I'll say two things and then unless Mindia spouts off some more really uneducated drivel I won't be responding to this thread any more:

1) I will give Mindia credit for being stalwart. Despite his hypocrisy, he doesn't change his tune.

2) Mindia has made the ultimate mistake in any conflict, he has alienated those people who could potentially be considered compatriots. You will never win an argument against a group of people if you're alone. By posting stupidity that puts the other conservatives on this board at odds with him, he's going it alone... and he will fail to present his point, ever. He will be to caught up in damage control and response to flames, instead of having a "team" of people with which to rally.

I agree with 1.
But you know, there is no way "win" a religious debate. There is NO way to prove either side. It's all in faith. When people will get this, they will stop arguing. In the meantime, it's just arguing for the sake of arguing, and my point was, God isn't really asking you to do that.

This is very funny, especially coming from someone who claims to have been brought up in the Catholic church. It's too bad you were sleeping during "mass" instead of paying attention.

It is nearly impossible for a person to participate in every sacrament. Simply because you didn't does not imply you're going to hell.

Wrong. If you're a good catholic you will adere to EVERY sacrament, and go to "mass" every Sunday, otherwise you are destined to go to hell.

Furthermore, you're not being forgiven for your sins by the Priest, he is acting as an intermediary for God - as a Pastor of his church shepherding his flock, so to speak.

Too bad other Catholics don't share that same belief as you. Catholics believe that confession through intercession is the ONLY way to confess your sins to God. What does the Bible say? It says to confess to the Lord, with your own mouth, your sins, and to ask for forgiveness... not telling some bozo in a booth.

The entire rite of Confession is not about you visiting the Priest - it is about opening a dialogue with your Pastor to provide you guidance and advice into how you can attempt to remove sin from your life and keep to the course of holiness.

Bullshit. It is about confessing your sins to a "priest" and he is acting as a mediator between YOU and God. This practice is NOT in the Bible, fool.

Too many people don't understand that and think that the Priest has some special "power" to forgive sin. He does not. God does. It is acceptable and encourage for all Catholics to pray regularly to God and ask forgiveness for their sins... it is NOT mandatory to do so "through" a priest.

Yes they do think that. They are so brainwashed to the point that they think the priest can absolve them of their sins.

Catholics do not practice idolatry. The cross on some Protestant's necklace is no different than the statues of Christ in a Catholic church.

Um, we've been over this before. The cross is a symbol of Christ's sacrifice for us. A statue is an idol. God expressly forbids idolatry. What do you find in a Catholic church? IDOLS GALORE. And idols with the fold-down knee pads in front of them. I've been to a few "masses" before, many years ago, and I walked into a Catholic church earlier this year. I felt dirty... I felt like I was in a paganistic temple.

Transubstantiation is exactly that: the conversion of the bread and wine into the actual Body and Blood of Christ. The priest doesn't perform some "magic" that makes it happen - God, himself, brings about the change. This is probably the most difficult thing any non-Catholic can understand or accept, yet it is fundamental in the core beliefs of Catholics. If you have issue with this, then I'm not going to argue with you. Either you have the faith to believe it, or you don't. If you don't... more power to you.

This is the biggest problem non-Catholics have with Catholics. Holy Communion is symbolic. If you believe your priest has the power to convert your little "wafer" into God, and the wine into the actual blood of Christ, then I really do feel sorry for you. In the "Offertory", the priest offers the wafer and wine. Then comes the Preface... a prayer of praise, followed by the Sanctus, a prayer of joy, a cry of welcome to the Lord who will enter the wafer. (lol) Roman Catholics believe that it actually becomes the blood, body, soul and divinity of Christ, and it must be worshipped as God. Then comes the Consecration... this is the highlight of the "Mass." This is when the wafer supposedly becomes God. The wine is also consecrated, supposedly becoming the actual blood of Jesus. The priest, with his "magical" powers turns the wafer into the Lord Jesus himself. Now whether you want to admit it or not (as ridiculous as it sounds to you) this is where Roman Catholics believe the priest is so powerful, he can pull Christ out of heaven, put him on the cross, and sacrifice Him again during "Mass." This "Holy Eaucharist" as they call it is then placed in a suburst design, called the "Monstrance." Then the good little Roman Catholics bow down and worship the wafer as "God." Who dreamed this crap up? The Egyptians called it "Osiris" long before the popes called it "Jesus." You know what is impressed into every wafer? The initials IHS. That stands for Isis, Horus, and Seb... ancient Egyptian Gods.

