It's driving her up a wall. She's really happy that's she's pregnant and wants a child, but she can't stand sitting around and doing nothing.

So we went to dinner at a friends and she asked for a glass of wine. I told her she couldn't have it despite the doctor saying she could have 1 here and there and she lost her shit on me and made a scene saying I don't have to change any plans meanwhile she has to cancel just about everything that she likes doing. Not sure how to proceed here.

is there not a happy medium here? i mean, yeah, i would skip the competitive kayaking and mountain climbing, but she can still run or take aerobics classes and lift weights and swim and yada yada. there are so many fitnessy things she can do that are not EXTREME. obviously clear it with the doctor first, but there's no reason--unless she has a higher-risk pregnancy--that she should have to cut out so much physical activity. a chick i worked out with regularly at my old gym was working out in full hard-core bootcamp classes until the week before she gave birth. /shrug

also, yeah, she can totes have a glass of wine from time to time. i probably would've gotten mad, too.

I think she was having a bad day more than anything and that was the last straw. I've read that while it's not super harmful, that medical practitioners recommend pregnant women abstain from alcohol entirely and if there's even a .000001 % chance of any foul shit happening I'm not gonna take that risk with my child. We just had the argument a few minutes ago and it wasn't the wine that was a problem, it was me treating her like a kid and I apologized. We both agreed that she wouldn't drink during her pregnancy at all and that when she asked for the glass of wine it was more like a "whoops, forgot I was pregnant" thing more than anything and she didn't like that I sounded a certain way when I said no.

As for her hobbies, I mean, we found out she was pregnant like a week or so ago so we're still learning what's good, what's not and so far all we've done is cancel a lot of shit she has coming up and haven't added anything to the list yet. She just got into a pilates and yoga class and I'm gonna do these nature walk, hiking things with her too (shoot me).

I would let her do what she normally does as long as it's within reason. Chicks are built for carrying babies and keeping them safe, and as long as she doesn't take up MMA, she'll be fine. Hormones are going to make her a tad crazy. A glass of wine will not hurt her at all, btw. In fact, probably the opposite.

Ha, if you think her hormones are bad now, wait until the baby is a few months old and she goes through the real Jeckyl and Hyde act.

ah, that makes sense. well, for what it's worth, if she already had a super awesome fitness level built up with all of the extreme activities, then she should be fully able to continue with moderate exercise throughout the pregnancy. she just needs to be smart and listen to her body (and her doctors). mazel tov!

One glass of wine is not going to harm the baby. Having her stress out about a glass of wine does more harm to the baby.

Hell, some of us here are probably old enough where they had parents that drank and smoke everyday while pregnant, and we're all normal. :bangin:

I'm wrong. So is the surgeon general and the CDC.

While I'm aware a glass of wine a week isn't enough to panic over, I'd rather just eliminate any factors within our control period. She agreed to stop drinking during the pregnancy and doesn't have any issues with it since she hardly drinks as is. I'll have to just agree to disagree with you guys and trust the surgeon general on this one.

As for being hormonal, I don't think that's happened yet. Anything that's happened so far is just cuz she's Sicilian :P. I was being a dick to her in front of our friends and that was the issue, not the drinking itself.

You're going to have to let things like this slide. It's going to get worse before it gets better. My girlfriend was unreasonably irrational to the degree of I had no idea who she was sometimes. I'm a patient man, so it wasn't a big deal but it was a lot of unnecessary stress on top of the other issues. It's just part of the package. She doesn't even know she's doing these things.

The way I handled it was just let her do whatever she saw fit within the confines of reason. You can't really play the control card here, in my opinion, even in a small way. A pregnant woman is a scary thing rofl

Complaining about fitness on a board with a buncha fat pooter nerds? :bandit:

Anyways, I'm 43 and in better shape now than when I was 30. It's a struggle, though, but I spend a lot less time on the PC and more time doing stuff.

My new online radio station. It's going live in a couple of weeks. 24/7 programming, live DJ shows, etc. The focus is on "funky" music from the 60's-early 90's. Funk, soul, r&b, jazz, disco, old school hip hop, psychedelic jams, sound track, easy listening, etc.

On Sunday 9/30 6:45 pm my wife entered the operating room in St. Barnabus hospital in Livingston, NJ and came out of surgery on Monday 12:15am with a transplanted Kidney and Pancreas from a 28 yr old woman who was on life support for about a week on account of a motorcycle accident.

God bless her for checking off Organ Donor.

My wife hasn't had insulin since, she's been a Type 1 Diabetic since age 11, and today I finally packed away her peritoneal dialysis machine. Hopefully she'll be home by next Friday so our family can restart our lives.

The last 2.5 years have been hellish for all of us. This summer, my wife will finally be able to swim with her daughter for the first time. Which we're all excited about.
