The 499 comes with 10 movies in store that are up to 30 dollars each.

You are getting around 300 dollars in free movies instantly, plus a free game with the console, and any additional rebates you have. 500-300= 200. Plus the free 5 movies you get via mail in.

Plus, ya know, it's an actual console/computer thing too, and not just a clearance model HD DVD player. Better deal, IMO.

Incredible deals on HD-DVD players on Amazon and at Walmart today.

The price has been fluctuating all day on Amazon but people are getting the HD-A3 for $199, HD-A30 for $259 and the HD-A35 for $359 and all 3 come with 12 free HD-DVDs and free shipping!

BD+ cracked

Post by Tossica »

http://www.audioholics.com/news/editori ... s-hackable

BD+, which was BR's supposedly impenetrable copy protection has been officially cracked. All that arrogant posturing, money for development, title delays and studio exclusivity due to "security" concerns with HD-DVD was for nothing. It didn't last more than a couple of months. Bet there are some heated discussions going on behind closed doors at the BDA.

Oh shit you're right, I only have King Kong on HD DVD though. Blu Ray is much nicer to the ears on a home theater.

PS3 here. A bunch of us have PS3s. Not sure of many here with HD DVD players.

Uh... I love statements like this.

Which movie did you do your side by side test on again?

At 20-30GB per film, that seems like a pretty stupid thing to do when you can get these nice convenient optical media disks with everything on them all ready for not all that much money.

why would it be stupid?

I'm not constrained to your little format crusade, I don't need to buy an extra playback device that may or may not become obsolete in 6 months. I probably get all the content before you do, and I can play it in 5 different locations in my house simultaneously if I desire to do so

seems like a pretty stupid thing to invest xx amount of money in a 1 use, little plastic optical media disk with a limited life time
but hey, feel free to cave into the industry and do it the most expensive way possible tho

Yeah, $19 for a disk and $200 for a player is WAY more expensive than a full HTPC and the terrabytes worth of storage necessary to keep HD content. That along with the hours and hours it takes to P2P the content and manage the media makes it stupid. Your $300 500GB drive shit the bed? Damn! Good thing it was in a $1200 RAID 5 configuration so you don't lose all that data. Oh it wasn't? Ouch...

Not counting my TV, my total HD investment is under $200 for the player and the media that I "own"(yep, it's all legally mine). In fact, if i add in all the "freebies" that I have turned around and sold, I am probably getting paid to enjoy my HD content.

Keep telling yourself how smart you are though.

eh, i've had a big fileserver for a long time before HD DVD and blu ray existed, so it's not like I bought it expressly for that purpose (ie, yet another dumb argument on your part)

downloading is fast here. I can download a dvd faster than you can drive to blockbuster and back

ps, 500gb drives have been 120 bucks or less for many many months now

my total investment to switch for SD to HD has been nothing, since we're not counting tv's!

feel free to continue to think that your way is better tho, since mine cost less, and i get hd dvd, and blu ray without gagging on cock, and swalllowing toshiba's load like you are!

Your argument is dumb.

Quick. You have a new HDTV but no way to play HD movies.

Which is going to be cheaper/easier?

1. Buy a $200 (or even $400 for Blu-Ray) player with 10 free movies, plug in to TV, insert disk and push play.

2. spend $1000+ on a PC and the next 2 weeks figuring out how to download, decode, rip, store, stream and manage your stolen HD media.

hrm
I think option 2 works better

Oh well since I already have my HD-DVD player like you already have your HTPC, having Netflix deliver the films to me is by far the easiest, cheapest and legal way to enjoy HD media. Then all I have to do is check the mail every few days.

Netflix and Blockbuster also nicely deliver Bluray! Which for those of us with PS3s is a nice way to enjoy Hi-Def movies on that monstrous 1080p HDTV!

I watched two identical film clips on two identical HD tv's. One film clip was in BluRay, and the other in HD-DVD. The BluRay seemed to me to be clearer and more crisp. So, what's the deal Tossica? You think BluRay is gonna fade away like the Betamax format, or what? I was pretty impressed with the BluRay's clarity. But I don't want to shell out a few hundred bucks for something that's only gonna be around for a couple years.

Your eyes deceive you or the "clip" you were watching was enhanced artificially to make BR look better. Movies that are created for both formats in most cases use identical encodes. The video and audio content is IDENTICAL in all but a few cases. In fact, the largest "neutral" film house (Warner) creates the HD-DVD version first usually and then just transfers the same exact data to the BR format.

No, I don't think either format are going to fade away completely and the small investment I have made in HD-DVD is worth it to enjoy most of my favorite films in HD right now without waiting to see who "wins". If BR comes out with a full spec (not the half assed, beta bullshit that they have been selling for the last 1.5 yrs) for less than $200, I'd be much more likely to buy one of those as well but considering the cheapest full spec BR player available right now (PS3) is $400, I don't see that happening any time soon.

No sir, that was merely a continuation of our <somewhat> civil format war discourse!

No dig intended.

Not true, I've seen deals for straight Blu-ray players for 299 all over the place. What we'll see is first gen stocks being dumped cheap cheap and nextgen ones coming out.

Why risk an investment of 200+ dollars for a simple player when one can get a PS3 which plays movies, but also offers a Media Center experience, online gaming, and a superb upconvert DVD players for a tad more. With deals one can get a PS3 for about 150 more than the cheapest HD DVD players. A much better investment in my opinion.

Oh, you said 1080P TV as if to imply that BR was the only format capable of 1080P output.
