I guess you done incur 20 gold worth of repair costs several nights a week.
My guild and I have been throwing ourselves at Cthun voraciously and it's disgustingly expensive. In my opinion it definitely leads to a similar amount of grinding to get to where you were before you died.
That's not really a good example. you could die 0 times and still end up with a huge repair cost. it's more akin to the gem fund in EQ
it used to cost 8-10k pp per night to raid in Velious, just in peridots alone
add in pearls, coffins etc, and it's not hard to top 12-15k a night, every night just in raiding expenses.
and it's not even so much raiding that I'm talking about. to a certain extent, raiding in EQ and WoW is very similar. it's more the levels where you're first grouping, and learning how to do a dungeon that the lack of death penalty is more noticable.
To bring this thread back to Vanguard, below is a post I made in September. To quantify point 2, Brad recently posted that it would take a level 30 about an hour to run across an entire continent (or something like that).
Menlaan wrote:Vanguard's approach to instancing is 2-fold:
1) There will be no instanced zones. However, for major quest turn-ins, the resulting mob will only be killable by your group. Thus, you won't lose the social aspects of having many people in a zone, but you won't have your final mob ks'd either
2) The world is BIG and travel takes time. Thus one uber guild won't be able to monopolize every major spawn b/c they'll be focusing on the part of the world where they are currently based which will sometimes include where they've built their city.

Agreed. Leveling in WoW certainly did not have that epic feeling of accomplishment that Everquest provided. However, I don't know if I can attribute that feeling (which I will probably never have again) to the fact that Everquest was my first MMO experience, or if it was really that good.

I'm really getting the itch to play WoW on a PVP server. I really have always liked the PVP aspect of MMO's and EQ never really did much with it.
I wished the GM's would have temporarily turned entire zones into PVP when guilds got in a spat, hello LoS versus Sanctuary etc etc. It would have added a more realistic twist to the game and been for great board drama.

Yeah, Ralf, PVP throws a whole new wrinkle into the whole equation. Think about just how crowded, say, Stranglethorn is for people in their 30s. Now, add to the equation random packs of L60s who go around hunting those L30s for kicks. Alliance trying to turn in hunting quests at those dwarves have to wit for alliance L60s to be in the area, or go late late at night, otherwise they are almost invariably going to get ganked by a stealthed undead rogue who was hiding in one of the tents. (I leveled a dwarf warrior up to 44 on a PVP server). That's just 1 example. It only gets more contentious as you get higher up.

I would probably still be playing WoW if the members of this board actually had gotten their shit together and formed a halfway decent guild that wasn't run by a clownshoe.
Man that guild was gay and the name sucked ass too. I told everyone the guild needed a cool name or it wouldn't go anywhere. Names like Weapons of Mass Destruction, JEEEHAWD, Donkey Punchers of Norrath and such would have been the shizznit.

They released some badass screenshots lately to help get people ready for Beta 3 when they're going to let a lot more people in. They're going to be inviting entire guilds at that time which should help too.
