what trades do you do?

Postby Tae-Bo » Sun Nov 14, 2004 9:54 pm

i'm at like 120 leatherworking, it's cool to be able to outfit yourself with your own armor that's better than any of the stuff you've seen drop np

i'm at 50~ ish cooking but that seems to suck

what other trades do you all do and if someone got real high in leatherworking, is there any places you suggest fighting that goes well with it?

I am a warlock, so leather working doesnt work to well for me. I guess I could do tailoring, but when we first started, Taxx did the tailoring, so I picked up herbalism and alchemy. I love it. I love picking herbs, and then using them to make potions. I am at 258 in alchemy and like 270 in Herbalism. It is so much fun.

Problem with tradeskills is that it's not profitable. If you're doing it for yourself then it's ok I guess. Once they changed the tradeskills a few patches ago I dropped leather and tailoring and went to engineering. Talk about a money sink.

Tailoring is profitable if for nothing else other than bags... you can make a mint selling them to lowbies at less than the vendors sell for.

I, however, do herbalism, alchemy, and just started fishing.

Fishing sucks.

Sucks really, really, really bad.

Leatherworking kicks ass. I've been wearing all my own gear (with the occasional quest item thrown in) since the beginning, and it's a hell of a lot less tedious than, say, tailoring on EQ. 112 or so so far... trying to get my last 4 points in skinning to raise my rank, but it's not working too well ><.

Ok let me say this then "tradeskills aren't profitable at high levels". Finding some of the stuff on your own involves either 1) grinding for items yourself or 2) paying too much for items in the auction house.

I guess if you have the time to grind rather than level up, it can be profitable...but you can still make more money from questing.

Mining is profitable. 3 Truesilver = 2gp as a general rule of thumb ;)

No comment on how many trains that may or may not have caused.

That's just as bad as SOME PEOPLE who randomly run off during a battle to pick herbs.

ha ha! I know that was directed at Kizzy & me, but I know someone even worse! I'm now actually able to play at the same time as my husband thanks to open beta, and talk about an herb whore - he'd leave me surrounded by mobs in a heartbeat if that little yellow dot showed up on his screen. This is almost an exact quote - "What? I left you my pet to help you out." :)

Like you don't chase down every corpse to see if it is skinnable. And I think a better quote would be "Ooh flowers!"

Yes, we've been enjoying the lag-fest. Every time I've popped on closed beta, no one else has been on, so typically I just logged back out again.

There are quite a few people from Nameless playing on TEst 10 I heard. I might have to go check it out. I tried last night, but I was 225th in line, and only had an hour to play.

I've been doing tailoring mainly, but for a second one I went with enchanting. Has anyone else really worked with this yet? Any thoughts? So far all I can gather is that its expensive and the materials seem like they are a little hard to come by.

It is expensive, but I think enchanters are probably the richest people in the game. You can do fiery weapon enchants for 30g and +4 damage enchants for 15g....crazy.

Even some of the lower enchants still sell for like 50silver. I remember paying 50 silver for a 20 hp chest enchant.
