besides, sony owns 40% of all movie titles ever made, so whatever sony chooses, especially if they get 14+million PS3's sold as planned will go a long way towards settling the format war

Actually the major movie houses are split right down the middle right now, and Microsoft is pushing for HD-dvd, so odds are they're gonna win. Sony doesn't release nearly as many movies as Fox does either.

Hmm, regarding the older Nintendo games you can access, anyone know if this literally means you can download any Nintendo system game ever made?

Being able to play Chrono Trigger/Earthbound/Mario RPG on a big screen TV while slothing it up on the couch would be a total dealbreaker for me.~

This is the most pathetic sounding console in Nintendo history and I've been a Nintendo fan since the beginning. At least the Virtual Boy offered something different. I already have or have owned all of the classic Nintendo consoles and have played most of those games to death so I really am not impressed by the fact that you can play legacy games on it. The Dreamcast offered the ability to play classic console games including the NES, SNES, Gameboy, Genesis, Neo Geo, Turborgrafix and Playstation 1 via emulator and that was like 8 years ago. The rest of the "features" sound gimmicky like the controllers, on the cheap like the lack of at least 5.1 surround and totally 1/2 commited to the project to avoid huge losses.

The new 3-D controller will revolutionize the console community. The retro aspect for all the old school nintendo games is also something no other company has done (officially). They have the largest selection of launch titles (they'll have more titles at launch then the 360 will have on the shelves even though it's been out for a year). True they're getting into the online game late (Playstation went there first, and XBox has nearly perfected it) but their spin on it will probably leave little to be desired (judging this solely by the DS). The graphics are upto to par, the price point is WAY lower then the other two systems (almost 1/4 of the expected price of the PS3) and a pedigree of games that will certainly blast it to the front of the pack.

True the Gamecube didn't make the splash they would of wanted it to, but if you ask people that have owned all 3 systems for years which one gets the most use THESE days and almost certainly the GameCube gets more play then the other two.

I play my Gamecube more than my other consoles. The Gamecube just has more games with high replay value and multiplayer experience.

The wii will release the best games at a decent price focused on fun.
My guess is two years from now it'll still be getting the lions share of gametime, and the newer Sony and MS consoles will be gathering dust, just like the old ones currently do in my house.

Also, Hollywood does not like Microsoft. IF they back a standard, I'd look for it to get a lot of opposition just for this reason.

It's too early to determine if Bluray or HD DVD will win. The fact the 360 was rushed out without HD DVD hurts it, especially since PS3 will sell a ton of consoles with Bluray support.

I actually play my snes more than anything, but between xbox,gc and ps2. its ps2 hands down.

Im fo sho buying this I got my xbox 360 but im going to give this one a whirl also. I did actually like the gamecube they had massive amounts of fun multiplayer games that you could play over and over and over with friends if you ever had a party and crap or with family etc. Im not sure about the whole controller thing but hey at least they are inovating which is always a + in the video game industry. Since they made the whole motion sensitive thing sony has followed with their controller and so has microsoft.....so this can't be all that bad.

It's worth it for the screen brightness. The screen brightness on the DS sucks. It's like the original GBA versus the GBA SP.

I'm going to buy a DS at some point just for Final Fantasy III. Awesome game.

The Wii won the E3 award for "Best Hardware".

I'm still shocked it beat the PS3 for that award.

I emulated the crap out of my Dreamcast and it's not as easy as you might think. SNES and GENESIS games don't play well unless you play without sound so you lose a lot from the games.
