Who is playing in the 7 day stress test?

Postby runamonk » Fri Sep 03, 2004 8:49 am

After playing for a couple hours last night I've come to the conclusion that I'll be picking up a copy of WoW when it's released.

Hell I can run around with everything maxed out, with 2000 retards in the newbie area and still not lag or jerk around is a big plus haha.

The screenshots really don't do this game justice, everything has a great flow graphic wise. I'm impressed.

I got the stress test too.

I'm still ambivelent atm. It's extremely visually appealling but I'm not sure it'll hold my attention. Gonna wait until I progress a few more levels to decide.

I'm amazed the servers haven't crashed. Just on the beta server with 2k people on it, 2 crashes a night are the norm.

Not as far as I know.....they limited the numbers of people to get in.

Thats pretty much how I feel after 40 levels. Good game, similar design to EQ, with a lot of things done much better.. But at the end of the day its the WOW version of EQ, and you can tell the Blizzard EQ addicts designed it.

If the game were released today, I wouldn't buy it, though. Despite being a very good game, it's still the EQ experience, and I've already done that in EQ and DAOC.

I need a few more levels to really get a feel for how it works. Right now it's pretty hard to get a good feel for the game because it's so crowded in the newbie areas. I do get the overall sense of EQ from it though. When winter hits and I can't ride my bike I'm going to need something to take up some of my time that's spent away from my other hobby, so this could be a good downtime thing to do. What's really going to matter is the high level content. How is that looking at level 40 Lyion? Are there quests and such similar in fashion to EQ, something that I can do on weekends and still get it done with friends or guildmates?

Got in myself. I am one of those peep's that played 4 years of EQ and never really tired of playing. I just tired of the "loss of feel" that the game had in it's early years. Even new experiences now in EQ feel like deja'vu and seem lifeless. I've been wanting something with the EQ feel, but with a fresh face. WoW just may do that for me as everyone starts from the beginning with the lack of twinks, exploits, and characters on their 5th and 6th owners.

I'm in the stress test... and loving it so far. The world has a feeling of MASSIVENESS - like EQ doesn't. Despite the size of EQ, I can't run in a straightline for 30 minutes... with no zoning and few hard boundaries to zonelines, it gives it a scope somewhere around "vast".

Level 12 tauren shaman at the moment... nothing special to note, really. Killed a couple of named MOBs - but those two were just tiny blips on the radar (although I still wear my Squeeler belt since it's a much cooler graphic than anything else I've seen so far... heh).

The Quests are phenomenal... quest after quest after quest... most take about 30-60 minutes to complete and many interlaced so that you can accomplish parts of one while completing another.

Unless something just sucks at the mid- or high-levels, this will be a nice replacement for EQ for me.

First, the game doesn't change radically as you level, but there are some VERY nice instanced dungeons, and some good quests. Many quests are the whack a mole variety, but there are others. You can make progress soloing, but its not nearly as fast as grouping, especially at higher levels.

A problem is if your friends play hardcore, and you don't, they'll vastly outlevel you. Levelling is quick, but gets more and more time consuming. Blizzard had a nice setup for casual gamers, and I hope they re evaluate the exp bonus, because as of now it does nothing to bridge the gap.

The EQ influence is very up front, and if you are looking for EQ done right, then WOW delivers, hands down. The quests are good, levelling is <was> simple, and the game through the 40s is based on small group combat.

I'm guessing that the endgame will be similar to the Epic Encounters we went through in EQ, with twists and turns. The designers are pretty much hardcore PVE people, and so PVP does not seem to be a priority, nor is it being looked at much right now.

My gripe, which some agree with and others don't, is that this game is essentially EQ2 in the Warcraft Universe. Your goal is to acquire items, level from 1 to 60, go through dungeons and get a guild/group together to do the EQ thing.

I am an old school pen and paper guy. My preference is for an AD&D Clone game with more traditional classes, and a more D&D feel. Warcraft essentially takes much from EQ, but is in the Warcraft Universe.

I think WOW will replace EQ, DAOC, and AC for a lot of people, as it's a better made game than these. However, I'm at the point where I'm not looking for an EQ replacement.

It's a damn shame I can only play it for 5 more days. I'd LOVE to get ahold of a pure beta account. I am REALLY enjoying this thing so far. Being a fan of the Warcraft series, and long time player of EQ, this just may be the perfect game for me.

Priest is being a pretty fun class for me, and I've done some crazy shit like took a 15-17 group into a 20+ instanced area for an elite quest.. We did fine until some Ogre... ;p (this was in Westfall, some bandit hideout, maybe you know what it is)

I think I've given up on the level race for the competition in order to slow down and enjoy the game more, the first night I was a machine though, I logged 2 levels ahead of anyone else I saw ;p

This game makes me want to get back into the swing of things as far as online gaming goes. After three days im sold on WoW, and look forward to it being released. I've somewhat casually levelled a priest to lvl 11 since I started, and from the beginning, I knew there was no way I would win that contest (judging by the way ive seen people level from 60-65 when SoL was released, or even camp stuff in EQ - hi stormfeather).

Yeah - I'm jealous of the Hunter's pets. However, I am enjoying my shaman a lot, too.
