My birth mother is my mom's sister. I've grown up knowning her as my Aunt until I was told who she actually is. Finding that out provided me with one less cousin and a new half brother. She won't give me the information about my birth father though. He has a family with one daughter that don't know I exist. When I eventually find him I'll make the effort to not fuck up his family, but I can't resist the chance to meet yet another half sister of mine (makes 5 lol). Other than that I know nothing about him.

How old were you when you found out your aunt was actually your mother?

5 or 6? Not exactly sure. I was living in Reno, Nevada at the time.

Whats your birth certificate say?

My birth certificate only has my brith mom's name on it. From what I understand, the only way for me to find out more information about my birth father is either to go to court or get it from my birth mom.

Maybe she doesn't know who your father really is because she was a gutter tramp and thats what prompted the whole adoption by family members in the first place?

ever since the first day this was posted I've replied with this very post or something like it, and have hesitated and changed my mind every time. thank you for having the balls to say what I didn't.

My brother and I pretty much figured out that she must have been a slut back in the day. According to her, she does know who my birth father is. She's the one that told me he has a family with a daughter. She gave me a picture of him when I was 17, and the resemblence was very strong. Unfortunately, I lost that photo years ago. That's proof enough that she knows who he is.

There are a billion ways to find birth parents all over the internet.

But I would like to add that there could be a reason this is being kept secret. Perhaps she was raped or something and does not wish to disclose that information in an effort to protect you from an ugly truth? Be sure that you will be able to handle whatever comes to you when you beckon blindly.

When I was 17 I asked her about my birth father. Actually, she took me out to lunch and asked me if I had any questions. She briefly told me the story. She definately wasn't raped, and there is no ugly truth to hide. She gave me a picture of him (not a mug shot!). Of course it could easily just be a random photo, but she'd have to have searched long and hard to find a guy that looks THAT much like me. The photo was taken when he was 26 years old, and just like me he looked very young for his age.

Even if there is some ugly truth... I'm ready to handle it. Garg, you know of these ways to find this information?

MArk, I am assuming your father was in the military. You can look it up starting there. It may cost some money, but you can get your DNA tested and they can run a match through a computer system and give you a list of possible fathers.
