mine is highly conservative, used to be a staunch republican. Ever sinc Bush has been in office though, he's split from the party basically completely. The reason, as he puts it, is that they seem to have forgotten that conservatives are supposed to CONSERVE something. All these clowns have done is erode civil liberties, generated the largest national debt in the history of the country, etc. etc. etc.

BTW, do remember when you talk about Murtha, that the man was one of the most respected vocies on national defense in the entire congress, until he dared speak out against the war. He was a marine from 52 to 90, starting out as an enlisted man, later a Drill Instructor, before being sent to OCS, and later served on active duty in Vietnam. Historically, he was actually one of the most hawkish of the democrats as well. Hell, he even gets an A+ from the NRA. I don't particularly like the man, he's anti-abortion and sponsored the anti-flag-burning amendment, but I respect his knowledge on military issues.

As for what Gore would have done if he'd been in office on 9/11? I think he'd have invaded Afghanistan, I have little doubt of that. Honestly though, I don't think 9/11 would have happened at all if he'd been president. Remember, Bush & Co ignored the threat, and didn't listen to the warnings. (at least according to Clarke, who I believe more than I do the denials out of Bush's camp) Clinton and Gore took those threats a lot more seriously.

Soooo, Mindia let's examine what the VOTING record shows here.

Before that let's talk about what the Founding Fathers intended... since you felt it necessary to bring that up. Yes, I am QUITE sure that the founding fathers intended for us to INVADE countries that had nothing do with attacks on our soil to FORCE democracy on them. Or, did you forget that an independent investigation found that Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11.

Now, let's go on to talk about your claims.

The GOP (aka Republicans, Grand Oil Party, Nazis, Fascists, whatever) have VOTED FOR - giving tax breaks to big oil and for dividends. Yeah... I know... sooooo many American's own stock.. riiight. Those that do, don't own enough for such a break to fucking matter in the first place.

People working to better themselves who may need some extra money for college tuition can't get an increase, because the GOP - who you pointed out care oh so much about the average person - voted the resolution DOWN. They also shot down increasing funds for schools and for the disabled.

The very veterans that are being sent do fight for us are coming back to REDUCED benefits.

Ohh, you mentioned respect for the seniors of this country, remember. Yeah, well according to the voting record they [GOP] voted down protections for access to script drugs.

They're soooo concerned about the American family that they voted DOWN a bill that would have giving money to help educated teens about abstinence... yeah - they want to ban abortion (which I am for), but don't want to spend a penny on helping educate teens on how to avoid getting preg in the first place.

Do I really need to go on? Are you just going to IGNORE what they have voted down - issues that would have HELPED the people of this country? Of course you are... because they have you convinced that they love Jesus... even though anyone with half a fucking brain cell knows their one true God is the almighty DOLLAR.

Yeah, they're doing a great job on immigration! It wasn't until public pressure got to great to ignore that they actually started taking it serious. They had NO intentions of removing that massive source of CHEAP labor from the hands of their "base" otherwise called illegal immigration.

The symptoms of conservatism... tunnel vision and denial.

Arlos,

Murtha loses my respect when he starts catagorizing our troops as murderers and terrorists.

Standing opposed to the war is fine - I have no issue with that. Our troops, however, are not terrorists, or murderers.

Some of them are quite probably murderers, or haven't you heard about the Haditha investigation, which found that yes indeed, there is significant evidence that that unit just slaughtered civilians with no cause?

Or how about the rape & murder trial that is curently ongoing, where a bunch of people raped an iraqi chick, killed her and her family, then dumped kerosene on the body and torched it to try and cover their tracks?

No, certainly not ALL the troops are, that's obvious, but SOME certainly are, and those few bring shame and dishonor on the entire military force and DO represent the average american military person to the people of the area. So they SEE the troops as rapists and murderers.

BTW, did extensive searchign on Google and can't find anywhere where he calls our troops Terrorists. The only time I can fidn him talking about Murder is in reference to haditha and that rape/murder case. Both of which the evidence supports his claims that the people involved WERE murderers.

why can't we elect a President that is wise, smart, brave and true? why can't we have a military that protects our country with intelligence, security, and strength of our borders that does not, can not, and will not be infiltrated by polititians? why is President Bush responsible for finding the terrorists and smoking them out of their holes anyway? Leave it to our military. why isn't this the way things are?

The GOP doesn't deny anything unless there is a very good underlying reason for it. If you're going to post a bill, measure, initiative, etc. then post it in its entirety, not just portions of it. There will most likely be a line in it that fouls the whole thing up, which is why the GOP denied it.

It doesn't matter about pressure for the public about illegal immigration. The freakin point is that something is being done about it, because of the conservatives. That's the bottom line. Strong laws are being imposed to stop business owners from hiring illegals. National guard troops are now helping protect the border with Mexico. A freaking wall will be going up soon. Democrats would have done nothing.

Tunnel vision and denial... bitch please. ROFL

Clinton knew enough to give the Bush administration detailed information saying that his top security priority should be Bin Laden. What did Bush do? Completely ignored him in typical Republican "I know better than you attitude".

The Clinton administration was completely on top of the Bin Laden situation. It was when the government got handed off to Monkey Face that everything went to shit. Things worked out well for him though, he got the war he was looking to get into since the day he took office, and it only took 3000 lives.

The Clinton administration did nothing to even pause Al Qaeda and Bin Laden. Quite the contrary, by screwing over our inteliigence budget and gutting our military intel branches he made 9/11 not only more likely, but easy.

The Clinton Administration sucked ass on the Bin Laden/Al Qaeda front. This despite the Cole and World Trade Center bombing from 1993, they still did NOTHING.

All we're left with from that administration is Sandy Berger sneaking Top Secret Documents out and destroying them so people can't find out the truth, and Bubba joking about it.

Funny, cause even with his gutted intel branches he still knew enough to give Bush proper warning about Bin Laden. Didn't do anyone any good though, since Bush completely ignored him.

ROFL

You have internet access. Actually look up the amendments to the bills that were referenced. The descriptions that were given for each amendment come directly from http://www.senate.gov. Unless you consider that a bias source.

Funny, cause even with his gutted intel branches he still knew enough to give Bush proper warning about Bin Laden. Didn't do anyone any good though, since Bush completely ignored him.

Yes, it took a stroke of genius to point out a group that bombed the World Trade Center, and one of our USS Ships might be dangerous.

So, the guy who knew and did nothing for 8 years about a terrorist group long planning bigger and bigger attacks did a brilliant job in your perspective, and valiantly and nobly was on top of things. You did ignore my simple and obvious perspective regarding national and military intelligence gutting, which again aided and moved forward this threat. CBC Spin central doubtless missed that.

It's ok. Clinton had those scary terrorists in Waco to deal with, so ignoring Al Qaeda and dumping it on the next Prez 8 years later was fine.
