Using two excuses and then claiming to have no excuse is a little disingenuous, but that's only by my pinko Liberal standards.

It's funny that you equate a complete lack of understanding of the subject with objectivity. Because you don't have a mental capacity to properly formulate on opinion on the subject, it doesn't make you object, it makes you ignorant. But you do have an opinion, a very strong one. You’re just ashamed to admit it, just like the rest of the right-wingers on this board. Why are you guys so afraid to admit that your allegiance is to the republican party? Democrats on this board aren’t embarrassed?

I wasn't defending what he did by any means....I have 3 kids and pedophiles are high on my list of hated people.
I was merely stating he has stood up and shouldered his responsibility instead of slinking around and blaming it on everything from slavery to global warming. He still turns my stomache, however.

It's disgusting what he did, but he didn't break any laws. This is yet another classic example of the democrats making a mountain out of a mole hill (big surprise).

No laws? Sexual harassment isn't a law any more? If the manager of a Safeway sent creepy IMs to 16 year olds working for him asking about sex and if he made them horny, he'd be up on charges fast enough to make your head spin. Also, can you guarantee that every single page he contacted was over 16 at the time? I got the distinct impression that part of the big deal was that at least some of the contacts were indeed with people who were under-aged.

Arlos, check the legal age of consent for DC.
In order to become a US Senate Page, one must first be nominated by a Senator, generally from his or her State. Senators are granted a chance to nominate a Page based on seniority. Generally, senators who have served the longest are guaranteed Pages, but there are occasions in which less senior senators nominate Pages. A prospective candidate must be a 16 or 17 year-old high school junior (11th grade) with at least a 3.0 GPA.
Add those together and no laws have been broken. (in DC, where this occurred)
I am not defending him Zanchief. I am stating facts. I wouldn't expect you to know what a fact is, so I'll leave you to your devices.(however ignorantly biased they may be)
I have no allegiance to any party, nor politician.

But he didn't.
First he blamed it on alcoholism, then he blamed it on previous sexual abuse he suffered, THEN he claimed there was no excuse.

We won't mention the fact that the age of consent in D.C. is 16...will we?
No law was broken, just partisan politics churning the waters.
It's more than just partisan politics because:
Foley, a six-term congressman, was co-chairman of the Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus
If the 50-something year old guy in charge of the Missing and Exploited Children's Committee tries to coax some teenagers that are
not legal adults into sex, uh - that's pretty significant - even if the age of consent is 16 there. Much moreso that nothing was said or done about it.

Uh, Harrison and Mindia, I again point you to a portion of my post you apparently overlooked:
Sexual harassment isn't a law any more?
What would happen if some manager at Walmart kept asking his 16 year old employees if they'd strip for him or if he made them horny, REGARDLESS of if 16 was the age of consent or not?
Age of consent is irrelevant when it comes to sexual harassment laws. As a Congressperson, he IS a "Superior" to those pages, and as such, it is EXACTLY the same as the Walmart example I gave above, and in my first post.
Also, I would be willing to bet money that there are specific rules and regulations regarding the Congressional page program that prohibit such contact, regardless of relative ages. Those would be specific to that program, and be outside the normal "age of consent" rules.
Not to mention, most of these pages are not FROM DC, they ARE minors, and they may not have reached the Age of Consent in their home states. As such, you don't think parents would be well within their rights to go ballistic?
Oh, and by the way, Mindia, the newspaper that called for Hastert's resignation over the whole thing was the Washington Times. That newspaper is even further right wing than Fox News is. Veeeeery different than the Washington Post. The Washington Times has historically been even more hardcore of a Bush & GOP supporter than just about any other source, including other such right-wing rags as the National Review. So, that's why it was such big news. It wasn't a Democrat call for him to resign, it was a call from a far-far-far Right Wing source.

Ahh...I wasn't paying that much attention to the whole story...it was just another corrupt perverted guy in politics.

Just out of curiousity, I'm 21, would you guys think of me as being a pedaphile if I started seeing a 16 year old? I doubt I would, because maturity ranks high on the attraction scale for me and chances of finding a 16 year old girl mature enough for me is quite low, but you get the point.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with it though. When does age really start being an issue? They always use extremes in these stories you hear about, but what do you guys think of the less extreme cases? What are you personal limits as for what you're comfortable with? 25 for a 17? 19 for a 15? etc.

If you're 21... why the fuck would you even LOOK at a 16 year old? Chicks in the 20's own... the sex is great, the dating is great, everything is great... and you don't have to worry about her having to be home before 10pm.

so add corrupting the morals of a minor on to this? last i looked under 18 was considered a minor in all 50 states. so it looks like a law WAS broken..

Learn before you speak.
the "age of majority" is 18 in all 50 states. You are referring to the age of consent. which happens to be 16 in Wash DC. An adult can still be charged with corruption and coersion of a minor if the "victum" is under 18.

the republicans continue to send a clear message on this scandle
its ok to molest young boys, as long as you dont get a blow job from a consenting female adult while in the white house
