This is factually inaccurate, and frankly I'm a little surprised that something so wildly incorrect is coming from you since you usually substantiate your arguments. What that chart does is take factual data and twists it beyond recognition. The 16k figure is the number for
all homicides, including firearms. The person who made that is apparently illiterate.
http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/cr ... _final.pdfInformation collected regarding type of weapon showed that firearms were used
in 67.7 percent of the nation’s murders, 41.3 percent of robberies, and 21.2 percent of aggravated assaults
If that report isn't good enough... since that little graphic that's coming from fairy-land wants to cite the FBI and CDC, you have the FBI link above.. here's the CDC link:
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr60/nvsr60_03.pdfCheck out page 37.
67.7% of the nations murders--that's almost 11.5k of 16.8k--committed with a firearm. That's an
overwhelming majority. I have no idea where the "data" about baseball bats comes from.. but baseball bats are intended to use in, you know,
baseball games. Guns are intended to be used in.... anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
...right, shooting things.
And here's another, just in case:
http://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/data-and- ... icide.htmlAs for Spazz, I don't really disagree with anything you said in the paragraph you addressed to me. But we also have to consider why it got the way it is today, and I think where you and I differ is that I think the culture we've created in adoration of our right to bear arms plays a significant role in why violence runs so rampant here. We may not have the highest firearm homicide rate in the world, but that's probably because that title belongs to countries also topping the list in drug trafficking. But I cannot and will not ever be able to fathom why we have 5% of the world's population and something like 50% of the world's guns. That's absurd. I will also never be on board with handguns or any type of automatic. It's just unnecessary. It's necessary for you, perhaps, but it's necessary for you because of the paradoxical chicken and egg scenario. If shitbird assholes didn't have them and use them to do heinous things, you--a responsible person--wouldn't need one to defend yourself.
No one is saying the gun convinces people to do bad things. I'm saying that the gun gives bad people an easy means of accomplishing those things that they would not otherwise have.
I didn't bother checking since this discussion has long since passed the point where facts were relevant. You didn't actually believe I was asking to ban baseball bats?

Problem is the gun will most likely not going to help you against the knife, unless the knife is used to scare you and waved in front of your face. In practice a person with a knife will stab you long before you pull your gun out, take the safety off and fire.

I believe I was called a fucking idiot, I think I should cry now.
I don't give a rats fuck if your throat is slashed by a knife, or your head is bashed in with a baseball bat. Hell, you can go ahead and kill someone with an iron skillet (Tangled). I can care less, people are going to kill other people no matter what. You chose to live in Beirut, not me bitch. So bear the mortherfucking consequence and keep to yourself. Someone with a quicker trigger finger or better aim will off your ass if you pull out the gun you say you always do.
I care about innocents being mowed down by the 10's in less than 5 minutes because either someone with a mental illness has access to his mom's arsenal or joey bag o doughnuts arsenal in the trunk of his car. Or some dude whose testerone level is way too high for him and takes the "If I can't have you, no one will" and decides to off every poor sap coming in contact of his ex girlfriend. They might off their girlfriend or some teacher with a knife or bat and then maybe hang themselves but it's better than 10, 20, 30 or 40 people dieing in minutes.
You want to bear arms motherfucker, grab a pitchfork or sling a machete when you decide to walk to your nearest 7/11 for a cherry big gulp. I'm pretty sure no one will fuck with you.
Can someone show me a video where knife attacker can take out 20 people in 2 minutes?

Spazz, it takes a different level of commitment to get yourself in the range necessary to follow through with a knife attack. These mass shooters are fucking pussies and kill from a distance. This is not possible with a knife. You can walk in to a room and kill every single person in that room in a matter of seconds with semi automatic gun. With a knife, you'd have to overpower and impose your will on every single person in the room or be a seriously trained and committed knife fighter. One on one, a knife is bad news.

That isnt the norm so that isnt the thing we should focus the most on jerk off. Ya want to get all emotional cuz a bunch of kids got killed and it makes it harder to talk of facts. WHy do we need an assault weapon ban right this second when almost no one is killed by them yearly ? You can suck my dick nigga you dont give a shit about violence in america you give a shit about YOU feeling safe. Want my proof ?
u chose to live in Beirut, not me bitch. So bear the mortherfucking consequence and keep to yourself. Someone with a quicker trigger finger or better aim will off your ass if you pull out the gun you say you always do.
Thats right safe white places for safe white people. I dont want to leave my home I want my home to change. I dont think changing gun laws will have the effect im wishing for so I look to what is casuing the violence instead of the violence itself

Yes ganzo you are right it is a good thing that most people here like to wave them around more than they like to attack with them. Other than that I chose a fast gun with no safety for my go to weapon and I practice manipulating it whenever im doing nothing to relieve the boredom. Im not just some guy who picked up a weapon and thinks hes a cowboy its something I work at. A gun can only protect you if you can use it. If it sits in a lockbox or the closet all year every day you might as well not even go for it.

Thats what im saying tossica im not scared of a guy with a knife killing a building full of people im afraid of a guy with a knife getting me and its one of the major reasons why I am such a staunch supporter of the 2nd. Ill be honest an assault weapon ban wouldnt kill me it would just be an inconvenience but a hand gun ban is an absolute no go for me.