As far as the books of the Apocrypha go... who is Martin Luther to decide which books are "right" and which are "wrong". Frankly, I could say that Song of Solomon is borderline porn and has no place in the Bible... as do many others. Does that mean that that book of the Bible is heresy simple because I, a human with my own opinions, believe it to be so? The book of Revelations was (supposedly) written by John the Apostle... that's a pretty darn good source for scripture, frankly. Maybe you remember John... he was called the "beloved of Christ" and "Christ's favorite". Not really a good source of heresy if you were to ask me.

I'll give you this as a topic for further discussion and debate later on after I learn more about it.

Really Mindia, you claim to be so well aware and educated about these matters - to the point that you feel that you can belittle and ridicule others. However, you know very little more than they do. If you recall, Pride is one of the seven cardinal (deadly) sins.

I'm more educated about Catholicism than you think. In fact, I'd venture to guess I know just as much about it as you. But the difference is that I can easily pick out things the RCC does that is NOT in the Bible.

If your goal here is to educate and evangelize, you're doing a piss poor job of it. If your goal here is to attack, flame, and contend over topics related to your religion, you're doing a piss poor job of it. If, however, your goal here is to make yourself look like an ass and hide behind a faith that you regularly besmirch by your own words and actions, you're doing super! Keep it up!

I wish you actually knew more about your own religion than you actually do. If you know of these things, why continue them when you know they're not in the Bible? That's why I call it a cult. Because it is, and I believe the RCC is leading good people down the wrong path. In the end though, I think all that matters is that we love the Lord, Jesus and accept Him into our hearts. I just think that the RCC is so full of fluff and bullshit and they are deceiving people.

The only thing I have wrong with the Catholic masses is their chanting... I mean songs. I don't want a fucking drumset and guitar like some churches, but the Catholics need to sing some fucking uplifting music for once. Seriously, if I was feeling suicidal, I'd head straight to a Catholic mass because the droning that they call singing would easily be enough to push me over the edge.

Dude, are you completely out of your mind? Stop and think for a minute... you're telling a Catholic what Catholocism entails. You read a couple pages in a textbook and interpreted it one way; he, on the other hand, LIVES it. I think it's juuust a bit easier to understand what goes on in a Catholic church and what rituals are expected if you... ya know... went regularly.

I would never tell you with absolute certainty that God will only accept you if you eat a banana every day, or that should you ever take your shoes off before 5PM, then you're condemned to hell... because you would know for a fact, from your experiences with going to church and whatnot, that that's simply untrue. Not that my opinion is twisted, but that there's no truth to it whatsoever.

So how could you possibly presume to educate someone in their own denomination (one that you don't follow)?

Learn to accept defeat from time to time... you were wrong in this situation.

Wrong. Try again. For example, how can a person participate in both Holy Orders and Holy Matrimony. Also, if a person is lost at sea in a horrible boating accident, he did not receive Last Rites. Wrong, again. See my comments above. The practice doesn't have to be in the Bible. The Bible doesn't contain every rule by which we should lead our lives - both religious and non-religious aspects.

If by "people" you mean uneducated Protestants, like yourself, looking for a potshot at the Catholic Church, then I agree with that statement. Catholics know better.

You were doing so well in this paragraph, and then you said this... The priest does not have any "magical" powers. I've already said that. Holy Communion has *nothing* to do with Osiris, Isis, or any other Egyptian god or practice. I was raised a Catholic. I was educated as a Catholic. I am not a practicing Catholic. Regardless, I can still defend their faith as I am aware of it, knowledgable of it, and can defend my comments. You, on the other hand, are none of these things. You attack an entire faith, a faith that YOUR "church" is a descendent of, out of ignorance and foolish rhetoric. If the Catholic Church is a cult, and your Protestant faith is a schism from that cult, that must make you a sub-cultist. You don't even qualify as a full cult... you're a half-breed. That must suck.

