Michael Richards?
Moderator: Dictators in Training
Here's the thing about Martin Lawrence and DL Hughley though, they make fun of black people just as much as they make fun of white people, more so actually.
The parallels between this and Mel Gibson are much more applicable. His rant was based on hatred. I'm not sure if he really is a racist, although I'm inclined to think he might be, I think he was just really angry at the hecklers and he just lost it and started attacking them any way he could.
Can the privileged white people please stop talking about how much they're oppressed by black people? It’s more than a little sad IMO.

If I were Michael Richards I wouldn't have made that pathetic apology on Letterman.
The guy said what he said and he's fucked no matter how sincere his apology comes off.
He should of just said, "these guys were heckling me during my routine, it infuriated me so I attacked them on the lowest level I could. I'm not a racist, it has nothing to do with black people, I just wanted to attack these particular guys. If I were doing a show in Alabama and some hillbilly was heckling me, I would call him a redneck and tell him to go fuck his sister".

I agree with that 100%

Doesn't matter
I can talk about white people all day long, and if I make 1 derogatory comment towards some race other than my own, I'd get the racist tag thrown my way
a black dude can call another black dude nigger, and it's an affectionate greeting
white guy says it, and oh my WW3
fuck that
Poor Tikker, the black man is keeping him down by talking about the way he dances.
All minority groups do it, Tikk. You think Canadian comedians don't do it about Americans. Asian comedians don't do it? Jewish comedians don't do it?
They aren't making fun of white people, they're pointing out the differences between cultures, with varying degrees of humour.

Me too. The blacks that walked out made themselves look like fools who got beat down by a comedian. They should have thicker skin than that.

It's too late now, but looking back on it, there was definitely a way that Michael Richards could have owned that guy and his blackness and it would have been funny and acceptable.
I remember Chris Rock talking about Rodney Dangerfield. He said whenever he saw Rodney, Rodney would say tons of racist things but in a funny manner. One example Chris Rock gave was, one day Chris and his entourage were in a green room backstage somewhere and Rodney came in and said, "Hey I didn't know they had an indoor carwash in this place".
The difference between Rodney and Michael Richards was, Rodney was kidding, Michael Richards crossed the line into hateful, tasteless bigotry with that crazy diatribe.

Anyone know what was yelled at Michael Richards before he started his rant? I'm not condoning what he did but he seemed pretty angry. Either way, he's not very good at stand up if he can't take a heckler and pwn him with humorous insults.
Rodney Dangerfield will always be one of my favorite comedians. That was great.

no, I don't necessarily agree with that
He definitely at that point wasn't trying to be funny, just insulting
there's a difference between bustin' chops and being "mean" (for lack of a better term)
And Zanchief, you're still missing my point
sure I have, you're just on such a crusade that you can't get your head out of your ass long enough to see one
I'll spell it out for you again~
A black comedian can tell a joke about black people, it's hilarious
A white comedian can tell that exact same joke, and suddenly he's being racist
shit, Chris Rock even made a movie about that, didn't he?
he got zapped into the body of a white dude or something
I'll spell it out for you again~

Zanchief only pulls his head out of his ass every now and then. The rest of the time it's firmly embedded in his rectum.

A Black comedian makes jokes about how white people are different from Black people.
A Canadian comedian makes jokes about how Americans are different from Canadians.
An Asian comedian makes jokes about how Asian culture is different then American culture.
Jewish comedians make jokes about how stupid and neurotic they are compared to the gentiles.
This is what you fail to realise.
Most of them aren’t funny, but it’s what they do. They joke about what they know. Black comedians don’t go around railing on white people without context, and if they do, they get grilled for it.
Reverse racism might have been something that was going in the in the 90s but there are so many people like you around that it’s just not a factor anymore.
Go to the IMDB page of any black comedian that you think is being racist and I guarantee there are numerous threads about it.

The point I'm making is that while
A white comedian can't make jokes about black people, or how they're different from white people without getting the racist tag these days
ps, there's no such thing as reverse racism. racism != majority slagging a minority
