the one for Obama in Jax was at least that long, and it was so encouraging. I also hate this area, mainly due to the ignorance and rednecks about. Palin being introduced by a sheriff who refers to Obama as Barack Hussein Obama just for jeers, speeches that talk about palling around with terrorists, cries from the crowd to 'kill him' - all in this area. It's repulsive.

To see as many people at the Obama rally as I did almost made me cry, though - a glimmer of hope after all - not everyone here is stupid.

I find it equally as appalling to see people tout Obama like he's the second coming of Jesus or some shit.

You don't get into positions of power from acts of benevolence or the desire to do good, even if you started with those intentions.

I fully believe the adage about power and corruption, and I have little faith in humanity overall as is.

There's a whole slew of people that treat this guy like he's the greatest thing since redheads.

In fact - this nonesense has been going on so long that even Hillary mocked him with it back in Feb... Remember the whole "the sky will break open... light will shine down...." snipe she took at him?

Yeah it's there Gyps... it's not as bad as it was, but it's certianly there.

Even if people are treating him like he's the greatest thing to come along in a long time, what's wrong with that if there's a reason they feel that way? Blindly following is a problem, sure. Lack of substance to justify the support is a problem, sure.. but aligning with his platform, having great respect for what he's done in such a short time, respecting his ability to remain even tempered through relentless and false attacks, feeling that what he brings to the table as a future president is really positive - I don't see anything wrong with that.

I have great respect for the man and am really thrilled about him as a candidate, and it has nothing to do with drinking the kool-aid.

PS, I don't like redheads, so I'd put him above that :p

I wasn't saying you drank the kool-aid. I was simply saying that in response to your implication that I read propaganda for my disdain of people hailing him like he's going to fix the world.

I don't think you were saying that *I* drank the kool-aid, so no worries there - I wasn't trying to make an implication that you were just buying into propaganda, I was really just asking what your personal experience was with those who were following him and hailing him without any justification to do so, because that's how I interpreted what you said - correct me if I read it wrong.

I hear a lot of people saying people are just buying into a bunch of hype and following him like sheep, and while I agree that there are several uneducated people who do that, I think it's equal on both sides, so I don't really see how people are regarding Obama as a messiah type figure anymore than McCain (and especially Palin). I heard a phone conversation the other day where someone who hated McCain 9 months ago because he was too liberal was all the sudden hailing him saying 'he's just been a maverick for so many years, and that's what we need.' If you ask him what his platform is, he doesn't know anything aside from the key words that have been said over and over again to target the tards who don't care about substance. Obviously, it works.

I guess my point is that the blind following happens so frequently on both sides, so I don't understand why Obama is the one taking the heat and snarky remarks about him being a messiah and an elitist and what have you. The only real reason I can think of is because he's different, so the hypocrisy is warranted in some people's eyes. That's really why I asked - I was curious as to what your personal experience with it was and how it was different than any other election.

In the end, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being passionate about a candidate - it's good for people to be motivated and have faith in their cause. As long as you have a reason for your passion aside from 'because the TV said so,' I think it's a really positive thing.