He also pulled the book of Revelations out. Who's to say what the "original" Bible contained? Since you accept that 97% of the New Testament was altered by man, why is Luther any more holy than Clemente? Who gets to decide what is holy and what isn't? If you have absolute faith in YOUR Bible, and faith is good enough for YOU to justify the spotty history of the abridgments, why is faith not good enough for a Catholic?

If I have to refute each of your points Mindia with references, I will. May I make a suggestion, though?

Take a step back and simply say one thing, "I may not know as much about the Catholic church as I thought".

We can end it there, or I can proceed to post direct references to Catholic Documentation where it will point-by-point show that you are wrong. I will own you in this fashion if it is necessary for you to back down. I'd rather not, because, as a *former* Catholic, I really don't want to put that much energy into defending a religion I no longer even practice.... but I will, if necessary, to put you straight.

Wrong. If you keep going back to your same uninformed opinion on this, there's no way to argue the point. Check your facts... not your "memory". You're incorrect and uninformed again.

Mindia wrote:
The entire rite of Confession is not about you visiting the Priest - it is about opening a dialogue with your Pastor to provide you guidance and advice into how you can attempt to remove sin from your life and keep to the course of holiness.

Bullshit. It is about confessing your sins to a "priest" and he is acting as a mediator between YOU and God. This practice is NOT in the Bible, fool.

Wrong, again. See my comments above. The practice doesn't have to be in the Bible. The Bible doesn't contain every rule by which we should lead our lives - both religious and non-religious aspects.

Mindia wrote:
Too many people don't understand that and think that the Priest has some special "power" to forgive sin. He does not. God does. It is acceptable and encourage for all Catholics to pray regularly to God and ask forgiveness for their sins... it is NOT mandatory to do so "through" a priest.

Yes they do think that. They are so brainwashed to the point that they think the priest can absolve them of their sins.

If by "people" you mean uneducated Protestants, like yourself, looking for a potshot at the Catholic Church, then I agree with that statement. Catholics know better.

Mindia wrote:
Catholics do not practice idolatry. The cross on some Protestant's necklace is no different than the statues of Christ in a Catholic church.

Um, we've been over this before. The cross is a symbol of Christ's sacrifice for us. A statue is an idol. God expressly forbids idolatry. What do you find in a Catholic church? IDOLS GALORE. And idols with the fold-down knee pads in front of them. I've been to a few "masses" before, many years ago, and I walked into a Catholic church earlier this year. I felt dirty... I felt like I was in a paganistic temple.

So, an idol, per your definition, is a statue. That's about as stupid as it comes. I have no need to even discuss this point further. Come back with something better than that.

Mindia wrote:

For the most part that is pretty correct. As I said, either you believe it or you don't. If you don't, fine... no one is asking you to.

Mindia wrote:The priest, with his "magical" powers turns the wafer into the Lord Jesus himself.

You were doing so well in this paragraph, and then you said this... The priest does not have any "magical" powers. I've already said that. If you want to argue invalidity, be my guest, but I'll no longer respond to you. Educate yourself and argue something true or at least defensible. Holy Communion has *nothing* to do with Osiris, Isis, or any other Egyptian god or practice. That has to be the single-most STUPID thing I've ever heard a Protestant say as an attack agains the Catholic Church.

Mindia wrote:

No need for further discussion. I made my statement and my point on this.

Mindia wrote:
Really Mindia, you claim to be so well aware and educated about these matters - to the point that you feel that you can belittle and ridicule others. However, you know very little more than they do. If you recall, Pride is one of the seven cardinal (deadly) sins.

I'm more educated about Catholicism than you think. In fact, I'd venture to guess I know just as much about it as you. But the difference is that I can easily pick out things the RCC does that is NOT in the Bible.

