You have obviously missed the entire point of the thread – so let me take a moment or two from my busy schedule to explain everything.

For one, no one is saying black folk deserve to be treated any differently than any other race. No one is saying whitey is superior, or anything of the kind.

I’m sure everyone here can list out a slew of names of black people who they know as intelligent, productive, law abiding citizens. People who are just as sick and tired of “da thug life” as everyone else.

Yes, over 200 years ago there were white people in this country who owned slaves. But, what you don’t know, or have chosen to ignore, that the abusive massa that has been popularized was actually far and few in-between. In fact after The War Between the States – a vast majority of former slaves STAYED with the plantations they worked on previously – only now being paid for their work. Let’s not forgot that American slavery wouldn’t have happened in the first place if AFRICANS hadn’t traded prisoners of war for goods. Now, does this forgive slavery? No. Slavery was, is and will always be an atrocity. Yet is still goes on today – but rather than hearing or reading about stories of slavery in the present we are forced to STILL focus on something that happened over two centuries ago that no one today had any part of.

Let’s fast forward a bit to the early 1900’s. Yep, Jim Crow was an idiot. What happened in the 60’s and before was wrong. We all know this. But, now we’re talking about damn near 50 years ago. A lot has changed since. The problem is that instead of looking back and saying, “My forefathers worked hard to give me the opportunities that I now have…” it’s, “my great grandmother had to sit in the back of the bus, so you owe me!”

This country has bent over backwards to give the black community opportunity after opportunity and yet rather than putting effort into said opportunities a great deal of them sit back, collect a welfare check, commit crime, trash entire neighborhoods, and blame whitey for all their woes. It has been a crutch, an excuse that has been played to death. If you’re black and murder someone for their wallet or purse – it’s because you’ve been held down in poverty because of the “da man.” Never mind that the money you stole went to crack, big screen TV’s, Xboxes, or rims for your hoopdy. Damn you have a right to that stuff!

Then we get to listen to how cops care more when a white person is killed than if a black person is killed. No, that’s not the case. The problem is that when the cops try to investigate the murder they get stone walled, “I diddn see nuffin,” “I aint helping dem cops do their job.” They bitch and scream when the cops don’t do anything, then kick them out of their hood when they try.

They use the excuse that they can’t find a job for committing crime. But, refuse to use proper English, refuse to get an education, yet expect to be hired and make as much as someone who does walk around saying, “yo what time it is?”

God forbid someone from the black community try to better themselves. They become an uncle tom… a sell out.

The opportunities are there… but when you have people condemning each other for trying to take advantage of those opportunities what are you supposed to do? If you don’t walk around talking like an uneducated moron, “yo B where you is?” and strive toward being a “baller” or a rapper – and get called a tom when you dare do anything different – how is that whitey’s or the government’s fault?

Hispanics come to this country and they work their assess off for little to nothing. Asians come to the US and work hard starting their own businesses. Indians do the same, as well as most other nationalities. So how many minorities come to this nation and make it – doing quite well for themselves in a racist country?


People (not just white) are getting tired of it. They’re tired of the excuses, they’re tired of the crime, they’re tired of their taxes being wasted.

They have endless money for college educations, they have all types of job training programs, they have tons of government assistance programs (not welfare) that can help them get on track. They don’t have to tear their neighborhoods apart, or commit crime after crime… they ignore the opportunities and live the way they do because THEY CHOOSE to.

And, the fucking liberal media does nothing but perpetuate the “plight of the black man.” We heard allllll about the poor people of Katrina. But, I’m betting that most of you heard very little about the woman, who opened her door to a couple evacuees, that was murdered and had her car stolen. The media didn’t make a big deal about the motels that were completely trashed and all the increase in crime in the cities where the evacuees were sent too – crime committed BY the evacuees.

In a nutshell, what Diekan put is there is racism and our country could do better. However, anything we try to do is worthless as long as the current black culture considers middle class blacks Uncle Toms, and glorifies crime and ignorance. It is even worse when the media still perpetuates the race of someone versus the truth.

I was a crisis therapist for Katrina evacuees for the first few weeks after the tragedy in Houston.

My frustration has more to do with people who imagine that they have any idea what a people group on the extreme fringe of society thinks, feels, wants and needs, when they have never really wanted for anything in their life.

It is the arrogance that some of the people on the board bring when they imagine that they have some clue about what is wrong with the group that does these things and that others who try to say, maybe empathy would be helpful (empathy is VERY different than sympathy BTW)..... and they get shot down.

It is a problem deep within the roots of a culture, and the flippant remarks that are made annoy me.

So Diek. What you said is understandable and alot of it is true. But to assume about who these people are, beyond what they DO, is foolish and arrogant unless you truly know their experience, and that doesn't mean walking past whatever "profile" of a person you have and being scared shitless or being really angry....

it is a victim culture and I could tell you some jacked up stories form my weeks at the Astrodome and other shelters. I also believe that helping victims move from where they are has equal parts of empathy and responsibility given to the individual in responsible ways. And I think you make the point that you think that there has been lots of assistance without responsibility..... I certainly saw that.... though I also saw plenty of the other side in the extreme too, responsibility without resources...
