i only liked the first modest mouse album. the one with dramamine on it
i thought the new one was ass-terrible because of the new drummer. jeremiah green or whoever was the old drummer was the cream in the band so i really hated them after he left. ugly casanova was pretty good, too. better than modest mouse
if i had to pick my favorites in rock it'd be radio birdman or iggy & the stooges or cream

back to good music:
4 albums my life would not be complete without:
Propellerheads - Decksanddrumsandrockandroll : Opened my ears to new genres of music. Hip Hop / Classic
Paul Simon - Graceland : He nailed it by travelling to South Africa while he was in a funk.
The Prodigy - Fat of the Land : my first experiment with the genre... traded a Cake CD for it... never regretted it. Still worth listening to all the way through.
DJ Shadow - Entroducing : Chillout music for real. Can't listen to it one song at a time, have to listen all the way through.

I was watching one of my Stevie Ray Vaughn DVDs earlier, and realized again how much I would give to go back in time and see him play

<3 The Delusions, and the rest of the guys off of Built to Spill that had their own bands on the side. Doug Marsh put together something good, but these guys on their own do fantastic jobs as well.
Songs by The Delusions- Scared and Nobody, the rest are good as well, but those two songs are my favorite. Download or youtube them.

There's good music being made these days, but you need to look out of the mainstream to find it. I've posted recently the stuff I've been listening to a lot of late, mostly industrial, Darkwave, etc.
That said, it's hard to find stuff as good as some of the classics. I mean, I spent tonight listening to my old copy of Alice In Chains's "Dirt", which I had just found whree I'd stored it. Thought it was awesome at the time, listening to it again now just reminded me of really how awesome it truly was.

If you dislike Alice In Chains, you are not human.

i think the last time i "rediscovered" an old album it was the first foo fighters disc
i went for like two weeks straight where i literally couldn't listen to anything else
oh also gyps i went and saw Minus the Bear for my birthday last friday, it was stellar ^_^ they played about a half dozen tracks from the upcoming album, which sounded cold (in a good way, which is hard to explain)

Tom Waits seems to have no problem putting out albums that are as good as back when.
