i cited the unintuitive itunes interface and apple's proprietary nature. i don't like that i have to go through itunes to put music on my shuffe.

as for the hardware, i really dig ipods. i just wish i could plug it in and drag-and-drop files like i do with a USB drive or suchlike.

in comparison reviews that's about the only downside to ipods is their reliance on the itunes architecture. i agree that it should be more compatable, but i also don't see the need for 17,000 different media players. all of this crap does the same exact stuff. the only difference is how you go about it. and for that exact same reason, people love the itunes set-up, because it's basically closed-circuit

i don't agree that's it's unintuitive tho. i don't know how it could be any simpler. you manage everything right in front of you. you don't have to open up seperate windows or go into another area of the program to manage your library. after you spend 10 minutes to set it up how you like it it's probably the easiest program i could ever think of. which is why i support it so much. ease of use

as far as having to use itunes to put music on your player i just don't see the point of that concern. you drag and drop from the itunes window or you drag and drop from the folder window. what's the difference?

bottom line: different strokes. no one program/player is better or worse than another. we all have preferences and there's no need to deride someone about those preferences. we can all say "I THINK MY WAY IS BETTER, NYAH!!" until we're blue in the face but that's not going to persuade anyone one way or the other. this is devolving into one of those threads where joe thinks angelina jolie is hot but bob doesn't and therefore joe calls bob a homo or whatever. people have different tastes, and different things appeal to us for myriad different reasons. i think it's silly that we're all up in each other's business about this--EVERYONE, not just you.

bingo. it's that tricky "personal opinion" thing again. all i've ever said since my first post in this thread is that IN MY OPINION.... blah blah blah. until alex started taking it personally and i wrote "you guys are just newbs, that's all. one day you'll realize what you're missing", laughed about it and told him to decide if i was serious or not. apparently he thought i was serious. lol

actually, i believe that in telling you to get a firewall, he was choosing to believe that you were not serious and that an 8th grader had hacked your computer :boots:

at any rate, everybody needs to chillax, man.

you realize there's more than 1 archos model, yes? probably not

you also realize archos had touch screen models out YEARS before the ipods did, yes? probably not

you realize that some archos models are portable DVRs, yes? probably not

you realize that archos was a video player 3-4 years before iPods could do more than grayscale? probably not

seriously you fucking douche, at least go to the companies website before you turn your snotty little nose up

someone told you the iPod was the cool one, and you can't see past that

shocking

i have a archos av 500 its about 3 years or so old now and i still use it all the time

bring it with me on trips and use it as a storage dump for my digital camera photos as well as mp3 player/video player

the newer ones can be used as a media center remote of sorts and stream video to your tv or take the video from your tv and stream to your archos. so yes ipod touch does the same thing but about a year later and with much less storage space there is all this proprietery shit of having to use quicktime for video and of course itunes (ok there are programs that get around this but that is something EXTRA you have to do). archos can be used as a mass storage drive with drag and drop files versus having to start a crappy music manager . there is something very cool about hooking up the archos to the hotel tv and watching a movie that you want to see. if you want something smaller archos also makes pocket size ones but you really dont want to watch video on those

1) yes i realise archos is a european manufacturer of a lot of electronics not restricted to portable media players

2) can't argue this point. it's probably true. my digital organizer when i was in highschool had a touchscreen

3) seriously? nusk said it was a DVR in his first post. and since you're too fucking retarded to read all my posts before you make a fool out of yourself, i'll tell you again: i would buy an archos just for that feature

4) yeah, right. a quick trip to wikipedia shows that archos had video with GMINI in 2004 and ipod put video in in 2005 almost one year later to the date

5) again. seriously? nusk already posted their website. which i already looked at. looks like you haven't really read anything around here at all, though

6) wow i got a two-year-old ipod for christmas after being a hater just like you since they came out. i just can't see past the bullshit, man!

/shrug I bought my iPod 4 or 5 years ago, before everyone started getting them just because I guess, and I havent had a single problem out of it. Havent even had to replace the battery in it. I dont carry it with me thought, very rarely do I do that. Its always plugged up in the truck with one of those FM transeiver things or whatever they are. that was a well spent 50 bucks for that thing. I havent listened to our shitty radio stations in years thanks to that thing. I use iTunes too because Im not picky like it seems like some of you are. It works for me just fine, so I use it. I dont even use my computer to listen to music. Just for the internetz and putting music on the ipod.

And Im still trying to figure out what people are talking about with the "no click and drag" thing in iTunes. I just plug mine in, go to the library, and click and drag the songs I want onto the Ipod icon thing on the left /shrug. So im not sure what the big deal is