I call anyone an idiot that says anything against, less guns = less gun crime because that is a fact. It isn't a question, it is a statement, you can't argue against what is a known fact. If you do, then yes, sorry you're an idiot. That is about the only direct name calling I've done.
As I've said, it is only time, I don't care what you think or what you do around you and your guns today. It makes no difference. I want a safer future, I want a better future, a future without guns. Guns are no longer needed in a mature society. These are things that society leaves behind.
Does your personal safety trump that of a classroom of kids though? You worry about a guy with a gun or knife attacking you, do you not worry about them attacking your kids, wife, family? Does your position superceed the safety of our general populace?
I know what the founding fathers were doing when it comes to the 2nd, it is people like you and the NRA that have twisted and perverted into the justification you use now. How the 2nd is used today I know with near certainty was not what was in their minds. I would go so far to say that the republicans and conservatives back then would have ban guns in a blink if they were alive today to see the carnage and abuse the 2nd has done.
If by some freak chance we're talking in 40 years from now, you'll see the flaws in your position more clearly (since you'll be weaponless), and I'll do my best to not say I told you so :p.
BTW, I know our history better than most in our nation, I know how we came to be, that doen'st matter today, does it really? That is the culture that needs to fade into the sunset, just like the old west did, just like slavery has, just like guns will.
No "good" has ever come out the barrel of gun.
Don't get all hell bent pissy on me when we think a lot alike on several issues. Frankly guns are about the only topic off hand we're polar opposite on.
Wrong time of year to be nasty I suppose, and yeah, that is at me too.

You can't claim something is a fact simply because you said so. You need to show a proof that backs it up - a proof that is verifiable and from a valid source.

Sometimes shit like that happens. Sometimes the end result is worse than an ass whippin and an internet meme. When shit like that happens to you it opens your eyes to the fact that there are real people out there like that outside of games and tv. After it happens you start to think about how you can prevent it from ever happening again.

Did you look at the graph before posting or did you just saw US at the top and jumped on it? How does your graph account for Argentina and many other countries with much higher fatalities than those countries with more guns and lower fatalities? Cyprus has almost twice the number of guns per people and less than half gun related death than Argentina? Doesn't it debunk your theory?
This is beside the point though cause all you are showing is some correlations and you should know that correlation does not mean causality. Show me an actual study that showed how by reducing the gun sales gun crime was reduced than we can talk.

Gun crime numbers fluctuate independently from gun ownership numbers all over the world. Australia is on the low end of Brin's list, however gun crimes went up once guns were banned and much of the population was disarmed. Gun homicides however fluctuated with a mostly downward trend.
On the other hand, the only thing you can claim to be obvious would be less guns = less accidental gun deaths.
Using gun crime as an argument for gun control is not good. Too many different variables on both sides. I think the best place to make the argument on the side of gun control is with accidental deaths. The argument on the side of preserving gun rights lies within the idea that taking away rights when freak occurrences happen is wrong.
As far as gun crimes and the Newtown massacre is concerned, once again, mental health, psych evals, and their RELATION to gun access is what we need to look at. We also need to look at how much emphasis the media puts on this and how much of the news is being reported for factual content vs viewership draw. What the news media needs to do is put focus on the victims, not the killers. Giving the killers more attention in a twisted way validates their attack. Those killers are trying to make a statement, be known, and be remembered. Thanks to the media, mission accomplished.
Looking at only gun control creates an endless argument. I can't stress enough that there are multiple levels of fail that created this terrible tragedy and that guns aren't the only demon here. If you look at James Holmes and Adam Lanza, both were pretty intelligent recluses. They both have time on their hands so making a bomb instead of grabbing a gun isn't too much of a stretch but yes, having access to firearms did eliminate much of the work necessary to plan a mass murder.
Again, I'm fairly undecided on the gun issue, however, I'm all for psych evaluations, waiting periods, the ban on gun shows and civilian types not having access to guns that would wreck shop in an FPS game.

Im really ok with gun shows being closed down. There seem to be a lot of loop holes and it seems to be a go to spot for people that shouldnt have guns to get them.
If I thought a gun ban would work and that everyone would disarm and that if it didnt work the govt would re institute the right to bear arms I would be willing to try it out but I dont think that is how it would work at all and I just dont trust people that much. I think what stops most people from acting very aggressively towards most folks they meet is a healthy fear of getting fucked up the ass by some nigger for the rest of eternity. I also think thats why those scumfucks in westborro are still living if ya want the real truth on that.
Thing about more gun laws no matter what though is that....
Its already illegal to murder someone, carry a gun at school , have a gun if you are crazy , carry a gun with no permit, brandish a fire arm , force entry and prolly a whole bunch of other felonies im missing at the moment so im not sure that more gun control laws is the way to go about solving this problem. I have no idea how many unregistered and untracked weapons are floating around out there but ive got to think that the number is astronomical and that getting THOSE guns out of circulation will take quite some time. I also think that going door to door rounding up weapons in the current climate in the united states of fear of everything and rampant mistrust of the govt might cause one hell of an uproar and might have a slightly higher body count than the most recent school shooting. America is not kind loving socialist europe. America is the land of war and it is our instinct when threatened to go to war with whatever we perceive as the threat. Might want to drastically change that part of our culture before even thinking about going for a gun ban. Maybe your right claker in 50 or 100 years america might have headed that direction and think that is the way to live but right now its an absolute no go.
Thats about as non foaming at the mouth as I can speak on this issue. Since jay is so calm and claker said we need to calm down a bit I thought id try to speak on it a little more civil like and not call anyone any names. Cept mindia and chief seriously fuck those guys.

There's solutions out there better than prohibition.
Prohibition is fucking retarded.
The solutions have already been presented in this thread, but were ignored.
More stringent screening process, better inter-agency communication on drug abuse history, mental illness, etc.
Banning isn't going to work. Period.
