You can't compare Jill to someone in the service. They are fighting for a cause. The only reason she's there is to make herself famous. She's not trying to do anything because it's right - she's doing it so she can get a promotion and make more money. Simple as that.
The stupidest comment you made is that she's probably more qualified than a spec ops.... please....
I will say a prayer for her only because I'd rather her not get harmed, but she's going to and you know that. She's as good as dead.
And please, stop calling it bravery. It was stupidity. Purely stupidity.

Lots of people die from their own stupidity. Apathy is the easy way out.
God be with you Jill,
and every other lung cancer patient, heart disease victim, or any other person who's death is "their own stupid fault." I aint mad at ya.

Hoping she comes out of this ok.
Sometimes brave, inspired people have to do dangerous things. So she's stupid eh. Too bad she wasnt smart enough to spend her life in a 9-to-5 playing video games and posting on NT all day.

Hypocrit. To ask people to pray indicates you are religious. To wish someone to get hit by a bus simply because they disagree with you isn't part of any religious belief I've ever heard of.
You really have your priorities skewed, are you Mindia?

I think what most people are trying to say is.."Dont poke a sleeping bear with a fucking stick"
She went in knowing the risks, refused escorts. Now she will pay the price. Ill say a prayer that she comes out of this alive but I have 10 in the office pool that says she doesnt. Hopefully it will land on my day.

Did she refuse escorts, or were they simply not available? I have a hard time believing the US army said, "Hey, we'll send troops with you to any shithole in iraq, name the place." There is no way.
It's all good and well to say that she new the risks going in, but don't make shit up to defend your own callous beliefs.
10 in the office pool? You're disgusting. I can't believe you people have the nerve to sit around on the internet and belittle this womans situation.
I bet at least one of those who has belittled this womans death, will have their own be self-inflicted as well. Fat? Smoke? Ever eaten red meat or driven a car?
We all take risks, knowing them going in, however because this womans took more courage than you ever could possibly muster, you must hide behind a defensive wall, mocking her for stupidity.
People like you are the reason the world is such a piece of shit anymore. Congratulations, you win the game.

I really think you are confusing courage for desire for fame - because that is what a reporter in that situation is looking for - to be the next CNN type story where they are in the right place at the right time and the only one there. I think that is the point that is being missed here. And for the love of god don't say she was bringing the news to us, because honestly when was the last time a news organization brough the actual non skewed towards X political party / agenda to the masses.
I feel bad for her and her family as a life is a precious thing - but really calling her a hero or the definition of courage is like calling bill gates a super hero for "stealing" the idea for windows. She saw an opp for money and went for it - her greed and desire to be the top of her field ( nothing wrong with this ) has led to her current situation.
I do agree that belittling her situation tho is wrong imo - tho she did a stupid thing really no one deserves to loose their life at the hands of another human.

She's not a hero. Her acts weren't selfless, but that doesn't make them any less courageous. She had goals, and she put herself in great danger to achieve them. I think that's admirable. Maybe she wanted money or fame or whatever, but it doesn't change the fact that she had the balls to go for it, where most wouldn't.

Is she white?
If so I don't know how courageous it was, knowing full well that the US military in it's entirety would be mounting huge rescue operations to save "captured white girl number 4."
That said, I had the opportunity to take a contracting job over there, and I turned it down. She's got more balls than me.

Wow..... come on people she is a freaking MEDIA TOOL. Their have been 77 reporters total to die in Iraq since march 2003. Why the fuck did they have to die? What makes a woman reporter so much different? Why the fuck do they think we should cry for this one? Just like minrott said, because she is white? I truly do respect her though for accepting what she had to do and going and doing her duty in a war zone. But so did the other 77 people that have already died. I have respect but I have no sympathy since they knew what they where getting themselves into. It's just like when they kidnap a cute little white girl or a cute little black girl. Yeah their are at least a hundred good kidnaps a year. But no one really will feel bad for the ugly kid that was kidnapped. Everyone is thinking about what happened to the cute little girl that got kidnapped. The media will print a large story and follow it up so they can make money and increase ratings.

There is a thin line between courageous and stupidity. I dont know which side of that line she is standing on.

Martrae wrote:Do I care what happens to some 'journalist' that shuns escorts so she could 'get the real story'? Nope. She made her bed..she's now lying in it.
To compare her to our troops is lame. She wasn't fighting for anything except her name in a paper or picture on a TV screen. Considering how badly the military is portrayed by reporters in Iraq you insult our military when you compare the sacrifice the military makes to some stupid reporter.
You say brave, I say incredibly dumb. Even military personnel don't wander the street by themselves and that's because they understand personal safety precautions. I bet she's the type of moron that walks down a dark alley in a big city at night and can't figure out why they were mugged and raped.
Exactly!
Oh no - a journalist was taken and killed.... ohh for shame. Fact is I could care less about any journalist. They do nothing but propagate lies and distortions of the truth to elevate their careers. I'd bet money she was out looking for some poor hapless Iraqi, to get his story, so she tell the world about the terrible job the US is doing.
Oh well another leach gone.

Yeah, I'll bet [they] will make her into a hero (if she's ever found). After all they made Jessica Whatshername into a hero for completely dropping the ball and getting captured.

omg
Sorina, you seem to have been coming to this board for a while now, and that means you are aware of the kinds of threads/posts and attitudes within.
having said that...what did you expect when you posted this? This isn't the "Pray for the dead in Iraq and I'm a raging liberal" board. You can't expect anyone here to automatically know who you mean when you say "Jill" and fuck you for being self-righteous enough not to leave a link or something. (though I've been guilty of the same thing--at least not in the CA forum.)
anyway...not to jump your shit or anything but it was a pretty stupid post. You went about it the wrong way is all. I open this and I'm like, "wtf" and instead of reading about what your actual point was, I have to read everyone's flames for you. such a WOT

i think that would be a Conservative religious nut, rather than a liberal religious nut, the liberals tend to dig gay priests and stuff like that....
I actually checked this thread thinking it was a dude posting ics of the next new hot chick.... boy did I get