You have made it quite obvious that you do not know as much about it as myself. Frankly, teenagers going through Confirmation classes are given better knowledge of it than you possess. Furthermore, I'm not here arguing over whether it's "in the Bible" or not... you made invalid statements about the Catholic Church - and I called you out on it. If you're excuse is that it's "not in the Bible" and that you fall back on that for your ignorant commentaries, then I have nothing further to say to you.

Mindia wrote:
If your goal here is to educate and evangelize, you're doing a piss poor job of it.

Wrong. Try again. For example, how can a person participate in both Holy Orders and Holy Matrimony. Also, if a person is lost at sea in a horrible boating accident, he did not receive Last Rites. Or - how about a child that dies before receiving anything other than Baptism? Is he going to hell, too? You're flat out wrong and uninformed.

A woman recieves the "Sacrament of Matrimony" when she marries a "baptized" (quoted because a Catholic baptism is not a Biblical baptism) Roman Catholic man in lawful marriage, witnessed by a priest. Let's not forget about the "Sacrament of Holy Orders" that applies only to men who carry out sacred duties such as bishops, priests, and other ministers of the Roman Catholic church. A good little Catholic must receive, on their death bed, the "Sacrament of the annointing of the sick", formerly known as "Extreme Unction." Why? So they can go to purgatory? What a dismal freakin future. Ephesians 2: 8-10 states, "For it is by Grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Wrong. If you keep going back to your same uninformed opinion on this, there's no way to argue the point. Check your facts... not your "memory". You're incorrect and uninformed again.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I am correct in this as well.

Wrong, again. See my comments above. The practice doesn't have to be in the Bible. The Bible doesn't contain every rule by which we should lead our lives - both religious and non-religious aspects.

Typical Catholic... totally brainwashed, former Catholic or current. It IS in the Bible you uneducated moron. 1 Timothy 2:5 "For their is one God, and one mediator between God, and men, the man Christ Jesus."

If by "people" you mean uneducated Protestants, like yourself, looking for a potshot at the Catholic Church, then I agree with that statement. Catholics know better.

I am more educated than you in Religion, obviously and second... I'm not taking "potshots" at the Catholic church. I'm pointing out obvious fallicies in their doctrine that even Ray Charles could see. You know jack shit.

So, an idol, per your definition, is a statue. That's about as stupid as it comes. I have no need to even discuss this point further. Come back with something better than that.

Exodus 20: 2-6 states, "I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. You shall not have other gods besides me. You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters beneath the earth; you shall not bow down before them or worship them. For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishment for their fathers' wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation; but bestowing mercy down to the thousandth generation, on the children of those who love me and keep my commandments."

You were doing so well in this paragraph, and then you said this... The priest does not have any "magical" powers. I've already said that. Tell me why then is a communion wafer engraved with the initials IHS? You know nothing of the history of your own church you pathetic little blind sheep. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

As far as the books of the Apocrypha go... who is Martin Luther to decide which books are "right" and which are "wrong". Like I said, we can talk about this later as I am currently researching it.

You're right, we don't need to converse any more because you know very little about your own Religion based on your posts and beliefs. I suggest you study it more so you at least sound competent and have at least a half-loaded weapon of truthful information.

Mindia - You know what... Fuck it. You just go ahead and post whatever you like. I'm done arguing with you. You need to learn that you don't know everything about anything - let alone everything about everything. You need to learn that, despite YOUR beliefs, there are people that are JUST AS sure that what they believe is True and that, as was already said, neither side can be proven.

Religion is the Everyman's creation. He can use it for peace, solitude, causa belli, resistance, whatever suits his fancy. He can believe in it to the depths of the core of his being or he could pay it simple lip service while shouting at the top of his lungs diatribes against "non-believers".

Religion is what a man makes of it. Faith and Belief just Are.

Is there a True God? I, personally, believe that there is. Will anyone be able to prove that He exists? Probably not. Will anyone be able to prove *which* god is True? Probably Never. Don't confuse Religion with Faith and Belief. They are two separate things. At the end of the day, faith and belief can't be argued and can't be impressed.
