I'm actually feeling bad that I kind of bad-mouthed the trucking industry. I researched the hell out of it and found that it's a very lucrative career if you're willing to work hard.

But cost of living and such. We have a nice house here for $120ish, and the jobs around here pay enough for us to do so.

Unless we kill my mother inlaw and take her insurance money. Then we can do it. AND buy own our island!

Yea what I wrote there was a little over the top, did ya notice? I did it, not evceryone can, most people wouldn't want to. It takes tenacity, hard frigging never ending work. But I was 38 years old when I started, so I'm going to assume something here. Most of you aren't there yet.

It's good you have a home, that's the first step. As soon as you can afford it, buy something. I shit you not.

Set your goals high, I been as lucky as I've been diligent. But I lived the life of spending every last dime for more than 15 years too. I know both sides. I kid you not, you could buy that villa in 5 years if you play your cards right. I know I can't be the only one here that can make that claim. I didn't mean to sound braggart, but I did I know. This is a serious matter.

Alot of you guys are in your most productive years, 25 to 40. Make your decisions wisely and at 50 you'll see. It's not magic and there's no scam to it, you need to work hard, be the best at what you do and make the most money because you are the best. Invest at least 30% of everything you make. Fast now, feast later. Good luck with that~I do wish you all the best, you can do it~

That's the lie/rumor that Brinstar started. I tried it about 15 times in my whole life, from a period of about 15-17 years ago. Hardly an "addict" by any definition. My biggest vice was smoking cigarettes, but it's been 2 1/2 years since I quit.

I thought about gettin my CDL so I c ould help out at my dads business and haul some smaller coal equipment. Our old driver has already taught me how to drive and Im not too bad, just need a little practice, hell, i thought it would be interesting hehe

The trucking school I looked into is called Western Pacific Truck School. They are rated the #6 trucking school in the nation, and #1 in California. It costs $4,704 total, and most OTR trucking companies pay tuition reimbursement of $125/mo.

I was heavily addicted to meth for about 5 months. That was about 4 years ago. My grades in highschool were awesome as a result. Through the process I thought I was fine, but after quitting I look back and see how fucked up I was.

Five years or so I was driving back and forth from Ohio to North Carolina every two weeks for work. I either went South through South Carolina or Tennessee, and either way I hit a mountain range. The Appallachian or the Smoky Mountains.

Either way I was driving on winding mountain roads with huge trucks going up at real slow speeds, or coming down at fast ones whipping around corners with 100 foot drops. I can't see how anyone could do that for a living, and whatever they are paying those guys is not enough.

The way to go for drivers from what I've heard is to go corporate and get a route. A buddy of mine is a driver for Kraft and has a route from Maryland to Virginia. He drives a round trip shipper 3 nights a week and every Wednesday he does an over nighter. He makes pretty good cash, too, from what I've heard.

My uncle has driven trucks for the last 30 years. He loves it. And in fact if he wasn't so skilled at driving I probably wouldn't be here right now. About 3 years ago we where driving in his pickup truck and a car swirved into our lane on a 1 lane highway. He was able to dodge the car and turn back into our lane before the car behind it hit us dead on.

This law is like a dream come true for college frat boys.

That's called a "dedicated" route, and it does have its advantages. But for a young buck who's willing to work hard, and isn't married and doesn't have kids... an OTR job can yield some big $$$.

Ive been in heavy loaded trucks (im talking machinery 30-40 tons here) going up and dow those mountains numerous times, and prolly worse than what you saw, just old back roads straight up and down, and its kind of intense knowin the jake is whats keeping you from driving off a cliffside to your doom~

Actually right towards the bottom of one of those types of hills the guy drivin the truck lost his brakes one time, that was an interesting experience to say the least. If we woul dhave been at the top of the hill theres no way i would survived that shit.

I s hould get a license to drive the big Triple 7 bed rock trucks~ They are always lookin for more 777 drivers on the strip jobs!

Im glad Presidente Fox saw the light, or maybe he just saw a CIA coup coming. Either way, it was a bad idea to leagalize most of those drugs.

Here's funny story for ya Gaaz. When I was driving longhaul I got a load of hazmat from a Dupont plant in Front Royal, VA. The box was goin to Illinois, problem was that it was loaded on a 53' trailer.

At that time, and maybe still I havent run hazmat for a while, you couldnt run that load through Maryland on anything bigger that a 48' box. So rather than runnin the interstate across MD I was forced to run US 50 across VA and WV. It's about 150 miles of hairpin switchbacks and 9% grades. Normally 150 miles is less that 3 hours as you know, this shit took me all fuckin day.

Anyways, I know what youre talkin bout man. Its can be stimulating work but its always an advernture. Coulda used a jake on that day, but thats not something you find standard on company tractors.

@Min~ Theres alot to be said for dedicated routes. You do get the best hometime that way.
