I have been looking into a new box for a while, finally I gave in and picked up a widescreen LCD instead.

Get a larger hard drive

And personally, I'd drop down to the 7600GT

Saves you a LOT for $:Performance ratio

P.S. That will SHIT all over EQ2

My PC now is a three year old dell with 2.0 ghz processor, a 20GB HD and I upgraded to 1 Gig of ram with an ATI 9800 256 meg video card.

I get about 10 FPS (tops) when playing EQII and I can't see half of my gear. That and I always fall through the world because there are whole chunks of the zone missing. It's a joke.

That shouldn't be happening, I ran EQ2 on a 9700pro 256 (granted I have 2gigs of ram)

1.83 ghz processor too

I had it looking nice and at least 30FPS consistent average.

I'm much better off now, but that shouldn't be happening to you.

So what do you think the problem is? Video card driver? I got the new Catalyst 6.1 driver. I have all the settings turned on "extreme performance" too.

I mean, if I don't have to drop the $1300+ I would be happy just sticking with my regular machine.

How do you measure your FPS?

Just a guess. Comparing it to WoW. It's probably even less than that.

Hmm and I just realized I can save $100 by dropping the fancy red case.

A few recommendations. I'd go with AMD over Intel. It's much, much faster.

Stick with the 7900GT.

Consider gettting 2 SATA drives in a Raid 0 configuration. It'll help decently for EQ2.

Finally, if you can afford it, go for 2 Gigs.

You think the performance boost from a raid 0 would help with EQ2? Just seems to be the difference wouldn't really be noticable.

Ever played with Ginz? Half his playtime will be encompassed with

[LOADING....PLEASE WAIT]

For him the extra 35% in loading performance will save hours in the first month alone.

/sigh...he's right.

I lagged out one time in Cobalt Scar grouped with Kyojitsu and he died and blamed it on me.

Remember? "You are a druid, druids are healers, I cannot heal, I just died, therefore it is your fault."

Lyion, we have been friends for a long time. You are wealthy.

Buy me a computer.

Just think, it will only cost $1315 for a lifetime of Ginzlove.

You have a hot girlfriend. If I buy you a new pooter you will spend less time with hot girl, which is infinitely superior to EQ2. Thus, by not buying you a new PC I'm showing my friendship and aiding in your longterm goal of having a sustained superior relationship with said babe. No thanks necessary. What are friends for.

Hey I'm watching that movie tonight. Was it any good?

I'm thinking about lighting some candles and warming up some massage oils to create the proper ambiance.
