It depends on the aspect ratio of your TV and what aspect ratio the film was made in. Most films fill up a 16x9 format TV but some are still filmed in a "wider" aspect ratio and will still produce a slim border on the top and bottom of the screen to avoid cutting off any of the footage on either side.

Blow to HD-DVD when Blockbuster sided with Bu-Ray. Totally stupid decision on their part. It's WAY too early to choose sides like that. They should have waited another year or two for more titles to be released and for the market share of players to grab more than .0000001%. So far there are less than 2 million combined HD players sold including PS3's and Xbox360 add ons and there are less than 1000 combined HD movie titles available between both formats.

It will be another year before it becomes clear what format is outselling what.

Doesn't matter at all to me. I'm not buying either one of them, I refuse to get into the whole vhs/beta/laserdisc battle with them. Besides, standard dvd is fine with me.

Yeah I caught that article too. First thing I thought of was this thread and if I'd have to eat my words LOL.

Lots of time before it is all said and done though.

I'm not sure of their presence back in the beta days as I didn't follow the shit like I do now, but it isn't like Sony doesn't screw up and screw up big.

BTW, welcome back tikker :)

They have the catalogue to make a large amount of DVD's that very few people will buy. Again, they will try to force a proprietary format on people and they will end up barely breaking even if not losing money.

Beta, minidisk, memorystick, blu-ray... fuck Sony.

I don't think blockbuster decision is the death knell to HD-DVD since the porn industry is using the format exclusively.

This is actually pretty acurate on how the average consumer thinks.

Blu-ray players will consist of almost exclusively PS3's and Sony PC's. HD-DVD or cross format players will be the standard for most other PC's and just about all other stand alone players.

I actually watch porn with my girlfriend and DVD's are great. If you ever stumble upon a sexual partner, you might understand the concept.

Didn't want to make a new thread so -bump-

By no means is that a KO punch to HD-DVD but it appears HD-DVD is on its deathbed.

Much h8 to Sony :badrazz:

Your statement is still 100% false as they don't own anywhere near 45% of all movies made and Blu-Ray is nowhere near mainstream yet. They hold a less than 1% market share at this point and time is running out for HD media to take hold.

We already had this fucking conversation months ago.

You were wrong then and are still wrong.

MGM dropped Sony as their distributer a year later because they didn't meet the requirements of the contract. Sony owns 20% of MGM but lost all rights to distribute their home media market to Fox.

Sony did for a short time have ACCESS to MGM's back catalog but never OWNED it and now don't even have access to it anymore as ALL home video distribution is done through Fox.

Do you comprehend now?

Game, Set, Match! Well played, Toshiba!

Netflix is going Blu-ray only, too.
