He's excited about it. I told him "OMG NT IS FUCKING BROKEN FIXITFIXITFIXT". So now he has a project to work on a couple times a week when if he gets a chance to log on to pass the time.
/sigh this post made me miss him. He's in the field right now being a "bad guy" for a unit about to deploy ..... no phonecalls this week.

Those image verifications are very easy to break, trust me.
Like the ones used on those file hosting networks. Laughable at best

I think you're talking about using them in a different context.
Using them here would prevent bots from automatically registering spam accounts since they can't 'read' the image. We'd still get a few spam accounts but they'd be from actual people manually typing their info in.

No, they can be automated as well is my point.
The image isn't magically hidden.

It probably won't prevent it entirely but it will make it less of a problem.

There's a chance he might log on this weekend when I go up there. He told me to bring the laptop so he could copy movies off it for his little dvd player thingy, he might log on, see whats up and fix things.
