Kizzy wrote:Saw video of her last night. She was smiling and moving her head following the doctor. She is DISABLED. Again, why punish all who are disabled. If her "husband" cared so much about her, then why did he shack up with another woman and have two kids. This to me is adultry, her parents should file for a divorce on their daughters behalf, and take over care of their daughter, and do as they seem fit. IMO, he gave up any say when he moved in with another woman.

Fuck her parents, they're selfish fucks who are treating their daughter like a piece of meat they can keep around to pet, stroke and play with.

She said to several people that she wouldn't want to be kept alive in the state she's in. Her husband has been trying to see that her wishes are carried out, over the selfish objections of her parents, for something like a decade.

Fuck the ignorant religious bigots who think their idea of forcing people to stay alive against their wishes is somehow moral or good or praiseworthy.

Fuck all of them, fuck their idea of what God wants, and get their fucking hands off her still-moving corpse and let her find her rest like SHE wanted. Not her husband, not her parents, not Randall Fucking Terry, but Terry Schiavo.

We owe it to her as a human being to do as she wanted.

Her EEG is *FLAT* It ever shows ANY sign of ANY electrical impulses from anything beyond the brain stem, no matter what stimuli she was subjected to. There's nothing there. That's why the removing the feeding tube doesn't bother me. There's no brain there to react to any of the hunger/thirst related nerve impulses, so there's no sensation of pain.

I would say it boggles me that government would get involved, but with President Shrub at the helm, I'm sorry to say it doesn't surprise me in the least.

That's a load of crap. I just heard from one of her primary physicians on the radio today that she was and still is responding to certain stimuli. That was from her own physician's mouth.

They're called reflexes. In her state she can still look, move, burp, smile, grunt. Her brainstem is still working. So her lungs work, her heart beats, her autonomic reflexes work, etc.

The problem is, however, is that that's all it is. Reflexes. If you tickle her foot, I suspect she'd have a Babinski reflex (toe curl).

You took the statement 'she response to certain stimuli' and assumed she was making conscious responses. As the judge in the case pointed out, that's not the case.

The point is she specifically said she didn't want to be kept alive in the state she's been in for so long. Her brain isn't going to magically regrow, short of God waving his magic pixie wand and making her all better. And since God hasn't supplied the magic pixie wand action, for whatever reason, it's pretty clear he's staying out of it. You of course have no problem second-guessing God...

So caught between the religious idiots who are trying to impose their sense of values on her body, and her own (proven in court yet) clearly expressed wishes to be left to pass on in peace, I take her right to refuse medical care over your desire to keep her alive like some animatronic zombie.

As someone else said - she's a perfect woman for right-wing Christians like Mindia - no functioning brain, but a functional uterus.

Mindia's in love!

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Schiavo/story?id=600937

Memo distributed among Republican Senators, listing talking points and being positively gleeful about the issue, because "the pro-life base will be excited" and "This is a great political issue ... and this is a tough issue for Democrats."

So, not only are they trampling on the Constitution, they are DELIBERATELY taking advantage of the case in order to attempt to gain political advantage. Talk about your cynical opportunism. I didn't think there was much that that party could do that would sicken me further, but they found a way. (disclaimer: No, I know not all Republicans are that way, I have a lot of respect for McCain for example, but the party leadership, people like Bush & DeLay certainly are like that.)

I'm just glad that so far both levels of judicial review that have looked at the case have turned them down. Oh, and Mindia, did you completely fail to comprehend what a FLAT EEG means? Or the other post stating that a CT-Scan had shown that basically all of her higher brain had been replaced by spinal fluid? There's nothing there, NOTHING, beyond base motor reflexes. It was HER wish to not be kept alive like that, anyone else's opinion has ZERO weight.

She has become a victim of a "war" she wanted nothing to do with, and it's sad. :(

Not me, I believe in quality of life, there is no quality of life laying there hooked to machines. I would be Dr Kevorkian (fuck spelling his name, seriously) to any family member, no questions asked.

I'm not Rust, but I thought I would say if Hailey was pronounced brain dead, no recovery, her brain was liquid and in her will (assuming this happens when she is an adult, as it did in this other womans story) said to pull the plug, you betcha I would pull it. It is NOT fair to keep her alive because you love her. She did not want this to happen to her, be kept alive so long when it didnt matter. I would respect her wishes and say goodbye.

But Zanchief, their are so many different Christian sects, who's "God"s seem utterly incompatible with each other. So, even if you're restricting your choice to Christianity, which sect do you pick? National Socialists? Mindia's version? Catholic? Unitarian? Amish? Quaker? Christian Scientist? Branch Dividian? Who's "God" do you pick? It's like Baskin Robbins of Religion.

Anyway, the absolutely reprehensible cynical opportunism by the Republican leadership in all this is what is absolutely most galling for me, I think. I'm not real fond of her parents, either. I wouldn't want my parents fighting to keep me alive if I was a vegetable, and my parents are also Roman Catholic. Not to mention, I know for a fact that THEY wouldn't want to be kept alive like that either. Fortunately, both of them were foresighted enough to get that down on paper, with a living will, but still...
