The problem is my halfway decent system runs like sh** and makes it hard to really test let alone enjoy the game. There are certain mechanics and game play that make it a lot of fun and unique, but the fact that I have to turn clipping down to the point of agro before I see it, makes it hard to get into. If you've got a good system this game brings a lot of what I miss about pre SoL EQ. Quests worth doing. Travel that's more than a click book. A world that's fun to look at and not cut & paste. Instances are fun and groups that are worthwhile vs solo. I will admit there's not a lot of solo content after a certain lv but hey...
As for Sony taking over the distribution...

I don't agree with this. I know people running dual SLI Athlon 4800+ dual core systems that still say the game isn't great....They say even with that kinda hardware the game has major optimization issues.
Here's the thing I just don't fucking understand... WHAT in the hell is so hard about designing a MMOG that looks great and doesn't require IBM's Deep Blue to run?.... Cough up the cash and license the latest Unreal Engine, problem solved.
I mean look at FEAR, Oblivion and a hundred other games...They look sweet and I run em on my shatty Dell.
This might sound extremely weird, but in EQ, lots of new zones work better for me than some old zones. I load them faster
and they're less-choppy. The new zones with trees are the best example. Elddar Forest runs crystal clear, but Burning Woods I still get choppy... makes no sense. I always wondered why EQ ran shittier than any other game I ever played on my PC before. Not to mention it jews up my network connection for everything that isn't EQ. It's like for MMOs they use python scripts and the most un-productive gfx engine that they can find.
sorry somehow last post got fucked... had to edit:
It's because many of the expansion were actually built using an early version of the Unreal Engine I was referring too...or so I have heard. From rumors I have read the original EQ was built on some POS in house shit and to this day has never been redone.
You want to see some oldschool shit...go to Ak'anon... Man the gnome city still looks so freaking oldschool.
If you have ever played any of the Unreal games you'll understand... You can have 50 people on a map fraggin the dogshit out of each other and the game will run fine on an average PC. Anything made with the Unreal engine is amazing in regards to optimization.

I'm hoping that the issue was that MSFT was pushing for a release this Fall, and Sigil said that the game wouldn't be ready by then. And so buying back the rights is simply a way to ensure that they have time to finish the game. We'll see though! What a shock...

I may upgrade my PC, but it plays Oblivion flawlessly and has been doing quite well since I bought it in 2004.
AMD 3800
2 GiG RAM
6800 GT 256 RAM
74 10k WD Raptor
I'm curious how it'd play Vanguard.

The more I think about this, the more I tend to think you guys are right. Vanguard is probably a bad game, with bad development. Any other explanation for this is probably spin.
4 years into development and 9 months into beta and every single beta report I see says it either totally sucks, or mostly sucks. 9 months of beta and core features not in the game, and its like freaking 20 GB, and runs like shit. Sounds like a trainwreck so far to an outsider.

to put it in perspective~
I needed to make 500mb of room to finish installing planetside
I could have just moved my unreal tournament folder(the original UT)
instead, I deleted Vanguard

honestly, don't spend any money upgrading for Vanguard

Never upgrade for a game that's not at least 2-3 months in retail. There's always going to be optimizations, but the biggest thing lacking currently is ram. 1 gig just wont cut it for what they're doing.

Not meant as a dig at all. I've seen Arlos post about having trouble getting a job so was interested as to how keeping current PC gear is affordable. I'm having issues justifying a new vid card on my budget and think I have a pretty decent job =/

The answer is simple. Arlos is into Hemp Speculation.

the thing around here, is we have all these asian exchange students who willing live in the cheapest, shittiest apartments possible so that they can afford to buy brand new honda/toyota/etc and pimp them out

Dunno if you know, but I'm back in College again, working for the degree I didn't get the first time around. Basically, the CS department, since they expect you to do lots of coding homework at home, has an arrangement with Financial Aid where if you need a new computer, you can get approval for additional sums tacked onto your federal student loan beyond what they'd normally give you, as long as you're an upperclassman and have a high enough GPA. I took that money, supplimented it with money I saved from normal student loans (I live in a cheap apartment, and walk to class every day, so I'm not spending anything on gas, even so I ate a LOT of pasta & ramen to get by as cheap as possible), plus some cash I got as Xmas gifts and a couple hundred I got from selling my old system, went to the cheap vendor Lyion recommended, and got it. I most assuredly can't afford anything else computer-wise at this point, and I'm going to pay for it eventually in the form of higher monthly student loan bills.
Only reason I was willing to extend the loans that much, is because I know generally how much I can make when I get out, from when I worked before, and I know I'll be able to afford it.
