Yah, you don't have to vote on issues you don't wish to, the rest of it is still counted.

For example, I frequently don't bother to vote on, say, the races for the local School District Council or the Maritime Board, say. I don't care anywhere near enough to research that kind of race, and I refuse to vote blindly, so I simply leave those areas blank.

My personal opinion is: if you don't vote then you can't complain about the government.

that's the second sad thing I heard today, the first being that my patient teaches high school students and they watch "channel one" news which, I never had, but apparently is this commercially-done news for kids in high school-
and they had a vote today for the kids. the question was, "should voters be rewarded for voting?"

and this is what they are showing as "news" to high school kids. my patient said she told her students that the privelege of being an American and having the right to vote is your reward. Now I have this faith in her that doesn't really affect me directly but I can't help but thinks she's probably doing the best job she can with her students. made me happy.

There'd be better voter turnout if voting was easier to access. I have to take time off to go vote so I'm guaranteed to lose money if I vote. I like how the voting booth is open pretty much during business hours. Why not do it on a Sunday afternoon where everyone can make it?

It's sad to me there needs to be an incentive. I am just as tolerant as anyone else but sometimes things need to be dealt with head on. I'd rather get a tax break for something else.

Also, no matter who you vote for the person who wins is most likely still a self serving, power hungry jackass. The 2 party system limits our choices. I'd be much more eager to vote if I knew my opinion meant squat to this country. Nowadays, I get put in a position where I have to vote against someone, not for them, which in turn equals me voting for the guy I think has the best chance of beating the guy I oppose not voting for the best man for the job in my opinion.
