Races in WoW...

Postby Tadpole » Sun Nov 21, 2004 8:24 pm

Are there different benefits for each different race, like EQ? Also, do you get to put in statistics, like AGI and STR, at the begining , and does each race have different starting statistics?

Thanks!

I only played one race, so I don't know about stats... but each race gets different racial traits. For instance, Undead (my choice, because they look damn cool) get a skill called Cannibalize, which lets you eat a humanoid corpse to gain 200% regen for somethin like 20 secs. Also, not every race can play as every class... each race gets something like 5 classes to choose from.

Pretty sure stats are carved in stone at the outset. Determined by race, or by class, or maybe a little of each. Believe you gain stats as you level, as well as from gear (of course).

Each race has special traits now as well, as discussed here: http://www.namelesstavern.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4576
Should be able to check out all of this info should be on the WoW mainsite, unless it's down again :P

Way back in like phase 1 of beta you used to be able to distribute points but they changed it so that it's automatic. Different races get different racial talents and abilities but most of them are useless. Really I'd just recommend to play whichever race you think is the coolest.

To me Tauren have the best abilities.

They have an extra 5% health which ever class can use and they have "war stomp" which is an AE stun for 2 seconds with a 5 min cooldown. The stun may not seem like much but its great for building AE agro with a Warrrior or Shaman.

Zan - warstomp has saved my ass a few times... I pop it and then cast a heal on myself. Works like a champ.

Taurens rock.

Orcs have an extra 5% damage for pets. (warlocks/hunters)

The others I don't care about...

Is it resistable?

I can see a nifty little tauren war stomp chain going on~

(I bet it's mostly untested at higher levels still)

Undead get to breath 3 times longer underwater, resist charm and fear for 20 seconds and canniblize which is terribly useless yay..no

Cannibalize needs a better animation... then I'd use it regardless of how useful it is.

It is resistable - and pretty easily resisted too. I regularly see yard trash resist it.

Taxx - I thought you just said that the racial traits are negligible... yet here you are saying "nerf! nerf!"... make up your mind boy!

MOST are negligible but there are a few that are either overpowered or others that are underpowered. I just know they will be tweaked more, that's why I'm not too worried about it.

Just do not be upset when they change it.

Perhaps it's their way of trying to turn people onto the horde

Or because the Alliance people already get more quests, waypoints, and trainers - so they balanced it by giving them relatively weaker traits?

Shadowmeld will get changed. Too many hunters abuse it.

Hunters are already scary in a pvp situation from what I hear...

I mean at 16 I killed a 25 priest solo...she could have just sucked, but it was still someone 9 levels above me.

I really am quite ignorant of all of the "other" races that play this game... Tauren has just been the only one that interested me.
