Crafting in Everquest II Discussion

Postby Captain Insano » Sat Nov 27, 2004 10:45 pm

Ok I am about to finish up my hallmark quest to get level 10 and become a scout.

There are also quests at this point to choose to become an artisan, or in other words choose your artisan class...

Now lets say I decide not to do these quests, and level up a bit...

Can I come back to them later so I can say become an armorer?

Is there any BIG downside to not touching crafting till later in the game?

Also what are some of the more important crafting skills?

I am thinking weaponry would be great since I am going to be a swashbuckler, or scholar so I can make combat ability upgrades and what not...

Any advice on this is appreciated. Please post your current experiences with your crafting.

Lastly, if this discussion actually turns out decent it might be worth a sticky.

You can ignore artisian totally, you can do that exclusivly, or you can do that and adventure at the same time.

Right now Alchemists are very needed because all the other classes except for provisioner need the stuff they make, you can also make your own poisons.

Yeah, if I could change from Outfitter to Scholar I would. Seems like everyone and their brother is doing armor and weapons.

Scholar it is... I really have very little interest in potions or poisons. I just don't like spending hours making something that disappears after 5 charges or whatever.

I just got an upgrade for Sneak (apprentice III) to be exact. The combat ability upgrades are the shizzle, so when I get into crafting I will be going that route.

hahah i just shitcanned my room at the inn... I kept the baby dragon though.

I tried poison out for the first time today... I must say i'm really impressed.

You use the poison, and it applies a 12 hour proc to your weapon. No more of that one shot one kill bullshit in EQ1.

I have heard that you get either 12 hours, or 100 procs out of it, but I have not confirmed this.

The current poison I am using does a back to back 5 dmg then 22 dmg proc.

At level 13, and considering it only copper me a silver that is a pretty nice increase in DPS.

I haven't bothered to see if they stack but I highly doubt it.

After this little discovery I have decided to hold off a bit. I am now torn between becoming a scholar or making poison.

Found a site. Not sure how comprehensive it is but it's a start.

Ralf, scholars MAKE poison.

That is, if you go alchemist at level 20 like me.

Level 1-9 is general artisans
Level 10-19 is Class such as Scholar, Craftsman, Outfitter
Level 20-50 is Subclass such as Alchemist, Sage, Jeweler.

In this case, everyone can make the same things level 1-9.
At 10-19 you can make everything that a scholar can make, but nothing from the other trees.

At 20 you can make everything a level 1-19 scholar can make and now will focus solely on Alchemy, Jewelry or Sage(ry)

Alchemists make lots of chemicals, potions, poisons and the skill upgrades for the fighter archetype.

Jewelers make Scout upgrades and jewelry, also they make the bottles for the poisons and potions (though they need an ingredient from the alchemists to do so)

Sages make Priest and mage scrolls.

Dinged 20 Alchemist last night.

PS I'm also a swashbuckler to be.

Speaking of crafting. Me and my girlfriend (formerly Veli/Shiraz if any of you remember her), have formed a dedicated artisan guild on Blackburrow. We were in a raid guild, but they sort of went nazi on release, so we left (sorry, not putting 40 fucking hours a week into a game upon threat of removal, fuck them lolz). Here is a link to our forums. Only have a few members, so no activity really, but some nice tradeskill links. Here ya go, link to forums :

She is already a 20th level jeweller. Im slacking cause I sort of find tradeskilling boring, but Ill take one for the team and level up eventually. Going weaponsmith I guess.
You were right Tikker. We suck.

Lvl 20 jeweler here as well
Few thing to think about...
Even if you dont sell anything to players trade skills profitable as long as you the person who gather resourses as a such choose wisely... As jeweler I dont need or want choping wood or trapping rats lol that why I did just mining and gathering. Try keep your harvest skill maxed just bear in mind if your adventure lvl far outlvl your artisan lvl you most likely will be forced into buying resourses from lower lvl players which is ok to a some point (say atm tier 2 resourses specially after lowering skill req for harvesting are abudant). If your artisan lvl far exceed your adventure lvl on coutary you'll forced to buy resourses from high lvl ppl and 20s its border line where comes separation so inability to harvest own raw material not convinient
Easiest to lvl up to subclass lvl I'd say scholars - due fact that you can do alchemy and w/o alchemy other skills not working (you need tempers, oils, resins)

You will never be barred from harvesting lower level material.

As your artisan level goes up your harvesting skill caps go up. You should never be forced to buy resources if you have the nerve to go get them for yourself.

Well look on it this way ...
As long as cost of raw material less then cost of time that I need to gather em - I'll buy - otherwise I'll harvest myself
At high 20s 1 gold its pretty much pocket change - so paying 10-20s per stack for tier 1 and 40-60s per stack of tier 3 imo perfectly fine by me. I rather go and do some exp grind for an extra hour or 2 then spend time this time for gather this shit

That's different then what you said at first. You made it seem like you could "grey out" harvestables to where you couldn't harvest them and would be "forced to" buy from others.
