Final Fantasy 6, Dragon Warrior 3, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 4. That's off the top of my head. 7 is crap.

I really enjoyed FF3 us version on snes. Not sure what # that equilivates too.

What made FF7 so good was the storyline, the music, the movies, the 1000 side quests, the vehicles, the immense world, the feeling of discovery, the combat system, the materia, the character development - I fell in love with the characters, the plot twists, and of course the baddest of all badguys - Sephiroth.

Loves me some SNES. I love Mario games. Super Mario World and Super Mario Kart on SNES occupied hours of my time growing up. Donkey Kong Country was also a fun game, and I remember when my friend brought it over for the first time we were astonished by the awesome graphics.

I also played the shit out of some Street Fighter and a little game called Super Ninja Brothers, which we never managed to beat, but sunk a lot of time into.

Oooh and Super GameBoy! I *LOVED* playing all my GameBoy games on the TV.

I think my favorite thing about the system, though, other than the games, is the controller. It doesn't need 15 buttons, 2 joysticks, and 4 triggers to operate the games. 4 buttons (of which I typically only used 2... Y and B, I think) and one of the NSEW cross buttons for movements.

I think that this is also the reason I adore my DS so much. Similar controls (also I <3 the touch screen), and the new Super Mario Brothers is fantastic. DS would be a close second to the SNES for my vote.

Viva el Nintendo!!

I actually really didn't like FF6 at all, it's pretty much bottom of the heap in the 1-7+9 range (8 and 10 obviously sucked donkey balls and don't really count)

Chrono Trigger was really good

ffVII is probably my favourite of the FF games (altho 9 if I ever finish it will probably supplant it)

I'm not exactly sure what I didn't like about it
I really disliked how the main big group split up, but you end up playing all the different side stories anyway

I liked FF4 better than 6, and 7 better than 4

As I later discovered 2,3,5 I ended up enjoying them more than 6 as well

/shrug

don't get me wrong, FF6 is still a great game, I just didn't like it as much as the other FF games(or the Dragon Warrior games)

ps, Taloon's quest still is one of the most ownage parts of an RPG ;)

Unfortunately PSP wasn't on the list so I had to vote for 2nd place.

SNES was awesome. Final Fantasy 4 + 6 (2 + 3 in US), Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, The original Mario Kart, Street Fighter II (it came out for Genesis too but it sucked hard), Super Metroid, Lufia 2...the list goes on.

The end of 9 sucked hard Tikk. Honestly, don't finish it. Basically they cut the game short so they could continue production on FF10. You get 1 good CGI and the rest of the game licks cock.

Hacked XBox ftw.
I've got XBox, plus a Playstation Emulator + NES + MAME + SNES + everything from Sega up til Dreamcast + N64 + a shitload more. All with one controller and all easy to use.

Fuck PS3 / Wii / Gamecube.

I'm willing to be that someone will port over a decent PS2 emulator for the 360 in a year or two.

Agree 100%.

Don't forget about the first MarioKart though.

Edit: Oops, Jay already mentioned it.

I thought FF7 was really good, but it wasn't that challenging and I think that's why the "die hard" FF fans don't rank that up there as #1. Personally I think 6 is the best, then 4, then 12, then 7. It had it's high points. Materia is an awesome system although I much prefer job class or Espers. Graphics were far beyond it's time, but FF has never been a graphical monster until FF7. I just felt the actual RPG element or the "Fantasy" part of it had kinda been removed. It was too linear. You didn't have to think of where to go next. The answer was always right in front of your face. That's why 4 and 6 and Chrono Trigger will always be better than the rest. Required half a brain to play. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed FF7, I just think it's a really great game as opposed to industry changing like the previous 3 titles I mentioned.

hmm my up-to-date final fantasy hierarchy, from greatest to least:

  • 6 (the best!)
  • 4 (not even NOA's censorship policies could ruin this)
  • 12 (beautiful game, and the combat system is a treat)
  • 9 (love the retro feel, <3 vivi!)
  • 8 (what can i say, i thought it was pretty good)
  • 1 (hard as hell, but great in its time)
  • mystic quest (this got a bad rap imho)
  • 7 (didn't give a shit about any of the characters except red XIII and vincent, plot was lame)

disclaimer: i did not play 2, 3, 5 (have not picked up the recent ports yet), X, X-2 (never owned a ps2), or XI online. one of my current roommates has a ps2 and a copy of 12, and i am still working on it.

PS: if chrono trigger were a FF title it would go between 6 and 4 on this list

PPS: however, super metroid trumps all, it is the greatest video game ever made

yall are nuts, chrono trigger destroys any and all final fantasy games.

Hard to argue. I've been playing through again on the x-box. Sadly I've noticed a few emulation issues.
