Dunno Vonk, hasn't taken me more than about 45 seconds for a map to load.

I get 21k+ 3dmarks(2001), higher if I don't mind my computer sounding like a hoover. My computer should be more than fine...
9800pro xt
AMD Barton running at 2.8Ghz... that's high.
1 Gig of Geil DDR at 436Mhz
Plenty of disk space... wtf is wrong?

Is your hard drive 5400 rpm or something? My specs:
Athlon 1800
1 Gig SDRAM
7200 rpm 80 GB HDD
Geforce 4 Ti4200

Now that's not high by today standards but it plays pretty much any game smoothly still.

It's a pair of 10k RPM SATA drives from hell... running in RAID0+1(I think... striping, no redundancy).

My connection is fast enough... it's business class DSL (1.5+/-). But... regardless, it's not downloading the map each time is it? It's mainly the onslaught maps that kills me... my screensaver (10 minutes) kicked in one time... the DM and CTF maps came up fairly quick... like, EQ-zoning times.

All that shit should be stored on your hard drive. Maybe you did some small install and it's reading it off the disc each time? I have the DVD version, and no problems...your system should be kicking mines ass but I'm usually one of the first 3-4 people who start the game.

I have the CD version... I really hope that this isn't the problem =/. The game starts up really slowly too... like, even getting into the cutscene where the alien shoots the mini gun all over... that takes a minute at least... from when I double click the UT2004 icon... 1 minute later, dude with gun.

bleh.

Jesus, do you have a virus or something? Is it only this game? I just booted mine up to check how long it takes, took mine 8 seconds for the Nvidia logo to show up. Maybe try and defrag your harddrive, there's no way it should take that long.

Haha... I say that to friends all the time... 'have you defragged in the last year?"

I'm not sure how long it's been... I'll try it =p

It's a bit better after defrag... where have you been? You too Kalec, haven't seen you at all. Ciladan and I were in a LONG game (well, 4 hours is long for me) last night... way fun.

ya i played the demo with ciladan last night, we ended up just driving all the vehicles around trying to get air or ram each other

they should make a spinoff game like the map we played (it's the one where you have to capture power nodes and then blow up the reactor or whatever) but instead of blowing up the enemy reactor core, the object is to score the most points by ramping off shit and running into opponents

i would SO buy it

I played for nearly 6 hours last night. I got on a Dallas server and had a great ping, so I never left. I'll try to look for you guys later tonight.

Can someone tell me wtf kind of key binding or whatever is needed to get those multi-hop turbo jumps that I see people doing? That is a completely unfair advantage in games like CTF...

I've been trying to finish the single player game to unlock the other player models. Yes I'm a geek.
