it doesn't hurt your feelings that it is a symbol of a lack of trust or anything like that?
No... it's protection because my fiance's family's money doesn't belong to me so why should I be entitled to any of it if things went sour? It goes both ways.

I would like to think I would have not been upset if my wife asked me to draft one up and she do the same. (seeing as she is a lawyer) Being that we do not have one, nor neither one even thought of it...can't really say for sure.
Garg I don't understand this comment the most:
but he was going to give his inheritance to his brother so I couldn't take it
He does not have it yet, but planning on making sure you don't "get" it? What if you were married and he died...would he have taken out a loan agaist his life insurance to make sure you would not benefit from that as well as his wife? Was this just a stipulation upon divorce...hell what if he died while you were married.
Sorry if I am missing some of the story by not knowing the background history. That comment just struck me as odd.

I will, because women are fickle, lying, cheating-whores.
Fuck you

That confused me as well.

I got a PM just now that made a hell of a lot of sense to me.
don't read too far into that comment, guys..just means he would give his money to his brother in order to keep it out of my reach because, apparantly, he thinks im some kind of irl loot whore..well u know me..i shop at the goodwill and i never even get new shoes or haircuts...i don't want the fucking money..i wanted the trust..and that isn't going to happen
i don't care at this point, though guys...cuz if he and i don't get married, then i am going to marry some biker dude who will work and pay the bills and kick asses of guys who grab my crotch at the bar
Gargamellow wrote:don't read too far into that comment, guys..just means he would give his money to his brother in order to keep it out of my reach because, apparantly, he thinks im some kind of irl loot whore..
Yeah...that's the part that doesn't make sense....
Five years together should have shown him differently. Boot his ass out now and move onto your biker dude.

Gargamellow, slow down and back up. You guys have been together for 5 years. Why does he care if your ass is saggy and your boobs hang to your knees. He obviously loves you for YOU or he wouldn't have stayed this long. You two are TOTALLY different people, yes he stays because he loves you. If you think him asking you to sign a simple peice of paper will change the way he feels about you, then you are wrong. If his money, or the promise of an inheritance makes no difference to you, then why not sign it? It doesn't matter. He can also look into having the inheritance put into a trust, I'm not a lawyer, but I believe that means you can't touch it if you get divorced. Look on the bright side, odds are that they will kick the bucket and he will recieve his inheritance before you guys split up, and then you can spend it before you get divorced!!!!
I can't see this being an issue with him. I mean I know you alot better than him, but it just doesn't seem to me that this is his way. It just doesn't and if it is, honestly, it kinda breaks my heart. Dont take this the wrong way, but it always seems no matter how out there, or how spacey, or just fucking weird and irrational you get, he has always stuck by you. Seems like true love to me.
Vonk hit the nail on the head. It wasn't yours to begin with, so why even fight to get it from him? It shouldn't matter. Sign the damn thing if getting married is what will make you happy.
Oh and as far as the inheritance goes. My granfather crossed the border into Texas 60 years ago, and started a family with his wife he spoke no English. She worked as a janitor at UT (never spoke English, even until the day she died) and he worked at a rock quarry. He designed some kind of macine to make the job easier, and the company patented it for him and he was given a huge prize which he invested wisely, and we were always told that if we went to college, teh grandkids would get 500K the ones who didn't would get 250K. THey had 19 grandkids) When my grandfather died, everything went to my grandmother, who died a few months later. In those few months, my aunt who was the executor and her 6 kids ransacked EVERYTHING of value from my grandparetns. My mother who should have inherited an estimated 2mil in cash and property got an old coin collection and $50,000. I got a pair of slippers my grandfather wore. They are comfy slippers, but not $250,000 comfy. So don't count your chickens before they hatch.

I don't think that I would get a pre-nup. I know that I'd be taking a risk, but that's a risk I'm willing to take with someone that I'm getting married to. After all, the point in a relationship where there is so little trust?
Also, the whole pre-nup thing would be rather useless to me considering where I live. Generally speaking, men still have more rights and power than women do in Asia.
It's not the pre-nup at this point...it's the sense that Virra does think that badly of her that he'd say he'd give the money to his brother to keep her from having it. WTF does that say about how he really feels. I'd feel hurt and betrayed if I was Garg, too.
At this point she's got 4 options:
Sign the pre-nup..swallow the hurt, marry him anyway, and always feel a little mistrust.
Don't sign the pre-nup...have him resent you for 'making' him give away his inheritance, marry him anyway, and always feel a little mistrust.
Refuse to marry him, regardless.
Break up.

I will be 31 on the 17th. I am struggling with the idea of marriage because I have been socialized to believe that women should be married by my age.
I am not exactly a young pup. It is either now or never. Soon, my tits will fall to the floor. My ass will stop being hot. My face will be a purse waiting to happen. I just wish I could shake this feeling that I have missed out in some way by not getting married.
I stay confused. Every day I change my mind.

And you shouldn't. When your tits are hanging to the floor and your ass is no longer hot you may find more men that are attracted to other things about you - deeper things - more meaningful things. I could be all wrong tho ;p
