a lot of that is just wasted space, though - people own acres and acres of land and do nothing with it but go 4 wheeling, which is all good and well - good for them for having all that space, but it shouldn't be viewed as necessary land needed for feeding the country. i lived in a town of 1100 people.. everyone had at least an acre, and it took 20 minutes to get to the grocery store - dead land in between that was used for nothing but looking pretty. I don't much consider that overpopulated.
you look in areas like NY, southern florida, california suburbs, chicago.. yes, those are horrendously overcrowded, but by people who choose to live in those areas and typically love the city life.
i'd certainly rather someone from another country who wants more than anything to live here be able to migrate over here than susie openlegs who pops out another baby on welfare. people who legally migrate over here DO want to be over here, because as the process is, no one would go through it unless it was of great importance to them. foreigner who appreciates the country for what it is > random american born shmuck who thinks the world owes them something.
